If you still have your own domain you can have it resolve to your smugmug account (if you want).

IIRC yes. The lighting was pretty harsh then unfortunately.

I got the standard account which doesnt include that I dont think.

- Apoc - 07-31-2007

Ah okay... the nice thing about the pro is you can sell digital downloads for whatever price you set.

If you told me you were getting smugmug I coulda saved you $5.

You guys pay for an image gallery?

- Apoc - 07-31-2007

white_2kgt Wrote:You guys pay for an image gallery?

No... I pay for the ability to sell prints/downloads, have unlimited backup storage and use my own domain without having to maintain any of the code on the pages.

FWIW, I maintain a (free) site for my personal photos.

Gallery2 will give you the ability to sell prints/downloads. Install that on your 'personal' site, install script is stupid easy and you don't have to maintain much of anything, and it's free.

Does it print, mail and accept credit cards too?

I just use Dreamweaver/Fireworks photo album tool for my own stuff.

- white_2kgt - 07-31-2007

Apoc Wrote:Does it print, mail and accept credit cards too?

Yes. using either Shutterfly, PhotoWorks and/or Fotokasten.

- Evan - 07-31-2007

white_2kgt Wrote:You guys pay for an image gallery?
yup, and its cheaper than webhosting. And since I dont have the time to maintain a pointless 'blog' personal website it makes a lot more sense to just pay for an image gallery rather than a webhost and have do all the configuration myself.
And if picasa web albums didnt compress your photos to the point they look like complete ass, I wouldnt even have to pay for a gallery

With gallery2 and windows XP you can have it upload all your image files directly to your gallery from within windows, no need to get visit your website, then in each gallery you can apply whatever 'template'/style you want.

That's if you want to print/buy them. If you just want to view them the pics will appear right on the screen. Don't see the difference, you either have an account at shutterfly or smugmug, the latter of which you pay for, but whatever, you are happy with it, good for you.

Well who doesn't want pictures of their wedding? Contrary to your belief, everything you do is not the best way for everyone else. If I was just making a website of my kid or wanted to give family the ability to purchase my photos.... sure, your suggestion is great... and it works like a charm for my tech stupid sister. When people are paying you to take pictures for them they expect a certain standard and Shutterfly is not it.

I maintain a personal photo site on my own domain, I maintain a portfolio in smugmug, I use free Flickr for exposure and I pay (OMG!) for a modeling/photographer networking site to get more work. I'm sure I'm just wasting money though, right?

- Maengelito - 07-31-2007

yeah, VIR north sure was fun!

- Apoc - 07-31-2007

No it wasn't, GTFO!

Hu? So you are a professional photographer now? Like I said above, if it works for you, great. However, I'd expect a true professional to have their own site. I just enabled the PhotoWorks plugin in my gallery2, added a few pictures to the shopping cart, then checked out with photoworks, just to test quality, easy, painless and all I paid for was the website I already have and the prints I decided I wanted to print.
