Profiltability and worker rights aren't mutually exclusive

Right? Companies doing awesome don't generally slash benefits the way wal-mart did either?

Last I heard the Walton family were billionaires. I don't think they're too concerned about going "belly up" nor would they be concerned about a bunch of undereducated rednecks who want to get together and call themselves a union. As long as they have cheap labor and negotiate cheap prices for their procucts, that company will always be in the positive.

Copied from a statement by the World Bank, the globial financial authority.

"Unions and Collective Bargaining: Economic Effects in a Global Environment," a study of more than 1,000 unions found that 'high unionization rates can lead to lower unemployment and inflation rates, higher productivity and faster adjustment to economic shocks.' This amongst many other studies have shown, regardless of public opinion, that unions have made the economy more able to respond to crisis, been more productive and given better pay and benefits to the worker than non-union industries.

Can we translate this to, "Higher Pay to unskilled workers?" me thinks so.
