- Dave - 07-11-2008 wow, i was hoping to hear more stories of explosions and destruction (its a DSM), but I'm with the rest that you need to do this immediately before dude's drugs run out. - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-11-2008 im working with him now, he is in baltimore so it should be an "easy" exchange, but I wont be back, and I told him this before, till august but he seems to be willing to wait. I am trying to negotiate the momo side brackets for an evo wheel with airbag. Also where did you guys get your autopower roll bars from? Fucking 200 dollars of shipping is insane! And Dave im not there to destroy it, lucky me and the car. lol. I have made a few decisions and some purchases. I sent the engine out, and decided to do a few more things up my sleeve in the engine and get the whole thing blueprinted and balanced and some little things. Cost me a few hundred more but its gonna be a rock solid engine supposedly. Gonna break the engine in on a t25 till my first hpde session once the car is back together. So itll be on the t25 and slow for autox work and a bunch of months cause I dont plan on doing an HPDE till at least next year. (try to break my crackpipe addiction and keep the car together till I get a solid job) or at least thats what I hope. And the next turbo will be small, probably a 16g or small 50 trim and take care of some much needed suspension, roll bar, harnesses, and aero work. Luckily I took care of cooling issues this past year. At the start of the year temps kept going to 210-215 on track, at the november track event (I dont count the february VIR event cause I only got in a few laps) she was rock solid at around 190. Sealing up the radiator and adding ducting and oil cooler really did the work, I suggest doing this to anybody's car before going out on track. Gave me much needed peace of mind although it didnt matter lol. And Justin, I sent you an aim message about a guy that wants to sell his cloth black and blue recaros for only 400, you never responded. - Maengelito - 07-12-2008 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Luckily I took care of cooling issues this past year. My car is na and I'm still running about 215-220 water temps on track. You know this because you watched it for a whole session while riding with me. - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-12-2008 Maengelito Wrote:D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Luckily I took care of cooling issues this past year. From there it starts shutting down some systems and pulls even more timing. Then turns on fans. Oh and I found why all your guys cars dont handle and are slow. I found the perfect solution for you guys..... <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=38">http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_pa ... ucts_id=38</a><!-- m --> - Maengelito - 07-12-2008 dont you have your special edition Brian Spillner laptop to take care of the ECU? - D_Eclipse9916 - 08-11-2008 Update: Picking up the shortblock, head should be coming in today. Been cleaning up the car doing small miscellaneous things to her. STill cant find a good place to buy the autopower roll bar, with shipping its looking close to getting a custom roll bar done so I dunno. Will take pictures of some of the nastiness coming in. Spent a bit more money than I wanted to do for a head budget build but got some insane cams/springs/retainers and doing a 3-angle valve job/port/polish. - D_Eclipse9916 - 08-11-2008 PS- Kaan can I borrow that engine stand from you again? I really appreciated it! - ripstermcd - 10-09-2008 Progress as of 10/8/08: As of last weekend, we completed installing: timing plate both MOMO Seats fuel rail and injectors water pump thermostat We would have gotten the engine timed up too had someone told us that the EVO cam gears were 90 degrees and in which direction they were out of phase....... - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-09-2008 hahha Mike you updating for me? Yeah, on Tuesday I had class only at 8:00-9:15 so I decided to roll up to NOVA to try to get some stuff done. Got the balance shaft on and timing plate with crank sprocket and crank bolt all torqued and lined up. Installed hydraulic timing tensioner and all the pulleys and proceded to try to time her up. Well....I just couldnt get it to line up. And I was really getting frustrated so I called up Slowboy Racing who built my motor (originally calling to ask their thoughts on break-in process) and mentioned the evo cam gears and I was like "Am I being stupid?" and he was like no, the evo cam gears dont line up. They are 90 degrees out of phase, well fuck! No wonder. So now I had to give up on that. Installed thermostat housing and fuel rail and injectors. Got the engine up on the engine hoist and connected random water lines, dipstick, etc. My brackets came in for my seats the day earlier so we proceded to line up and install the seats. BTW SEXY!!! lol. So the interior is finished and all put back together. I think after my first inspection im gonna go get a quick release small steering wheel to help with getting in and out of the vehicle. The momos are basically pro2000s in how they fit. However LEGROOM IS PERFECT!!! I couldnt beleive how in line it was despite giving measurements to create these custom brackets as I didnt want sliders on my seats (makes the seat too tall). A successful day considering we just went up for the day. Its definitely just a weekend away from being all together, small issues. BTW does anyone have a m12x1.25 tap I can borrow? - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-09-2008 Also just as a side note, im looking for an autopower bolt in roll bar for an eclipse or a shop that knows wtf they are doing for road racing roll bars in an eclipse. It looks like the cost difference wont even an issue (autopower bars are 650 shipped) I got a quote from a decent shop for 100 dollars a point and id rather have something that actually adds a lot more to structural rigidity than just a bolt in. Winter break is when im looking to get this bar. - .RJ - 10-09-2008 If you want it done quick and right then call Piper Motorsport. It wont be cheap though. But they do great work. Do you have a degree wheel for your cams? Might be worthwhile to pick one up. - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-09-2008 Another side note.... Just completed buying my rear brake setup. 2-Pot brembo rear calipers with 305mm rotors. Should give me about 5-6% more rear brake bias. With my suspension setup I could use more braking power in the rear as I already moved a lot more to the front using the wilwood 13 inch kit with track pads. - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-09-2008 .RJ Wrote:If you want it done quick and right then call Piper Motorsport. They are stock cams off an evo, SHOULD be no need for a degree wheel. Im just going to try to find some stock 2g cam gears. Adjustable cam gears really arent needed that much unless your fine tuning for an extra 5-10 wheel, and they scare me with bolts that can back out (there are stories and maybe im being paranoid) that they might back out and take out my motor. - kcook - 10-09-2008 did you find another evo brembo for the rear? i didnt know you were going to 2 pots. sexay - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-16-2008 Yeah they are brembo rears. Got a quote from piper as an inquiry. I am looking at 1500 dollars for the roll bar. I bet that thing would be sick as hell but holy god. I was thinking 1000 to 1200 from them for a roll bar. With harnesses im looking at 1800 dollars good lord. - .RJ - 10-16-2008 What did the $1500 include? Labor @ $90-100/hr is expensive. If you bring the car in with the interior removed and reinstall any bits you want yourself you can save them time, and you money. - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-16-2008 1.5x.120 DOM Tubing 1x150.00 Flat Bar steel up to 4"x1/8" -ft 4x4.00 Fabricate Mitsubishi Eclipse roll bar, stripped. (hours may vary pending roll bar design and options chosen) 14x90.00 Misc. Shop supplies 59.95 Total without tax 1485.95 Total with tax $1497.25 - .RJ - 10-16-2008 14 hrs, ouch. Did you bring the car in or do this over email? If you bring the car in you'll get a more accurate estimate for the hours. - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-16-2008 Considering the car isnt running ![]() Yeah I think ill check with the stripped thing and then if its still the same price im gonna shop around to see what other shops do quality work. If not ill show up for an estimate, if its cheaper whoopee if its not, itll be hard to swallow. Its not a completely simple bar, its got plates, diagonal, harness, bars that go to the back, but I wanted them tied into the struts and a bar inbetween those two struts. - .RJ - 10-16-2008 Doesnt your car have dubble wishbones at both ends and not struts? If it doesnt have struts then there is probably a better place to locate the rear rollbar tubes for chassis stiffness. Putting them on top of the shock towers may not be the best location - frame rails, rocker panels and suspension mounting areas will be better for that. $.02 I dont know who else does rollerbar work in the area - I know a guy in roanoke though. |
