That place was INSANE last night. If you saw it on TV, you don't know the half of it. A sea of screaming Red.

I mean, for me, we're at "Better than last year" so I am at least satisfied. If it ends with the Penguins, well that sucks but there's always next year.

HOWEVER, the Caps have more potential than the Pens. When the Caps are on fire, they are *better*. They just have to remember they are playing hockey, not grab-ass. (Like they did in the third period yesterday.)

- Sijray21 - 04-29-2009

that last shot by Fedorov was impressive

great game, but kinda sloppy at times, especially with no shots on Goal in the first period (i think that's right)

- Kaan - 04-29-2009

it was 1 - 1 in the first, someone had to shoot.

- Hunter - 04-29-2009

The caps were out shot 8-2 in the first period, they were very very lucky to get to the first intermission tied 1-1.

Caps we're 3-0-1 against the Pens this year, although I believe most (if not all) of those games were before the Pens got Kunitz and Guerin.

Get ready for ridiculous amounts of media coverage Confusedhock:

The lines aren't up for the series yet, but here's the ECC... FWIW.

Odds to win the 2008/2009 Eastern Conference Championship
Boston Bruins - 6/5
Pittsburgh Penguins - 7/4
Washington Capitals - 5/2
Carolina Hurricanes - 4/1

Sorry, I didn't have access to the last half of Round 1 for unrelated reasons and Round 2 (except maybe Game 7) is already all spoken for.

Mike, I'm not sure when you asked me but I don't think I ever got it.

- DavidL - 05-02-2009

Great win. Apart from some shaky play in the first it seems like we are actually going to come out and play in the beginning of the series!

and +1 on the Varly save. nuts...

Indeed - one of the best saves I've ever seen. Too bad this is probably the only game that was nationally televised - I probably won't be able to see anymore unless I decide to go to a bar somewhere...

- DavidM - 05-02-2009

At least the next 2 are on VS, i believe they are all on VS at least in the local market...i dunno about nationally though.

Just picked up two tickets to tomorrow's game for a decent price. I can't wait to see what playoff hockey is like live Tongue

LET'S GO PENS!

Tangentially related:

Boy the Canes played hard last night, eh? Broke the Bruin's 11 game (I think) streak with a pretty impressive shutout.

Rex, don't you know the people in here don't really like hockey? Keep it about the home team that's winning or GTFO!

You're right, I forgot.

I just saw the highlights of that game, and the sequence of three saves in a row that Cam Ward made (I think in the 3rd) was absolutely ridiculous. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Carolina take that series, as we all know what Ward can do in the playoffs.

Coincidentally enough every team that swept their opponent in the first round split the opening two games at home in the second. It sure does seem like we're in for four great match-ups.

There's not a lot better than turning off your TV in the 3rd period of a game thinking you're going to miss the ending, going out to run some errands, and then coming home to find that the third overtime is about to start. Gotta love playoff hockey.
