Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - .RJ - 10-05-2011

^ what he said.

And the guys buying hte calendar wont care if the girls came from JMU or not.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Apoc - 10-05-2011

Girls of JMU is a different calendar entirely.

Someone would make an assload of cash on that.

Apoc Wrote:Not really. Like everything, it takes practice. I used to think "Oh, just get some randoms to pose in front of the camera" but I've since realized there is actually skill that goes in to the final product. Go figure.

Not saying amateurs won't work, just that screening them for either a bit of experience or being super comfortable in front of a camera will save you a shitload of time. I did this shoot with a first timer once and she didn't loosen up and actually take a decent picture until hour 4, I think?
That makes sense. So we could still use at least some college girls, just that we have to look for some experience or aptitude so we don't waste everyone's time. I was just thinking that we should try to stick with the theme, and that paying professionals models could eat up a lot of capital. What'd be the ball park rate for some decent models for something like this?

Quote:Regardless, you should still pay them... at least something. Unless they're completely naive and are all like "OMG I'm a gonna be a model!" they are FAR more likely to flake when money isn't involved.
Agreed. Pay them with...Vicky's Secret gift certificates 8) Maybe a good way to promote the calendar is when it's done, have an online voting contest for best picture, and give that girl a grand prize or something. That way the calendar could potentially spread farther by word of mouth.

Some girl I had a class with did that two years ago, and I think it did make an assload of cash.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely not saying "professionals" in the sense they do it for a living. Experience costs money and most models that have done it more than once or twice will have a quoted rated. I've found there's a sweet spot where girls model on the side for some extra cash but haven't gotten to the point where they think they're hot shit and ask for obscene amounts.

I've worked with "very experienced" models that charged $60/hour and I've seen "experience amateur" rates as low as $25/hour. The numbers I gave earlier in the thread assumed 2 hours work for $75. You can easily pay more and you can try to pay less, it's all in the recruiting process.... which is the best part. It's like ordering from a catalog. If you post a paid gig to the pertinent section of modelmayhem.com, you'll have two dozen responses in 24 hours. 8)

If you approached a really hot girl on campus, said you were making a (clothed) car calendar, wanted to know if she had experience and would pay $75 for two hour's time, you'd get quite a bit of interest.

Are we officially off topic yet?

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Mike - 10-05-2011

ok so the amount of effort (collectively) that has already gone into this endeavor that MIGHT net a few hundred bucks with a lot MORE effort would have already gotten an alumni donation package together and raised by my best guess a thousand bucks.

ease up on the boobs, get laid more, and focus.

Sorry, but id prefer our current students find ways to fundraise other than be like "gimme gimme gimme". And I know you probably didnt mean it like that.

Why do they no longer clean basketball games? I remember doing 2 basketball games, and a football game during my stay.

How bout if you guys clean a basketball game, a few alumni will chime in and match the money you get from JMU? (hint hint)

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Goodspeed - 10-05-2011

^What he said. As our alum base grows, we're obviously a cash crop ripe for the pickin', but I don't want us to become the automatic annual bailout package. We'd of course donate as everyone has stated, but lets dip our toes in "real" fundraising first.

Hopefully, if this or something like it is successful, it could be part of a regular fundraising schedule for the club, instead of only when the poo nears the fan.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Mike - 10-05-2011

most clubs receive generous donations from alumni every year. just sayin' it's a good and easy place to get started. putting together a little package every year IS fundraising. shit, as a kid i used to go door to door begging for money for sports and this and that. people gave... same idea except we're already more vested in the well-beoing of this club than a random person a few neighborhoods away was to me.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Apoc - 10-05-2011

Let's be honest, it doesn't seem like anything is gonna happen if left to the students. If people can rally behind an idea, have a good time and make money in the process, why poo poo it? Some of the best times I've had at the track are shooting calendars with RJ... and it really has nothing to do with the boobs. Sure, there's always a faster way to make a buck but it's not always about looking for handouts or the shortest distance between two points.

...and calendars promote the club.

calendar => "hey, I saw your calendar" => more members => more dues

Asking for money doesn't market anything.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - .RJ - 10-05-2011

All good points. And calendars WILL sell at NASA events, for sure.

I will volunteer to help with shooting photos, logistics, and I'm sure Chris could recruit some talent. Students will need to get the ball rolling though - pick the location and a date. Fall is a fantastic time to get out and shoot photos - way better than Summit Point in July.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Mike - 10-05-2011

you've made the incorrect assumption that i don't like the calendar idea. when i see easier and faster (minutes...) means to the same end, i'm going to take that way first.

money can also promote the club.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - .RJ - 10-05-2011

Or, the club could do both.

Not to descend into bickering, but the "ease up on the boobs, get laid more, and focus" kinda gave you away. Tongue

If the only goal is raise as much cash for as little effort as possible, you're absolutely right - alumni is where it's at.

Let's coexist with handouts AND bewbies. Everyone wins!

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Mike - 10-05-2011

i just want someone to ask me for my address.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Apoc - 10-05-2011

No one wants your address.

Maybe tell them you have popsicles in your basement, and they'll get your address?
