It's the total package Wink

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - WRXtranceformed - 08-28-2009

Just got an email from MS, I tried to register for the free windows 7 upgrade and they told me my system didn't qualify even though I thought it did. The email said that their system made a mistake and I do qualify, so I went ahead and registered today Smile

New laptop has been pretty solid so far, I've gotten lots of compliments from prospective clients / clients about it. No problems so far other than a few blue screens of death that happened after a few recent auto updates. They seem to be gone after the last patch. This laptop runs my DJ software a LOT faster than the old one too, but the old one is still holding up well! Thanks John! haha

I noticed two areas of dead pixels on my screen last night. One is about the size of a ballpoint pen head, the other slightly smaller. I got online with Dell support today and they asked me how many spots were dead. When I told them "2" they said we're sorry but we can't cover a replacement screen unless the area is 6 pixels or larger. I of course countered with the fact that the pixels themselves are MUCH MUCH smaller than that on this screen and that the first dead spot alone was probably at least 10 pixels in size. She talked to a manager and they're sending someone out to replace it under warranty in a few days Smile

Moral of the story and the story of my life: If someone tells you no, keep pushing until they tell you yes Wink

moral of the story IMO: you merely finished answering her questions. she asked if they were 6 pixels or larger, you said yes.

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - WRXtranceformed - 11-02-2009

Haha  Fuck it was you dickheads who talked me out of a Mac!

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Evan - 11-02-2009

apples problem rate for the new macbooks has been pretty high, so that wouldnt have saved you anything

John Wrote:I haven't seen a Dell in 5 years that wasn't a steaming pile of shit.

Wink

alls well that ends well, so as long as they fix it I guess its fine!

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - WRXtranceformed - 11-02-2009

Yeah haha, I don't care as long as they take care of it. Just a hassle for me.

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Mike - 11-02-2009

have y'all seen the new latitudes? they used to be able to halfway pass for a decent laptop... they're fucking trash now.

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - WRXtranceformed - 11-03-2009

Dude fixed the screen today, they replaced the entire top portion of the laptop and not just the screen. Which I thought was unnecessary but I was OK with it because I had accidentally scratched up the leather at the bottom portion of it, and this new part replaces that Smile

Just got an email for my free Windows 7 upgrade. Curious to see if it lives up to the hype!

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Mike - 11-11-2009

most issues i've seen happen with the actual upgrade process. if you get past that, you'll likely have a better experience than on vista.

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Maengelito - 11-11-2009

I'm not sure if it deserves its own thread but I feel like it belongs in here somewhat.

Our work is switching over from XP to Vista (yeah, I know...) so I was wondering what the actual issues are with Vista? Don't just say "it sucks" or "buy an Apple" blah blah blah. Whats really wrong with it?

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - NTIman - 11-11-2009

LOL I haven't been able to find much wrong with it myself, I've been using Vista 64-bit with 4 gb of memory for several months now and haven't had the slightest problem with it. *knocks on wood*

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - HAULN-SS - 11-11-2009

Are you sure you want to know what is wrong with Vista?

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Maengelito - 11-11-2009

I'm putting you down in the "it sucks" category

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Apoc - 11-11-2009

I've been on 64-bit Vista with 4gb of RAM for a few weeks now and (after I turned off UAC) I honestly can't figure out what the problem is. I wish I had upgraded a long time ago. I have a Windows 7 image via MSDNAA and I'm thinking about installing it on another partition just to see what it's like... but I can't say I feel the need at this point.

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Evan - 11-11-2009

Ive never had a problem with vista. Its not leaps and bounds better than XP by any means but I wouldnt put it into the sucks category. I had ultimate on a HTPC that I built for $200, and home premium on annes cheap 1.6 ghz laptop, and it ran fine on both (although now annes laptop is starting to slow down and I think ill put on 7).
UAC popups are annoying, but thats easily disabled. If your computer is older and the UI is sluggish, just turn off aero. those 2 changes make it pretty much like XP.

I do run 7 64bit now on all my machines which is awesome and well worth the upgrade.

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - Steve85 - 04-11-2010

Quick question...

I am looking to replace my aging HP pavilion laptop

I am looking at two similar setups from HP the main difference is $498 with AMD Semperon and 650 with Intel Corei3. The 650 one also has slightly more RAM and about 100GB larger hard drive.

Will I notice a performance difference with the 2 processors? Use will be mostly internet, light video and photo editing, etc. The old laptop takes an eternity to process higher resolution videos...

Re: New laptop for work. Need suggestions. - ViPER1313 - 04-11-2010

I would spend the extra dough on the i3 - its a lot more processor than a Semperron.
