RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 01-05-2018 I got a vasectomy when my kid was four months old. ![]() RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Steve85 - 01-05-2018 Went in for my consult right after the second son was born and the doc was like "we usually wait a few months to make sure people are sure". I said he makes 2 for me and 4th for my wife. "Scalpel..." Where's Polen with that holiday money? Just got back from the Orthodontics office. You know what really grinds my gears?! - Senor_Taylor - 01-08-2018 Women don't talk to me, so the baby train isn't arriving at the station any time soon. Service manager told me several times the builder would schedule this, the last time mentions they are pretty backed up so it might be a while. We don't hear back from builder after 12 month mark, get into Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday stuff, reach back out and they tell us that we are past the 12 month window and do not get our 12 month walkthrough nor or 12 month "blue tape" nail pop / settlement crack fixing because we were supposed to schedule this ourselves. There's bad customer service and then there's these people. Why would you do that to a customer? Do you want to get blown up on social media / their online review site / BBB? I used to build homes so I get it that it's a pain to come back and service them but it's part of your job and not once did we ever deny a customer a 12 month walkthrough no matter how long it took us to get to them. You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 01-10-2018 Dude come on. You're in sales, you know the answer to this. You planning on buying another house from them next week? No so they couldn't care less. Not to say this isn't bad customer service but you know how it goes. I highly doubt your negative Yelp review on a home builder will hurt their bottom line. Obviously it won't, the real estate industry is on fire here...any builder is going to sell out eventually. This builder sells and builds in a lot of multi-builder communities though (our neighborhood has 5 builders alone) so if a review I leave or a bad BBB hit gets seen by one homeowner and keeps that sale out of their pocket for a little longer or another current homeowner sees it and realizes that they need to call asap to get their services scheduled so they don't have to go through the same thing, I would feel good about it. I guess I also have a different approach to sales. I help sell and deliver a lot of projects that I know may never lead to repeat business, but I still give our clients a phenomenal experience and answer questions in some cases years later. Because it's the right thing to do, but that's also how referrals happen. And I'll also add that I know for sure that the 0s they get on their survey will severely and negatively impact their construction and service bonuses, so there's that You know what really grinds my gears?! - JustinG - 01-10-2018 I've heard of issues like this from our builder from neighbors. But we never experienced any of it. Guess it helps when you know the owner and see him often enough. Could make for some awkward NASA impound situations. "Weird, you're 400 lbs over declared weight. Maybe fix all those nail pops and come back across the scales?" You know what really grinds my gears?! - JustinG - 01-11-2018 It's funny, saw the owner at the track. He asked how things were going, asked if they had broken ground yet, we said no but not like we were in a hurry. "But wasn't your paperwork back earlier this week?". They broke ground that Monday. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Steve85 - 01-11-2018 Yeah, our builder was behind on all inspections and they definitely have something tied to the timeliness of these inspections - he asked us to back date the 6 month inspection report. I'm not sure if we were supposed to get a 12 month, but the house was built a year before we moved in so we kind of got one. He let our lawn go to shit though so a bit grinded on that, and we should have pushed harder for a real fix. (which reminds me - need to post in the homeowners thread) Dec insurance payment fell through the cracks and I didn't notice it until last week of Dec (due the 17th) and immediately sent it through banking bill pay. They got it Jan 4th and applied it to the Jan 17th payment - and left the Dec payment open and left the insurance in "cancellation" status. it took a supervisor to be able to add the BMW while at the dealer... RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Ryan T - 01-12-2018 I know there is a reason for it, but stores that won’t/can’t honor their website deals in store aggravate me. Needed a tool and Advance Auto had one. Their website had a deal for 20% off, so I walked up the hill from my office to Advance, picked the tool off the shelf, went to the register and attempted to get the 20% off, which the clerk told me , rather rudely, was not possible. So I said thanks, walked to the back of the store, bought it on my phone for 20% off, walked back to the front of the store to the same clerk and told him I had an online order to pick up. He picked the same tool I had just brought him up off the counter, snarled, handed it too me and had me sign the paperwork. Why does it have to be such a hassle? You know what really grinds my gears?! - Sully - 01-12-2018 Yea stuff like that is stupid. Also when a website lists things in stock at stores and you go and the employees are so incompetent they can't find it (or so lazy, they don't care enough to look or ask anyone). I've gone to Lowe's looking for weatherstripping (a 14ft long piece for a garage door. Like it's 2in wide by 14ft long and doesn't bend. So it's noticeable) website said 14 in stock. Ask the employee at the doors and windows desk about it not being where the website said it should be (which is a feature I love btw, just helped me today when they had stuff in a weird location) and he walked over and looked with me and said he doesn't think they carry anything that long. Order on website and pickup at that same store 2 days later (because I got busy and didn't feel like going back up there). They had apparently already put it back from up front but sure enough after a wait, they found it again and they did carry it and it was in stock. Also at Sam's club once. Looked all over store for product they were advertising as on sale. Ask several employees and no one knows anything about it. Order online and store pickup following day and they have it ready behind the counter for me. On a shitty employee note, Just recently at Walmart, we tried to buy a Google home for my dad for Christmas, and granted it was late (10pm) which I told my fiance we wouldn't be able to buy one that late because they don't staff the electronics department after a certain time. The Google homes are actually locked up at Walmart vs security tags at Target so we go to electronics and ask an employee pulling pallets around up stock and ask if there was anyone that could unlock the cage for us. He acts like we're bothering him and says he'll ask someone. 10 minutes later, a different employee wanders past so we ask her and she just walks away ( granted I think she has social issues) and came back a few minutes later and said she asked in the back and didn't know if there wasn't anyone or they just didn't care. I understand it's Walmart but shit, do you want my money or not. Bought it at Target a few days later. I am also getting tired of dealing with the brick and mortar stores. Aside from the Amazon Effect, I feel like a lot of the traditional department stores were writing their names out of business anyway. We buy a lot of stuff online but I still haven't gotten to the point of doing most of my clothes shopping online because for like shoes, shirts, jackets and stuff I really just need to try those on in person. I'm pretty picky about fit and materials and I don't feel like shipping stuff back and forth constantly if it doesn't fit or I don't like it. Kohl's was having a sale on Levis so a few nights ago I stopped by to pick up a few new pairs of jeans. I went to the area that had the style I like and it was a hot mess. Other styles were mixed in, they had areas sectioned for each size but not a single pair was matched up with its size section. I spent probably 3 times longer than I needed to in there because I had to search through not only that section but also every other section to find the style, wash and size I wanted. I could also only find two pairs in the size that fit me and neither was the wash I wanted. Now I'll probably just order them online from somewhere else because they people they pay to keep the store organized and stocked are not keeping it organized or stocked properly. You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 01-13-2018 Brick and mortar shit experience here. Go to Ashley's to look at a TV stand we saw online for $398. It's marked over $1000 in the store but of course the sales guy can sell it for $550. Tell him it's $398 online and he gives the song and dance about the website competing with the store but he will match it. Ok great. But I have to drive 45 minutes to their warehouse to pick it up. Baltimore harbor tunnel both ways so $10 in tolls plus gas/time. Free shipping online. Guy won't honor and literally walks away. Granted he was going to lose the sale either way but he didn't even try to save it. And retail wonders why they struggle. No dude, I don't need PC refresh or deployment services. There is nothing in my job title that you scraped from LinkedIn or wherever that indicates I'm a help desk tech. And I get it, you probably just bought a contact dump from Data.com or some other trash service and email blasted everyone you could at my company with a generic email, but it doesn't make it any better when you add in there: "If you aren't the right person, can you please let me know who is responsible for *insert generic corporate outsourcing service here*" When I was in direct sales, my company did have services that benefited other business groups outside of our traditional buyer circles and I did occasionally reach out to those groups to gauge their interest. But I also did research ahead of time so that I at least knew that I was speaking their language and knew that I was roughly in the right arena. I occasionally help sales reps craft these cold call emails now so I think that's why this burns me up a little bit. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 02-06-2018 Scissor jacks. Nail in my tire when I went out this morning. Wonderful start to the day. At least my spare had air in it. Wife calls me from inside to ask why I didn't call AAA...because I am home and can do this in 20 minutes which beats waiting an hour for them to show up. |
