Yeah I was like 10 so I don't remember the specific details. I just remember it didn't roll start like we thought it should, maybe some cars are different?

Derecola, you opened your door while the GTI is still in gear yet? If not, do it, the alarm buzzer sounds like someone has a goddamn missile lock on you. It's *almost* as obnoxious as the E36's "hey you left your lights on" buzzer.

Can't roll start an auto. I gotta stop using that tapatalk app, I miss half of what is posted.

I have, to do things like reach pay stations that were designed for stupid ass SUVs. It's really annoying.

I lasted about three days on taptatalk each of the two times I've used it. I find the UX to be ineffective.

Nothing beats the "CLOSE THE FUCKING DOOR RIGHT NOW. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" buzzer from NA Miatas.

Tapatalk can be difficult to navigate at times but I don't think there is any other way to do it on a phone. Screen size just isn't big enough for the forum layout.

I have no problems with my GS8, other than trimming quotes to only the part you want to respond to is annoying.

Get a better phone.

RE: Project: Swagger Wagon - Apoc - 10-09-2017

Finally took the roof carrier off - it'd been on there since the day I bought it. The factory rails on this car are really well done. You barely notice them when nothing's on the roof, but they fit really easily to aftermarket bars. I kinda expected BMW to be a bitch about fitment, but not so. Anyway, I decided to leave the bars on. I'm sure there's a small MPG hit, but we're all city miles and not that many at that. Maybe we should take up skiing?

RJ's thread had me thinking about the car and whether I'd want to spend money on it. I mean, yeah I'd like too... but it's a baby hauler that I can't afford to have downtime on. I probably just suck at this thing, but any mechanical mod I've done worth a damn has caused at least a minor issue. I drive this car like a half dozen times a month, so I wouldn't get to enjoy it anyway. I wouldn't mind the sport seats though...

Sport seats are really nice.

You can also get a Dinan tune on it... TURBO TURBO TURBO

TUNE ALL THE THINGS

RE: Project: Swagger Wagon - Apoc - 02-12-2018

Car sat in an airport parking lot for a week, then showed a low tire pressure warning when we got in late Saturday night. I inspected the tire and it seemed okay, so I assumed it was just low due to the 35 degree weather. There was a slight rumble as I started to drive highway speeds, but again, I just figured it was a flat spot from sitting and the cold rubber. I wasn't 100% convinced, so I didn't go faster than 60 on the way home. About 3/4 of the way there, there was a bang and a minor loss of stability - it was clear the tire had blown. We were on the side of a highway, it was nearing midnight, we had our kid in the back, and our car was loaded with our luggage. I went through all the options (read: hassle) to get home and eventually decided to drive on the run flat. We were ~6 miles from home, so I figured the worst that could happen is I ruin a wheel and/or have to abandon the car closer to home.

I've never driven any distance on a run flat and I have to say, I am a believer. It was obvious we didn't have four good tires, but I drove 20-30 mph home with zero problems. It doesn't give you the same distance as a full size spare would, however that doesn't really matter that much for us since 95% of our driving is in a five mile radius. I will likely always have run flats on our family hauler for this very reason - I just didn't want to fathom calling for help at the hour and with the logistics we were dealing with. The car itself also handled really well with a problem tire. I can't say how much was tire and how much was car, but a rear tire blowout at highway speeds has the potential for disaster. The car was 100% controllable with no significant loss of input, feel, or handling. I'm guessing a lot of it is tire, although I suspect xDrive has something to do with it.

I had the car towed from our house to a tire shop nearby this morning (thanks free BMW roadside assistance!) for inspection. They said the inside shoulder of the tire was down to cord, which was surprising given the outside shoulder had enough tread. The car will sit pretty low when it's fully loaded, so I suspect it was part alignment and part our use over the last two years. The treadwear on the current tires is 500 and the car has like 49k miles on it, so the failure isn't super surprising if they're the original tires. I'm pretty sure they are, so I'm replacing all four with the same tire - Pirelli all-season run flats. The unexpected expense sucks, but I should have seen it coming given the mileage. The good news is we'll be ready for some road trips this summer and these tires should last us for the remainder of our ownership -- we've done ~9k miles in 22 months, so that's like 10 years.

All in all, it was a potentially terrible situation that ended up not being that problematic. I'm kinda shocked.

RE: Project: Swagger Wagon - .RJ - 02-12-2018

Glad that worked out for you, but I ditched the runflats on my E91 and NO RAGRETS. They ride *SO* much better..

I'll be sure to call you when I have a kid and get a flat at midnight on the highway in east bumblefuck, WV ski town.

Project: Swagger Wagon - JPolen01 - 02-12-2018

Had the same issue going to work last week. Light came on, ah fuck it it's just cold. Started feeling weird so I got it and damn there was a nail in my tire. Good thing I was a half mile from home and limped it back to put the spare on.

I haven't noticed them, honestly. The run flats on our Clubman were pretty turrible, but I have no complaints about these... probably because our roads are so bad I don't notice. I wondered how the snow traction is, then I remembered I've driven in the snow like once in the last few years. We get snow in the mountains, but chains or studded tires are almost always required so the point is mostly moot.

I just got a call and the car is done. The local shop I took it to actually had better prices than tirerack, which surprised me.  I honestly can't believe how painless this issue was (not counting cost).

RE: Project: Swagger Wagon - Jake - 02-13-2018

The big benefit of a run-flat is huge for a lot of people. One of my friends (not a car guy) brought his E90 over and the low tire light was on. He'd driven ~10 miles with about 6 psi in the right front and had no idea. Those sort of people are why RFTs exist and are popular.
