BRZ - JPolen01 - 01-16-2020

That's a nice blue. I saw a yellow one this morning (maybe that Ts or whatever they call it) and it looked great. I dig em.

Evan Wrote:The more I drive this car,  the more I like it.  I honestly think you would love it more than your Si.

i think i would, and considering how many cars you've driven i'd trust your opinion on the 86. believe it or not the 8th gen Si and the 86 share a lot of common metrics....electric steering, strut/multilink, 6 speed, ~200hp/150lb ft, within ~150 lbs, small but functional back seats, nearly same width and 5" of wheelbase. i find that i love the high powerband and 200hp is my happy number for street driving a smaller car. it seems to be the logical next step since i've never gotten to enjoy owning a RWD car and i mostly just cart around myself and my son...bigger trips are handled by the 4Runner now. i don't love the FA20 but i think its built strong enough to stay together long term with bolt ons.

the catch right now is that the Si is a great, reliable, cheap car and it does its job perfectly. but i've got the bug at this point....probably a matter of time. i want to focus on using the camper this year and maybe start thinking about an 86 seriously next year (at which point i might find some of the PP cars have come down further in price)

Evan Wrote:2015s and 2016s have new coilpacks and harnesses that fix the issue.  They were what I was shopping for until I found a great deal on a 17 Perf Pack.

all my searches started at 2015 as well for the reasons you stated. they're cheap enough now i didn't see much reason to go earlier. sounds like all of them suffer from weak TOB's so that's also budgeted into my cost unless i got lucky and find one that already had it done. anything else to look out for?

i saw one of those TRD FRS's (black with the TRD stripe down the fender) when we were buying the 4Runner and i'm not gonna lie, i loved it. its like a little hotwheels car. my inner ricer was filled with joy at all the street cred i'd get from 16 year olds if i had that.

RE: BRZ - Evan - 06-22-2020

Got out to Shenandoah this past weekend for some long overdue track time.  Between injuring my hand last year and Covid-pocalypse this year its been about a year since I originally bought the car.

The plan was to go out and take it easy for a weekend to ease back into things and not get in over my head too soon.  Naturally,  that plan didnt last long and after about a session and a half I started sending it.  Like riding a bike,  I guess?

The car did great,  never missed a beat.   Stock tires did what stock tires do,  and while I didnt mind the lower grip,  the overheating and inconsistency after 2 laps will likely lead me to put better tires on before next event.

On to the pix:

Always take advantage of the skidpad when available!

My car and a buddy's sweet M3.  That car rips.

Prior to the event,  I tossed in this Sparco to keep my helmet from hitting the roof.  It may look familiar,  I got it from Ginger,  he got it from DJ, and who knows how many people had it before him.   I also have Jakes old Momo seat that I may try next. Side note: PCI Seat mounts are awesome.

Had an interesting mix of cars at the event,  Ariel Atom,  4 Kia Stingers (Kia Stinger fanclub trackday?) ,  a Tesla Model 3,  a Radical, a couple showcar GTRs,  but the highlight was an amazing Lancia Stratos.

Its a handbuilt replica,  and the level of detail is amazing.
The period correct interior especially blew me away.   Look at those analog stopwatches!

Cant wait for the next one!

RE: BRZ - BLINGMW - 06-22-2020

Glad you had fun! That Stratos is pretty much the best thing I've ever seen... did he say what the starting point was for it or is it just 99% custom? Just tell me it's a Fiero.  Heart Big Grin

RE: BRZ - Tyler.M - 07-26-2020

I'm definitely considering getting one of these again. I'm surprised more MM'rs haven't picked these up yet, it's like a more usable miata with the hatch and back seats. I'm surprised at how much junk I could fit in the back with the seats down and with a small tune, the torque dip isn't really that big of a deal

Custom tube frame from a company in the UK,  so similar to what Factory Five does.

BRZ - Senor_Taylor - 07-26-2020

Lots of MMers have these, you're just not involved with the club so you don't know them Big Grin We'll have an MMer doing DE in his at VIR next weekend. (My roommate, Tyler)

Another MMer, Ian does DEs in his as well.

Im following several T4 racers and there havent been any problems.  Even with the amplified nature of the internet,  there arent really any problems until you get to much higher power levels.  Some guys pop axles but better grease and a boot vent helps a ton.
Other than some of the early 2013s,  these are pretty darn reliable,  which makes sense considering the platform was built for much heavier/higher power WRX and STi

RE: BRZ - Evan - 10-15-2020

New wheels,  new tires,  and a fresh alignment to dail in a bit more camber for the stickier tires.   Light dusting of brake dust after re-bedding my pads on the Merrifield Grand Prix Circuit.

hellaflush?   not quite.   Im glad I got ET35 instead of ET45

Im hitting VIR on saturday,  then Im going to drive it down to SC where it will live at my parent's place while we move.

RE: BRZ - Senor_Taylor - 10-15-2020

Didn't realize you were in Merrifield.

looks great Evan. you cannot go wrong with the RPF1. i think the offset looks perfect for full wheel travel.

great tire too...i had bad thoughts about running the RS4 on mine since they're so long lasting even for a 200TW.
