if you can get her down to school, I probably wont have my car as parts arent in so ill probably be itching to work on something, let me know

- HAULN-SS - 07-31-2008

i don't shift sticks, I change gears.

- ViPER1313 - 07-31-2008

You can just take it to school for a month if you want DJ.

- D_Eclipse9916 - 07-31-2008

Alright I hope to god whoever did the timing belt last didnt use an impact to get the crank sprocket bolt tight. Otherwise I may have to find an air impact which ive been wanting to buy for a while.

so it sounds like you had fun in China

- ViPER1313 - 07-31-2008

I have a higher grade 110v electric impact & an impact socket set you can borrow. It does 250lb-ft IIRC and has taken off pretty much everything I have ever thrown at it.

Oh lord. He's drunk again.

- ViPER1313 - 07-31-2008

I don't think I've ever met a worse Internet drunk than DJ.

Goddamnit, its just too easy with a laptop. And China has waaaayyyy tooo good of clubs and cheap alchohol. Plus the people on this trip arent hard drinkers so they all end up literally passing out before I do. I wish the girls here were more socially mature than 12 year olds.

*end rant* lol PS- Adam sorry for shitting up your thread.

Sounds like a dreamland paradise for RJ!

Wait, you said *socially* mature. Nevermind.

Back from the dead.

Over the past year or so I really haven't done much to this car. I

-had the ECU re-capped to fix a starting issue
-replaced the PCV valve to prevent the dipstick from blowing out
-re-grounded the motor to make myself feel like I did something useful.
-tried to tint the windows, failed miserably and ripped it off 2 days later. Note to anyone who thinks about doing this - spend the $150 to $250 and let someone else do it.
-Replaced the original rubber brake lines with new rubber ones (I'm not a fan of the braided lines, I have heard too many horror stories.)

On the performance / ricer front, I:

-Installed a Prosport 150psi electronic oil pressure gauge
-Put on a Apexi N1 catlessdownpipe / 3in catback exhaust.

Before the car fell flat over 6000rpm, boost trailed off to 10 or 11 PSI on the high end (from 12 or 13psi). Now the boost holds steady at 14PSI and creeps to 16psi between 6500 and 7000rpm. The butt dyno says I gained a decent amount of power. It's also loud as hell, shows how much oil the car really burns and makes me feel like a ricer. I'm so proud of it.

I'm running a cheap set of summer tires on Talon swirlies painted black - couldn't beat the price. I also redid DJ's stereo install (there is no reason to have 2 solder joints for each wire). The exhaust manifold still has red bull cans for a heat shield.

I personally hate the muffler but its all personal preference. 2 solder joints? I even soldered that? That was supposed to only be in there for like 3 weeks

Quoted for epic fail.

You failed first when your glorious install blew the fuse to all my dash lights, rear tail lights and front ambers constantly because you didn't tape the dimmer wire. At all. Cutting wires and just leaving them exposed = great idea :dunno:

Re: Project 1990 Eagle Talon TSI - ViPER1313 - 02-05-2011

Time for an update, I've been super lazy with all my projects over the holidays.

I decided to finally get off my ass and fix the boost creep that the down pipe introduced, replace the radiator hoses and oil leaks all around the turbo, and fix the 2 broken manifold studs from the jerkoff previous owner. Current state of the car:

HKS 40mm racegate going on, along with the aforementioned maintenance. Also of note: I absolutely hate removing broken studs. The count was 4 broken drill bits, one melted drill bit (extracting a broken stud from the O2 housing to the turbo) and a broken stud extractor that I then had to drill around, but I now have 9 functional exhaust studs...

yeah, i hate exhaust work in general for this reason. good work, i'd have likely given up after the first few drill bits.

Re: Project 1990 Eagle Talon TSI - ViPER1313 - 02-21-2011

All back together, running well. I had to re-do my oil return line from the turbo to the oil pan because it was leaking like crazy after my first attempt. A little more care, another new set of gaskets and a liberal coating of RTV seem to have fixed that issue. The wastegate holds 11psi on spring + manifold pressure without any creep, and with the boost controller re-installed it's holding 14psi rock solid.

Ghetto mod: I removed 5 feet of vacuum lines for the EGR system and capped them at the throttle body. I was too impatient to wait for an EGR blockoff plate to arrive, so I made my own out of 2 pieces of mountain dew can. Seems to work fine. I'll replace it with an actual plate when it comes in.

Next up: I need to make sure that all the wires for my fuel injectors are OK - I think one of them is arcing behind its cover (there is some tick coming from the rear of motor towards the intake and it's not the plug wires.) I wiggled the wire to the number 3 injector and was greeted by a 3-cylinder idle.

Re: Project 1990 Eagle Talon TSI - ViPER1313 - 02-26-2011

Top tip to all DSM owners - make sure that your fuel injector wiring plugs are not completely corroded. I have no idea how the car was running with the plugs as corroded as they were. 1 of the plugs was already broken and another broke during dis assembly - 4 new 2G style plugs are coming in the mail. Now 2 broken ones are being held together by zip ties until the new ones arrive.
