- Apoc - 07-14-2007 More than once? Before school was out for the year? Leesburg to 28 is easily 35 minutes and both Route 9 and 7 get pretty backed up under normal conditions. I think you're looking at 1:15 under decent conditions, not at peak flow. - HAULN-SS - 07-14-2007 Yes - i stayed iwth a friend at a hotel in leesburg and did it a couple times - right at rush hour - 7:30am - Apoc - 07-14-2007 Well if you can get to work from Bunker Hill in 1:15 3 days of a week I'll buy you a lap dance at Vixens... which you'll live like 5 minutes from. - HAULN-SS - 07-14-2007 deal. I'll keep track. The worst it's taken me in the 4 times i've driven it so far is 1:20, and that was the day I left herndon at like 5:30. - Apoc - 07-14-2007 The kids are on summer holiday. My commute went up by 50% after summer vaca was over come September when I lived in Leesburg (20 to 30 min). I hope you move in before Labor Day if you want that dance. - HAULN-SS - 07-14-2007 son of a bitch ya'll. I know about the drive. I wouldnt have dropped 200 large on a house and not known about the drive. - Feersty - 07-15-2007 Nice looking house man. Are you gonna do 4 10 hour days or something? - .RJ - 07-15-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:son of a bitch ya'll. I know about the drive You didnt grow up in this area, so I really dont think you do know.... If you can work from home a lot, or shift your hours so that you're in/out of the office really early it can work. There were days that it took my old coworker over 2 hours to get in if they left a little late and it was raining, or there was an accident along teh way - and he was closer than you will be. - Mike - 07-15-2007 oh yeah, i easily see some 3 hour commute times happening... that's get old REEEAL fast. - HAULN-SS - 07-15-2007 Well, that's all well and good, and if that happens once in a while, who gives a shit. I think you guys don't see that I'm ok with it. As I've already said, I CAN, and will move my hours around so that traffic will be minimal. - Mike - 07-15-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:Well, that's all well and good, and if that happens once in a while, who gives a shit. As I've already said, I CAN, and will move my hours around so that traffic will be minimal. i've seen a handful of coworkers think they'd be ok with it... they usually end up quitting. - HAULN-SS - 07-15-2007 well, they were probably weak and insignificant. - ScottyB - 07-15-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:well, they were probably weak and insignificant. LOL...that sounds like a line from some kind of world domination monologue - .RJ - 07-15-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:well, they were probably weak and insignificant. Or they value their sanity and free time? Just a thought. I'll be suprised if you can make it work, and if your hours are flexible enough that you can either come in very early, or very late every day. - HAULN-SS - 07-15-2007 I have an abundance of free time. I already said my hours are very flexible. I will probably work 6:30 - 3:30. I could do earlier if I wanted, or later, or whatever. What's it to you guys anyway? Are you on some kind of personal crusade to rain on my parade? It will work, I'll make sure of it. I'm not asking any of you fucks to live there, am I? - Ginger - 07-15-2007 The other thing, which I have come to realize since becoming an "adult" is that my free time is HUGELY valuable. I would be highly agitated if all my weekday time was used commuting. Wake up early, drive to work, work, drive home, eat dinner, sleep. Wash, rinse, repeat. I very much like being able to do things for 6 hours after work before considering bed... I don't think I'd trade that for anything. - .RJ - 07-15-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:What's it to you guys anyway? Just dont want you making the same mistake i've seen others make - to be honest I dont know anyone thats been able to make that commute work, but I've been wrong before. - Ginger - 07-15-2007 We're really saying this because we think it's good advice that one should take to heart... you know, we're saying it to help you. - .RJ - 07-15-2007 Its a nurturing hate - HAULN-SS - 07-15-2007 The house is under contract. If/any consequences, I'll deal with. I saw a good deal, and jumped on it. I stand to come out pretty good in the end, and for the next 2 - 3 years, I'll put up with a lot. When else am I going to do something like that? When I'm married and have 2 kids? Not likely. The time is now, so to speak. People don't get ahead waiting on stuff to fall in their lap. Also - I dont see what the big deal is - getting home ~4:30, and staying up til 10:30 is plenty of free time in the evenings. There's your six hours Andrew. |
