"Right now". Haha. I don't know of he wants to deal with BBC even if he doesn't get fired I think he might quit. But, who knows...

I think the other two also said previously that if anyone left or was fired, they would leave as well. So not really. I can't imagine other hosts being as good.

Here's a source for what I said earlier. Top gear is dead without JC.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-19-2015

Well if the show ends it's Clarkson's fault. Assaulting someone in the workplace is usually going to result in termination, even for a star employee. Top Gear may have to replace all 3 hosts if Clarkson is out, but so be it. Every organization has its limits.

With a new set of hosts TG will definitely take a ratings dive but I don't think it's impossible to have a successful show with new hosts. Clarkson, Hammond, and May were going to have to retire some day anyway.

Werent they drunk and out at a restaraunt? Not that it makes it better, but if you or I bloodied a coworkers nose out on the town it would be settled (or dismissed) via the legal system, not get fired for it. Sucks to be a celebrity I guess.

ALso I thought I read that Jezza owns a portion of the show, so if they fire him the show either goes away or they pay him off for his portion. Which I dont see happening.

while clarkson may be the ringleader, dont discount how important the chemistry of the hosts is.
the worst episodes of top gear IMO are the specials where there are extended sequences of solo Clarkson commentary. Without the other guys to play off of, he just just an annoying asshole.
(same applies to his book. i tried to read it and couldnt get through the first chapter)

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 03-19-2015

I feel like if you punched someone who's kinda your superior or even your subordinate, you would get fired as well as legal stuff. Idk where you consider a producer. I would say although Clarkson is the star, the producer is kind of still his boss.

Is it clear that the producer was drinking and or drunk? I have been trying to not to follow it because there seems to be so much here say and speculation even at this point. And fake stories or stories that are being called fake so I'll just wait till something official happens.

The only thing I know for sure is in one "interview", James May said he didn't know what happened cause he was so drunk. Then sometime later or before, idk, he said he wasn't there. Does it mean he wasn't at the dinner at all, wasn't in the area, or is he just saying shit cause he's tired of all the press. In both, I believe he says he thinks it's all ridiculous and not that big of a deal

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-19-2015

Nobody sees the producer. Fire that guy, find a new one out of a million willing to take his spot and let the show go on if you want to keep the cash cow running. I mean people beat up women in the NFL and they still keep their jobs.

Yeah but even in sports sometimes teams decide they've had enough of a star player's shit and they get rid of them.

Yeah Top Gear brings in the big bucks, but BBC is not a totally private entity so their calculus might be a bit different. Surely they'd lose a lot of money by axing Clarkson (and I'm sure the other 2 would follow), but BBC is probably not as money-focused as most media companies.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 03-19-2015

fwiw, this guy was not *the* producer. in tv pretty much everyone not in front of a camera is called some kind of a producer. even the guy who gets the coffee is a 'producer', which is exactly what it sounds like this guy was (definnitely not clarksons boss, especially considering clarkson owns part of the show). not that it means he should be a punching bag by any means. clarkson is still a prick.

its long been rumored/leaked that BBC finds the shows formula of middle aged white men cracking jokes to be culturally distasteful and has been looking for a good excuse to cancel the show.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Ken - 03-19-2015

If I were Clarkson, I'd push for the firing and take it to Netflix. Profit.

I'm imagining a coffee bitch getting beat on every day for the smallest reason or no reason at all. Slapped for coffee that's too hot, punched for late meal, kick in the balls for cold anything.

Ken Wrote:If I were Clarkson, I'd push for the firing and take it to Netflix. Profit.
I wanna say he cashed out of his stake in Top Gear. He could probably afford to get something going, and I know Netflix would pay big money to have the show. That would be a pretty sweet outcome.

Or I bet an American company would pay them a boatload to start a new show over here. Of course, then the rest of the world would hate it.

I may be talking out of my ass but I feel like they aren't highly paid. Like they make more than I ever will, I'm sure, but relative to like other stars of way less popular us only shows. Like chumlee makes 80k an episode and the jersey shore asshats made way more by the end.

I feel like BBC isn't as generous as some media companies. I mean they all seem to only talk about having on nice (slightly old) performance car. James may 430 and Jeremy's ford gt for a little while. But i guess i wouldn't buy lots of cars either if i got the latest and greatest every week

Um Jeremy Clarkson is the one of the highest paid presenters in that channel's history. He makes like $1M pounds alone for his salary as presenter, his stake in the show and dividends puts that over $14M pounds:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/10183784/Jeremy-Clarkson-becomes-one-of-highest-paid-presenters-in-BBC-history.html">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvan ... story.html</a><!-- m -->

Edit: Looks like last year he negotiated a 3 year $14M deal as well, probably a salary bump with his normal dividends

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 03-19-2015

I did preface it that I may very well be talking out my ass lol

maybe that should go in your signature line? Wink Tongue

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 03-19-2015

Polen already suggested that. I strictly use Tapatalk so I don't see signatures anymore so it wouldn't be as funny for me

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-19-2015

I read somewhere his net worth was £30M, which I thought seemed low, but he's probably spent a significant chunk of his annual income on cars.

I've sort of been hoping for this since I heard about the rest of the season being canceled. I'm getting sick of all the drama of an oil coal fed dinosaur clashing with british public TV. It'd be nice to see Clarkson use his bankroll to start up a new show that was 100% his, whether on a streaming service or an online site with ads like CICGC. He has to realize that most international fans torrent the show anyway. :dunno:
