i find it pretty cool that we've had quite a few highly rare/oddball cars in this club. from Dave and Rex's 1JZ supra to Blair's Soarer to your 2.8 STi....
I am completely stoked!! I almost freaked out when I got the final total on the bill though, but then I realized that I had already paid $6,000 of that down, so I felt a lot better about it

- JustinG - 06-21-2006

Jeez, your down payment cost as much as my entire build up...

Picking it up today motherfuckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know I have a busy weekend ahead of putting tons of no-boost miles on this thing so it can hit the dyno =D

Cockblocked =(

Andrew called me on teh way up there and explained that they were having trouble controlling the idle. Understandable, considering the motor is completely different from stock and the cams are huge.

Idle is controlled completely electronically in this car, and unfortunately my engine management doesn't control idle. They're going to keep it a while longer because they are going to be working out an experimental mechanical fix with the brainiac guru and owner of TurboXS. TXS is donating all the parts needed for free, and Andrew is donating his install time to make it work, so that works.

I DID get to drive this car though. Aside from its obvious desire to not want to idle, and adjusting to the new clutch, all I can say is MY DEAR GOD.

It sounds unbelievable. I'm really going to have to somehow weld on a different custom muffler or something, because it is LOUD and RASPY as shit. Andrew says he's embarassed to drive the thing to and from work everyday hahah

Under load, the motor feels extremely healthy and I cannot begin to describe how much torque this thing has with absolutely NO BOOST at all. Not once did I get into positive boost and it pulled hard until I shut it down every time around 4krpms. With 30 pounds of boost, this thing is going to be an axle-breaker. Literally. After that initial drive, the goal of 500whp feels like it can be easily achievable, if not much much more than that on pump gas alone.

A good example is a 4th gear pull I did from 40mph. Not really the gear you want for power at that speed. At 1 QUARTER throttle, at 2800rpms, the car started to jump just like my old setup did right before full boost in any gear. Again, that's on 0 boost, basically completely naturally aspirated haha.

So the reunion is postponed a little longer, but at least it's something tangible to me now. AND the bill is paid, so it's nice to get that off my chest =p

Yeah, I wanted him to put some miles on it before I started to break it in, so that he can make sure that everything is working together well... no hoses are popping off, no pinhole leaks occur (he found on in one of the coolant lines for example).

Just making sure it's functioning properly so I can break it in worry-free.

This thing better be ready soon.

Don't forget to tell me when the tuning date will be.

Bling on! Looking good.

Is that green fluid a lubricant to help with ring or piston installation?

- WRXtranceformed - 07-11-2006

I wish I could tell you, but I have NFI to be honest =p

Thats the block being bored, its coolant so the grinding stones arent burned up.... notice the torque plate on the block. The crank looks like a nice piece of work, a lot of time went into it.

- ScottyB - 07-11-2006

those parts look nice enough to wear 8) can't wait to get your full review dude.

- PDenbigh - 07-12-2006

That looks like a really strong design for a block (natively). And the crank is beautiful!

When can we expect to see this car in some magazines? With MM stickers affixed ;-)?

Congrats on an awesome project dude!

Pete

- WRXtranceformed - 07-12-2006

Thanks Pete! If this thing got into a magazine for some reason, I'd definitely light it up with a phat chrome MM sticker =D

Nice man, I think it is definitely worthy of something big.
