are you really trying to say acid rain is a good thing?

- HAULN-SS - 10-02-2007

is acid rain hurting you?

- Ginger - 10-02-2007

You should stick to math and coding...

Just reading your posts makes me feel stupid... I really need to stop.

Maybe Kuwait does?

I dont think we (collective) are 'causing' any global warming, but at the same time I dont think pumping a bunch of hydrocarbons and NOx into the atmosphere is at all a good thing. Yes my truck that gets 14mpg and I ride a bike with no cat converter (as delivered from the factory... ). Maybe it wont affect us in our lifetimes but thats no reason to say "aw, fuckit, take all the cats off".
I agree 100%
my arguments are based against the alarmism that drives political agendas which serves personal interests and harm the global economy such as the Kyoto treaty. I do think that the alternative fuels and oil independence are a great thing.
$50 billion has been spent on proving global warming, annually as much as we spend on cancer research and AIDS research. I think thats pretty fucked up.

How much on the war or on missions to space?

I think we can all argue a gross misallocation of funds.

Mike Wrote:i'm not sure how you can say what i posted above does not = data. core ice samples show a direct correlation between carbon in the air and temperature. where's the computer model?
a perfect example of correllation != causation.

the ice core data is actually one of the number 1 debunking arguments against the "carbon causes global warming"
The temperature actually leads the carbon concentration, ie the temperature goes up THEN the c02 goes up, not the other way around. Typically let by 200-300 years. This is due to (oversimplified) that the oceans store c02, and release it into the atmosphere more at higher temperatures. Since the oceans are so huge, it takes several hundred years for the oceans to warm up.

one more thing id like to clarify, the planet is in fact warming, there really isnt a debate there.
the proper name for the debate is "man made global warming"
but we have been conditioned by the media and pop culture that any global warming is a bad thing. to quote Richard Lindzen MIT climatologist "If the climate werent changing then we would have something to worry about"

the question/debate is over whether it is natural/what is causing it/how much are we causing it, and what the effects are.

given that it has been much warmer in our planets recent history (mideival warming period for example) and the polar bears didnt die and we arent even in the warmest period right now of the last century (1930s were warmer) I think that its pretty clear that the current frenzy is at best, largely unsubstantiated alarmism.

Evan Wrote:I think

bingo! Tongue i really don't know... i'm just playing the "better safe than sorry" card. i think trying to convince each other is rather futile so i'm not going to bother... we're really just going to have to wait it out.

spending uber money on this all is silly, but so is our foreign policy and the money we burn due to it. i agree, let's spend money on shit that matters for us, right now. healthcare, the homeless, fucking over people who start frivolous lawsuits, and building safer helicopters.

- Evan - 10-02-2007

out of context FTW! Wink

i agree with conservation 100%, but unfortunately the issue and what it has been made into has far greater implications than just using less toilet paper.

Not an option. I poop a lot.

just don't put sand or gravel down on your driveways in the winter!!

Confusedmack:

if i go out in the sun one day without sunscreen, i won't get cancer that very day. but if i keep doing it...

stand out in the rain for 10 years, tell me how it goes. or just look at anything rain touches. living in atlanta, i see it all the time.

as someone who seems to enjoy out door activities (fishing at least) i'm pretty surprised you'd say this. or maybe i'm not....either way, pretty bad.

- HAULN-SS - 10-02-2007

I'm just saying that I don't think there's any problem man can create that 'the world' can't fix. 50 or 100 years after carbon based energy is gone, we'll probably never know it was here.

Does anybody else find it a little ironic that the Environmental Scientist hasn't participated? Wink
