Haha. I called a realtor, who referred me to a pre-qualifier mortgage lady. We'll see how that goes. If I can't get anywhere close to the amounts we talked about, i'll resign myself to rent for a bit, and say I gave it the 'ol college try!

Any time Derek 8) Let me know how your tour of NoVA homes goes =)

Don't forget, you could get in on one of the first TH's I'm selling out in Winchester for a sick price....as long as your company would overlook a few miles outside of their radius =P

- HAULN-SS - 11-09-2006

Yeah, i'll keep that in mind. When're they going to be available again?

- .RJ - 11-09-2006

Winchester to reston commute, you are looking at 1.5 hrs each way, maybe a little less if you use the toll road ($4.50 each way). If it rains... well good luck with that. Just an FYI - consider the commute time and cost if you are going to live out in the sticks.

- Apoc - 11-09-2006

Ryan and I usually disagree about commute times from out west but that one's probably pretty close, if not an underestimate. The section between Leesburg and Route 9 and the section between the Greenway toll plaza and Reston get pretty horrific if you're not through them by 8am.

What I'm not quite sure is how he managed to get $4.50 out of $3.20. Tongue Still expensive, yes, but about 30% cheaper than stated.

- .RJ - 11-09-2006

I thought it was $3.85, plus another $0.50 to get off the toll road in reston - I just rounded up Smile

Either way, $8-9/day adds up... $160-180/month just on tolls.

Edit: I have coworkers that commute from WV and Winchester... we give them endless shit for wasting their lives and money away sitting in a little box in a parking lot.

- Apoc - 11-09-2006

It doesn't charge the 50¢ when you're exiting eastbound.

exit west or enter east for tolls

You suck at t3h tollage!

- .RJ - 11-09-2006

If you're going east you still get hit with a .50 toll, but going west you dont, so thats one less one to pay... you're right on that one.

- WRXtranceformed - 11-09-2006

I was commuting an hour and 15 minutes each way for a while, now it's around 50 minutes. It's not the end of the world Wink

In the overall scheme of things, Winchester really isn't that far from the Toll Road. It's only about 30-35 minutes to the start of it, all on route 7 which only really gets backed up at route 9; if you left by 7-7:15am you'd be fine to make it to work...assuming your work started at 9.

Sales are open as of now, delivery won't be until the first quarter of next year though as we're only taking lot holds on the first homesites until our state documents are approved. After those come in we're gonna start rolling!

The townhomes similar to the ones I'm selling (the Carnegie, which I used to build) off of Evergreen Mills Road outside of Leesburg at Courtland Farms are available sooner, but they're slightly more expensive and have a 2 car garage.

- Apoc - 11-09-2006

no, basically if you're coming from or trying to go east of your exit than you pay.

ugh... i give up. just look here for the toll booths...

And purcellville is 25 min closer in than winchester, right?

What are these homes in winchester going for? Just curious... I dont want to live out there

Think about what you just said there. Leave at 7 and you'll make it fine by 9.

I moved to Ashburn 'cause Leesburg to Dulles was too far... hell yeah Winchester to Reston is the end of the world.

When I say I was commuting that far, I'm commuting in the exact opposite direction of DC... I was heading down 81 to Edinburg, now to Strasburg.

We're starting at $299,990 for a 1 car garage luxury townhome, and our current incentives are:
$20,000 to spend however you like in options (money!)
Free finished rec room in the basement (super money, makes the house like 2300 square feet or so)
3 piece plumbing rough in
Integrated HVAC humidifier
22 Cu in Refridgerator, double oven, range hood, cooktop, dishwasher, gas cooking
And of course all of the NV standards that make our homes pwn the others that you walk in 8)

- WRXtranceformed - 11-09-2006

You guys are fuckin lazy =P

I used to wake up at 5:15 for work everyday to get there by 6:30-7AM

Personally, next year I'll be willing to save $200,000 on a place to add a little time to my commute. Of course, I don't work up that way, I'll most likely be in the Shenandoah Valley / Frederick County area for a while ^_^

- Apoc - 11-09-2006

Has little to do with being lazy and a lot to do with wanting to spend less time in the effin' car.

I wake up at 7:55 to shit, shower, shave and get to my desk by 8:30.

I spent an extra $170k for 1100 more sq ft and to take time away from my commute. Then again, short commute is a major priority in my life.

- Beej - 11-09-2006

A consistent 1.5-2 hour commute can blow my cock. Seriously, that's ridiculous. That's adding 3-4 hours to every single day of your life.

- WRXtranceformed - 11-09-2006

Like you said, it just depends on what's important to you Wink

Not everyone can afford to live that close to their jobs. Fortunately, I'll most likely be working in an area where housing prices are lower than they are in Northern VA.

To put things in perspective, my partner lives in Harrisonburg. He bought a luxury townhome there, probably one of the nicest townhomes I've ever seen, for the amount that you paid "extra" for a closer commute and a finished basement. He only commutes about 25mins to work, up 81, with no traffic every day =P

This is just me, but I actually enjoy my time in the car every morning, even though I'm commuting a long distance. It gives me a chance to wake up and to listen to EITM to get my day rolling ^_^

Apoc Wrote:I wake up at 7:55 to shit, shower, shave and get to my desk by 8:30.

Dang. I wake up at 5:50 to get to work at 7:30am.

Derek, live close to where you work, it will be so much better. Short commute is important to me too. I want to move to Old Town to be closer to Bolling.

- Apoc - 11-09-2006

You know what I enjoy? Living 4 miles from my office. Maybe it's just me, but I actually like being in my bed. Gives me a chance to... umm... sleep longer. I'd also venture to guess that I make more than he does un Harrisonburg (except maybe 'cause it's sales, which I'd never wanna do).

- .RJ - 11-09-2006

WRXtranceformed Wrote:Not everyone can afford to live that close to their jobs.

Sure they can. Its just a matter of choice. $300k tiny condo, vs. $300k luxury townhome.

WRXtranceformed Wrote:He only commutes about 25mins to work, up 81, with no traffic every day =P

If you dont work in NoVa or DC where the job market is for most of us isat/cs/business majors is... thats not much of an option. Even if I did find a job out in in the valley i'm not sure I'd take it - as much as I hate nova, I like being near my friends and family if I'm going to live here.

Having a long commute sitting in traffic severly impacts my quality of life. Thats my choice though. I'm not as bad as Chris, but I sure would like a 4 mile commute. As it is right now, my 15 mile backroads commute on the bike really isnt bad. 28 minutes door-to-desk.
