The $25 is post fees and taxes...

So in under 3 weeks I've gained double what I started with in the Bitcoin market without worrying about dailying/hourly trading. I've only bought and sold 6-7 times. There is for sure money to be had but you'd for sure be dumb to put in money you can't afford to lose. I'd recommend riding out the wave the next year or two while the market is on fire if you have disposable income.

Eh if I was going to gamble I would just get back into fantasy football and 10X my money again like I did the last three years I was playing. At least I had some measure of control over that Tongue

Just liquidated half of an underperforming mutual fund and will be selling the other half in January to split up the tax liability. Our company is opening up the purchase of private stock shares to employees again in January so I'm going to reallocate those funds to company shares to diversify even more. We grew 30% yoy and next year is looking equally as favorable. For riskier/high growth investments I'd prefer to keep my money in something I can have some level of control over Smile

Fair enough. Just wanted to mention it if some people are less risk-averse.

That has to be the oddest pivot in the history of pivots.

If anyone is looking to buy into the crypto market now is a good time. It dropped 45% before rising now 6%. I'm down 39 at the moment. Also shows you how volatile the market is.

The market is going to go up and down like this. Buy in at the lows. I bought when it at 12k and have it all in a few different alts

Solid investment advice. I see no way this could go wrong.

Yeah, don't buy in at the lows right now. Terrible investment advice.

Enron was a good buy too when it was under SEC investigation. Wink

Nobody knows it's going back up. Nobody knows this will exist in a year. People have too much confidence in bitcoin.

It probably will, but it's the least sure bet you can make.

RE: Stock Market Thread - G.Irish - 12-22-2017

The reason bitcoin is going up wildly, is because it is a wildly speculative bubble. No one can articulate what fundamental changes in value are occurring that are driving prices up. It's going up because FOMO has set it on a wide scale and some people have taken leave of their senses (like the people taking out home equity loans to buy bitcoin). And there's probably a large component of global criminal enterprises using it to launder money. This will end the same way all bubbles end.

RE: Stock Market Thread - Apoc - 12-28-2017

I'm just here to say Vanguard's ETF VUG has been good to me... and I'm risk averse.

RE: Stock Market Thread - rherold9 - 01-04-2018

So, after the btc pop my alt coins have been doing very well. I've made 300% in just a little over a month and something like 150% or more in a week. Just cashed them gains out to be safe. I'll be doing this periodically. But, to sum it up, I put in $500 at the start of December. I've made close to $1600 after fees on top of that. Now I'm restarting with that original $500. Hopefully this keeps up for a year or two if not oh well. Them short term gains are nice though.

RE: Stock Market Thread - Apoc - 01-04-2018

I think we're in for a bit of a ride.

RE: Stock Market Thread - ScottyB - 01-05-2018

yeah but you know a guy with that kind of bucks is hiring lawyers of the caliber that will ensure nobody can pin him down for insider trading knowledge. that stuff is so hard to prove.

RE: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 01-05-2018

Read this on LinkedIn today from some EVP of Zenith. Not sure if true but definitely interesting:

"This is how the various Crypto Pyramid Schemes work.

If you've a degree of influence or some credibility:
1)Buy your Coin of choice.
2)Pump it as much as you can. Leverage the power of today's media that loves articles that look fantastical and drive clicks.
3)Make outlandish predictions about it's growth.
4)Recruit others, They hear this & buy in ( so the price goes up)
5)You now have an army of people who will now pump & hype the currency for you and passionately so, after all they have skin in the game.
6)By now you have a good growth history and trajectory.
7)You celebrate those who you recruited earlier to "predict the growth" which now means the world thinks those people somehow objectively can see the future or knew more.
8) People now listen to those "gurus" , and thus their predictions inherently drive growth.

And here's the thing. Since all assets prices are set by trust and confidence, the currency could create its own sustainable value & everyone is exonerated and smug. Or probably 99% of the time the whole thing crashes.

But I promise you this. 99.9999999% of the people promoting these things are people who own this stuff and are pumping it irrationally to create their own wealth. The more outrageous the headline the better. That’s why this is dangerous."
