Well, I provided Austin, my Special Techie, with the case information he asked for this morning, and I just heard back from him. A prepaid return box & label will arrive at my house with "1 to 2 business days." I guess this is as good a time as any to try out Ghost. It's a shame that the product has such a glaring weakness; it's a good machine, in it's own right. It's problems seem to hinge (pardon the pun) around it's selling point: the display. Without the custom buttons around the side I could use a regular NVidia display driver. If the display were higher qualify, I could probably get a good image from it at more than a discrete angle range. And if they had thought through the hinge design a little better, I wouldn't be sending it back to them now.

I think you should just be happy they are paying for that box and shipping. gateway didn't, and on average it cost me 2 hours of my life yelling at them on the phone to pay for it, or 35$

I imagine they got yelled at a lot over shipping on warranty issues. I don't feel like I should be happy, though. I'm ticked - I gave them a thousand bucks and they can't deliver a product that'll last more than 4 months? That blows.

So I need a new desktop. The desktop I got when I started college is toast. What is the best plan of attack? I moved all important files over to my 700m. Would an external harddrive work? I also am only able to boot my desktop in safemode. The thing sucks.

Macs are better than PC's and more expensive. There is a reason that for the last 20 odd years Microshite has been developing stuff to look like Apple OS.
Unfortunately the sheep of the world want biege boxes not semi smart technology.
Next machine we buy is Mac.

Why would an external hard drive not work? And for what?

note: you could easily turn around and sell that 22" monitor for $220 on ebay. that'd make it a silly cheap and really fast machine for $380.

Well, back to warranty info... to be fair... my laptop has has *a* problem as well. I had some dead pixels... no one noticed but me. They were SO minor, but hey, what the hell... try out this famed Apple warranty. I brought it to Apple on a Friday afternoon and they said that they'd fix it for gratis, AND that they'd replace my battery because the charge looked low. Ok, how long will it be gone for? 5-10 bus days. Eek. I'll deal. Too bad I got a call the next morning saying my laptop is ready. New screen. New battery. Thanks Apple! No complaints.
Oh. Ps. My iPhone is hotter than Evan's mom in heat (check).

iPhone has wifi.
but trust me, a high speed 3G data connection is eleventy billion times more betterer. I never have to turn on my wifi and I get DSL type speeds everywhere.
of course the iphone doesnt have that, but its revolutionary and all
