this is the exact argument, to the word, i tried to use to reason with my wife for why she wanted an SUV and not a wagon. she didn't want a wagon because her parents had some giantass family truckster and she hated it. i have no idea how she works with DNA every day but somehow makes that weird mental leap with SUVs.

I don't think it's reasonable to write off an entire model group based on anecdotal experiences. I guess if you don't think they're useful, then you don't. But I'm not the only person posting here saying "I really can see a role for these vehicles in my life" and I think that speaks for itself.
Nope, not you. You're "driving quickly occasionally" is sensible because of your association to motorsports enthusiast. Not because you're late to work and feel the need to blow a red light at 70, merge between cars at 90, and an overall blatant disregard for sensible driving most of the time. It comes with the car. My statement about motorcyles was directed towards you probably encountering said individual riding. Hell most any person in humungo SUv. Granted that's a blanketed statement but that just how I see it. I've seen people driving them normally but most of the time, no, they don't. Do you like them, does DJ like them, does G. like them? Sure. You're right I don't think of them as completely useful. Hence the title of the thread. Love Em or Hate Em

So basically if any of us buy a sport SUV we must:
A. Not let our wives/girlfriends drive them
B. Not slick back our hair or wear aviators
C. Always be towing something

On that note, I'd love to see a Top Gear episode where they got a Cayenne Turbo, X5 M, and SRT8 and attempted to do the Baja 1000 or something with them. I imagine it would end up a lot like that failed Ford Raptor jump video. Maybe if I was rich I would try something stupid like that myself.

Clarkson did something along those lines with an X6. Not the Baja 1000 but a good start. I'd support the Baja idea though

So, not considered a real "Sport SUV", but perhaps you could look at something like a new Ford Explorer? 3.5 twin turbo, 365hp/350tq (before the boost knob), 5000# towing. In a year or so they will be on the used market and probably pretty affordable.

Yeah now that there are a couple of SUV's coming from the factory with boost that might be an easy way to go. 365/350 is already plenty to work with.
