Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-20-2015 Some unsubstantiated claims from crappy sources: Quote:After the fracas with the producer, Clarkson was suspended by the BBC until further internal investigation and the show had to be eventually called of. This came in as a big blow to Top Gear fans and an online petition to reinstate Clarkson was started, which now has been signed by over a million people. The removal of Clarkson may have cost the BBC a large chunk of viewers. http://thesupercarkids.com/jeremy-clarkson-offered-to-return-to-top-gear I stand by what I said, at this point I think I'd rather see him (or possibly him + Hammond and May) just cut ties with the BBC and do something new. Re: Automotive News Discussion - Ken - 03-20-2015 Sully Wrote:Ken Wrote:If I were Clarkson, I'd push for the firing and take it to Netflix. Profit.Or I bet an American company would pay them a boatload to start a new show over here. If you think he's censored now, imagine how bad it would be here. Remember, UK is the place has a tabloid sold everywhere that on page 3 has naked chicks. Anyway, if I were Netflix I would definitely be harassing his agent to sit down and discuss how they could make that work. Now would be the time to strike. Especially considering his contract is almost up anyway. Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-20-2015 SlimKlim Wrote:Some unsubstantiated claims from crappy sources:I don't understand the point of this. They all but publicly stated they would fire him if there were another incident. Another incident happens, and they're like, 'Ok, we won't fire you but you must take on an executive nanny.' What's the point of that, so the next time he does something they disapprove of the executive can scold him immediately but not actually punish him? Appointing an executive to monitor him is admitting that there are no consequences for his actions. Why not just save the time and be like, 'Do what you want, we can't afford to fire you.' Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-20-2015 G.Irish Wrote:'Do what you want, we can't afford to fire you.' My guess is it's pretty much exactly that. This is 100% speculation and talking out of my ass, but I feel like the BBC has had a love-hate relationship with Top Gear for the past several years now. They hate the format of wealthy white men cracking jokes because it's culturally insensitive. I also seriously doubt most people at the BBC reflect Clarkson 'n' The Boys views on speeding/traffic/congestion laws, and probably don't appreciate them standing on their soapboxes during BBC air time every week. On the flipside, it just so happens to be the most watched TV show in all of history, and boy does the BBC like big fat piles of cash. That's where all the empty threats and dramatic bullshit are coming from. Morally they hate him, but they kinda need him. Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 03-20-2015 And now there's this...not sounding good :? http://blog.caranddriver.com/video-clarkson-says-hes-been-sacked-and-bbc-fked-up-top-gear/ Re: Automotive News Discussion - *insertusernamehere* - 03-21-2015 Evan Wrote:fwiw, this guy was not *the* producer. in tv pretty much everyone not in front of a camera is called some kind of a producer. even the guy who gets the coffee is a 'producer', which is exactly what it sounds like this guy was Did you have a source for that though? Just curious.. Honestly, imo as unpopular as it is, Clarkson should just call it quits altogether. He's turning into a dinosaur like just go retire and allow everything he's done to just live on. If anything he can make one last big special or something to close himself out but i mean, i've been prepared for someone new to come along soon anyways. There are other great presenters out there that will grow into their own. Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-24-2015 Ooh lawd. Saleen Mustang S302 pumping out 730 hp for $73k. Not bad Saleen, not bad. http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2015-s ... ealed-news Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 03-24-2015 Not sure why but that front end shot makes me think new charger, not mustang. Maybe it's a combination of the angle and the headlights being off but idk Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-24-2015 I think it's the headlights, I see it too. Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-24-2015 New XF: Not a huge fan honestly! I really like my gen and the current gen styling much better. The interior of this car is almost identical to mine, they really didn't change much. One comment on the Jag forums was that it looks like a rental car, which I think is fair. The biggest thing I noticed is that it isn't really pulling off the F-Type tail lights...they look derpy on this car. Re: Automotive News Discussion - fiveoh2go - 03-24-2015 G.Irish Wrote:Ooh lawd. Saleen Mustang S302 pumping out 730 hp for $73k. Not bad Saleen, not bad. Underwhelming is the word that came to mind upon first viewing this car after its long overdue debut. :dunno: First off : What took ya so long Saleen? Roush has their cars sitting on dealer lots for sale right now! Second : Ever since Phil Frank stopped doing the exterior design work for Saleen, their cars no longer have that "just right" aesthetic about them. Third : I'd be reeeeeally surprised if Saleen is still in business 18 months from now, given the way their ledger books currently look. Do I want to buy a car from a company on the verge of bankruptcy? Fourth : $73K is waaay too much for what this car is....a GT with an appearance package, wheels, and blower. Everyone will be asking "Saleen who?" once the new GT350 hits the streets in December for thousands less. Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-25-2015 And it's official, top gear as we knew it is dead. https://mobile.twitter.com/BBCBreaking/ ... 4870902784 Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-25-2015 ![]() I was sick of that melodramatic bullshit. Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-25-2015 Welp, Clarkson got what he deserved. Yelling insults and profanities at your team then assaulting someone for 30 seconds who did not make any attempt to retaliate is really unacceptable. The fact that Clarkson was the one who brought the incident to the attention of the BBC and tried to apologize means he knows he was in the wrong, yet either couldn't control himself, or at the time thought that he wouldn't suffer consequences. Then the motherfucker has the nerve to get on stage at a charity event and say 'BBC fucked the show up'. For fuck's sake take some responsibility for your actions. He's the only one of the 3 on that show that was repeatedly reprimanded, maybe, just maybe his actions were the reason for that. Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-25-2015 Sounds like they were also drinking right before this event occurred. James May even said he was blackout drunk when asked about the event. Doesn't make it acceptable, but I would guess that had something to do with it. Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 03-25-2015 i guess i'll eat my words. i was sure they didn't have the balls to can him. well, end of an era...but Clarkson didn't give them a choice. shame he'd f'd the whole package up for May and Hammond as well, they do a lot of side shows but their careers were pretty much based on Clarkson's presence in the show to make it what it was. Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 03-25-2015 ScottyB Wrote:i guess i'll eat my words. i was sure they didn't have the balls to can him. +1. I hope all 3 continue on together with a new program as they were damn near the perfect trio for the show. At the same time I feel some new hosts won't be the end of the world, I'm sure there are plenty of viable candidates, some we know (Chris Harris) and some we don't - and given the British knack for comedy and TV presenting, I'm sure they'll bring a group together that will do relatively well - but what the BBC had with Hammond/May/Clarkson was very, very good. We've already seen what a more PC/neutered version of TG would be like in the form of Fifth Gear though, so that does make me a bit worried. Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-25-2015 Goodspeed Wrote:Eh I don't think Fifth Gear wasn't as good because it lacked racial stereotype jokes. It wasn't as good because it didn't have the budget for stunts and the presenters weren't as good. Plenty of Top Gear's episodes were great without some of the borderline humor Clarkson was known for so ultimately I don't think that was the key to its success. It was successful because of the chemistry of the presenters, the writing, the cars, and the stunts.ScottyB Wrote:We've already seen what a more PC/neutered version of TG would be like in the form of Fifth Gear though, so that does make me a bit worried. Find another talented crew and keep the production values the same and Top Gear can live on just fine, although it'll probably take awhile to find its stride. They'll have to tailor the show to the new hosts though. I hope with a new show they get an ex pro racer with some personality (someone I saw recommended Guy Martin  ), a full on comedian who is into cars, and maybe someone who is automotive journalist. For format changes maybe they can have their guests actually film some of the challenges/stunts on the show. Now is as good an opportunity as any to break new ground. One thing I wish they'd do is actually suit up for some club racing, or participate in enthusiast track days or something. Interact more with the enthusiast community. Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-25-2015 Couldn't they just get the man some steak?!? It's hard to find good help these days. Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-25-2015 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Couldn't they just get the man some steak?!? It's hard to find good help these days.Maybe it was a set up. They knew the only thing in this world keeping Clarkson sane was a medium rare ribeye and they purposefully set up at a hotel that only served codfish and chicken sandwiches to push him over the edge. |
