Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 03-03-2015

I'd still take the Golf R. Sorry, Honda.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-03-2015

My initial impressions of the 3 newish hot hatches in comparison to each other

Focus RS > Highest performance
Civic-R > Highest reliability, highest amount of torque steer
Golf-R > Highest amount of German parts

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-03-2015

Also, there's this beast, the Koenigsegg Regera

0-250 MPH in under 20 seconds.
93-155 in 3.2 seconds

That's starting at 90 and doing an increase of 60 mph faster than 99% of cars can do a 0 to 60 mph sprint

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-03-2015

What a horrible color for such an awesome car. What are you building that car for females?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-04-2015

Boof, so the GT is going to cost as much as an Aventador?! I thought the whole point of that car in the past was to be an exclusive performer but that wasn't priced quite into supercar territory. If I was financially capable of purchasing a car like that and one was on the radar, I can't see coughing up over $400k after taxes for a Ford, I'm sorry.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-04-2015

Top comment on that article is a fair one to my point:
Quote:So £50k more expensive than a Ferrari 488GTB, Mclaren 650s or Lamborghini Huracan, but with a smaller 6 cylinder engine instead of 8 or 10 and less power?

Ummmm. Yeah. The beauty of the previous Ford GT was that it was relatively cheap for what it was, undercutting the price of a Ferrari 430 while dishing out a crushing 100bhp more from a big gargling V8.

Now Ford want to charge you more than all the big supercar names, for less, with a Ford logo on the front. Sounds like a much harder sell to me.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-05-2015

Yeah when I first saw that car I knew it was gonna be outrageously expensive. Thing is, it's goal in life is to win in GT racing. That's why it's using the 3.5L ecoboost, so it can fit under forced induction engine displacement rules in racing.

If Ford can keep this car light (under/around 3000 lbs) it will sell just fine. They're only making 250/year which would make it far more exclusive than any Ferrari or Lambo that isn't a Speciale or Superleggera. And it has a racing lineage that goes wire a ways back.

I personally think it would've been better if Ford made the car for the ~$150k market, then released a racing trim level with all the carbon fibers for $400k.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 03-05-2015

The rich have gotten (way) richer since 2005, and that generation's FGT is going for 250-700k now. Ford I guess wanted to keep up with the times.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - fiveoh2go - 03-05-2015

Lulz at folks bitching about how expensive the new FGT is when they would never buy one anyway, even at $150K! For the uninitiated : it's an expensive supercar rich guys will line up to buy!

Be glad they're even building it, let alone racing it. I am.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-05-2015

Yeah I think some of the typical arguments are dumb but Ford may yet have trouble selling these if:

A. It's not light. It's a big ass car so even with all that carbon fiber I don't know that they'll be able to get the car down to under 3000 lbs.
B. It's not successful in racing
C. It's not blistering fast around a race track

Even if Ford meets all three of those challenges I have a feeling that they'll sell out in the first year or two, then they'll have trouble moving them in years 3 and 4. If I were Ford I would make the homologation special with the 3.5 Ecoboost, and offer a TT V8 with eleventy-thousand horsepower as an option.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 03-10-2015

No one talking about Clarkson getting suspended??

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-10-2015

We're too sad.

haha what'd he say now?

Got in a little argument with BBC producer

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-10-2015

Are the British people really that uptight? He seems to be loathed as much as he's loved in Britain.

Lots of comics and politicians seem to use them as punching bags and the Daily Mail never misses an opportunity to demand he be publicly hanged in front of Buckingham Palace.

From the outside looking in it seems like his probation for something he probably didn't say last year, and suspension for whatever he said this year are just ridiculous overreactions.

I mean think about, it's the most popular show in the world. Three hundred and fifty million people watch it every week. THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION!

You'd think a big, fat golden cash cow like that would have permanent tenure. :dunno:

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 03-10-2015

He's entertaining but I can't say I feel sorry for him. Even if you're a superstar if you piss off your employer enough times there will be consequences. I hope he doesn't get booted or anything but if he did I couldn't say I didn't see it coming.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 03-10-2015

Doesn't he have some ownership in the top gear franchise? I'm pretty sure if they boot him they also boot their most successful program ever. Again, I have no idea what he said or did, but from my perspective if I ran the BBC and I had this asshole bringing me 350,000,000 sets of eyeballs every week, he'd have to do some pretty heinous shit for me to fire him.

:dunno:

No joke. Hey Jeremy, thanks for taking another shit on my desk, it's fantastic!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-10-2015

This world has become way too sensitive and PC. Keep on with your bad self Jeremy!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 03-10-2015

According to twitter he may have punched a producer.
