Then somebody is doing a shit job spotting you... I took a completely stock 97 tahoe up flagpole on all-seasons and SHE didn't scrape a thing. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 03-28-2014 Not saying it's ever been a problem. Just what will be the problem. I have less than stock ground clearance in the rear. I'm heading to flagpole tomorrow with some Toyotas. Y'all can tag along if you want. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-08-2014 I'll post my RTI ramp pics since it's the cool thing to do.. ![]() ![]()
Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-08-2014 We all agreed that the amount of travel you have is very surprising. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-08-2014 3" and 31's on XJs are a force to be reckoned with. It was a good experiment that helped me pin point some areas to improve. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Kaan - 04-08-2014 You have some good numbers... Brake lines and shocks holding you back? We had you in some crazy spots at camp heep last year... You and the jeep handled it well. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-08-2014 I'll be sure to give Garrett that guys contact info again for next year. He drove all the way down from MD for this. He said he had fun. I'm getting my 3" lift soon, so it'll be a good test next year. 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-08-2014 Kaan Wrote:You have some good numbers... Brake lines and shocks holding you back? Actually no. Colton pointed out that my up travel on the front is limited by the LCA contacting the shock mount. He mentioned I should be able to cut that bit of metal out and gain an inch or two. Otherwise, I should start looking looking into a quality LCA with bends, like Clayton or Ironman 4x4 with a decent joint. Then, I'm going to guess that a longer length shock would do me nicely. I'm extremely pleased with the results the "pieced" together lift has provided me. Now it's a matter of replacing some other components with quality items to help it all work together. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-08-2014 My current focus is to armor up. Sliders and a diff cover are a high priority list for camp heep. I intend on running blues/blacks. I can go to heep knowing the numbers I put up are what they are and I have armor to back it up. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-08-2014 Armor is essential. Sliders are by far the best purchase I've made. Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-11-2014 Well, spring is *officially here I guess which means it's time to go over the XJ and address any major items for preventative maintanence and upgrades: Post car show I have a nice clicking noise in the front when I turn at low speeds and suspect either the axle u joints or front DS u joint is on it's way out or already toast. I went to crank it up the other morning this week and all I got was a completely dead car when I turned the key. Gave her a jump and fired her right up. I suspect the battery is quite old on this girl and maybe time for a new one. Need to check the date and have the auto shops test it. Need to give my rear drums a glance to see if they are properly adjusted or need replacing. Overall that should cover me for maintanence in question unless something else pops up. Upgrade wise: AJs offroad Super rock rails ![]() Solid Diff Covers F/R IRO Double Sheer Adj Track Bar ![]() YJ brake lines for a little more stretch OH, and replace that busted tail light for inspection this month... Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-18-2014 Few replacement parts came in today. Fresh new driver taillight and a 95 yj rear center brake line. They are about 3" longer than a stock XJ line so I won't be worried about playing Dixie on this one when the whole rear is flexed.. Something tells me this new light it going to stick out like a sore thumb. Way too shiny. ![]() Still waiting for the 4 brand new spicer u joints I ordered to come in. Turns out the clicking noise was my passenger axle u joint. It's binding up pretty good at full lock. I'll replace driver and passenger and keep the other 2 as trail spares since my DS ujoints look ok. Order up my diff covers next and sliders. Kaan you don't mind them showing up to your house right..? 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-18-2014 Also, in about the 2 years I've owned this thing I finally tackled the front speakers not working.. Common problem for the XJ's is the door/speaker harness wires pass between the door and the body via a rubber grommet. Over time, as the door continously opens and closes the poor little wires eventually just snap and everything goes to hell. Yanked the passenger door card and repaired the wiring. WAHLA! I have sound! The driver side is a little more annoying in that the wire is broken and the factory harness for the speaker connector is missing from the body side to connect to this.. ![]() I need to either go to a JY and find that plug (my 1st choice but limited by the ZERO fucking JY's in the area..) or just clip the connector and solder that beotch directly. Battery no longer seems to be an issue so I dropped getting that tested and I adjusted my rear drums and HOLY HELL that's where all my braking power was lost :finger: Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-18-2014 How hard was the brake line swap? I have to do the same thing to my taco soon. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Haven't done it yet, but on my last XJ it wasn't too bad. Maybe an hour including bleeding all 4 corners. It as simple as removing the old lines and screwing them into the new center line. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-28-2014 Removed my fogs and refreshed my rear drums over the weekend. Valid inspection in the window as of this morning. Old ![]() ![]() ![]() "Newer"
Re: 98' XJ Sport.. Another XJ Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 04-28-2014 BTW, thanks for the recommendations MM.. I picked up the Ryobi 1/2" Impact with two Lithium Ion One+ battery packs and a charger. I foresee a lot of use out of this guy over the summer when I actually get my lazy ass around to ordering upgrades. |
