Pass side of main hoop.

We can figure this out at the track.

You went overkill on the rollbar padding, which is awesome, but I think we can move or cut a gap in somewhere to give you a spot to mount the cam.

Thought of the helmet, just be something I'd have to get used to with a hans on. I'd like to be able to see my shifting/hands so I can watch what I'm doing after the weekend see if I spot any habits I start developing. Back driver side window doesn't really work as there isn't room/awkward angle. I'm not sure what you mean about the passenger hoop. The harness holes in the seat or the harness bar?

Yeah, I know I went a bit overkill but I didn't feel like cutting it nor did I bother how to safely cut up the SFI stuff to make room for the mount. I'll have to remember to bring some zip ties when I make it out to one of the events. Maybe I'll just buy the roll bar mount and just make room on the diagonal brace sounds like the best option to me. Someone could think of something better though :dunno:

But the padding is awesome. Punch it full force and it doesn't hurt one bit. Definitely don't have to worry about any injuries with the bar. It's far enough back anyways.

Edit: lol the SFI shit cuts with a razor blade. Thought it was a bit harder to cut than that.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JustinG - 04-09-2016

Diag bar is where most folks mount it on a roll bar like yours.

Full cage, the harness bar is usually higher and no pass seat, so they mount em there.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 04-09-2016

Oh okay, makes sense. I look like an idiot now. I guess you got to learn basic safety shit some time

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Jake - 04-11-2016

Yeah, I usually cut the SFI padding by making a small cut with a razor blade and then snapping it in two. It's easy.

Bring some zip ties to Summit (I have some as well, probably maybe) and we can adjust/figure out.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 04-11-2016

Hopefully I can make it to Summit as I really want to get back out there. If so I'll be doing last minute checks on Friday night/changing the oil as that is the only time I have...

Edit: I've been assured by Laura they will have work/I will be able to drive int 2 solo or 3 with a check ride (probably Christina). All up to my group members now after the client meeting Friday afternoon.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 04-11-2016

Got bored and procrastinated on homework so I decided to data log and send tuner files to try to update for more power. Fully filled out and correctly entered in corrections from what I've read online for DynoJet and I get about what I expected in whp/wtq around 150/130. Very very slow. WTB VTEC please.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JPolen01 - 04-12-2016

You can't have VTEC. You can only have the knock off SkyActive.

Here is an actual dyno of 2.0 with same mods. Some people say these numbers are higher. Well I know when I get it dyno'd for TTE.

Also, I think I do plan on rotrex supercharging this, aero, helical lsd that Rex mentioned awhile ago. Which maybe would be a TTB or TTC build or something. Idk. It may or may not be competitive that wouldn't be my goal for that type of build.

would need the voodoo witchcraft that is a TT HP/WT reclass. Good luck with that garbage.

It would indeed. Here's to hoping they play nice with a perceived slow and odd car.

i am dying at "Want to buy VTEC PLZ" frog pulling trigger meme LOL....... but for real for a car that is a 2.0 NA meant to be a grocery getter..... those numbers are not bad. driver skill > horsepowerz..... unless you've got like... you know 400hp vs 150hp.

Ask Jake and Maeng what kind of cars they've passed in their track Miatas. 8)

My most notable HPDE 1 accomplishment was passing an E60 M5 - the one with the 500 hp V10 - exiting the carousel at Summit Point.

I was driving a borrowed 1994 Miata with 180k miles, being split between three drivers (me in DE1, instructor/owner of the car, another friend in TTE). NA Miatas dyno at like, 104 hp.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 04-13-2016

Yup, some people suck at driving and some people are afraid to push their expensive, powerful car around track but that's no fun at all. The amount of cars I have passed that I should not have is amusing. Passing a GT3 is probably my favorite moment at Fall Finale

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - ScottyB - 04-13-2016

i remember riding with RJ back when he actually used to race (oooooo burn)....we were at road atlanta in his gutted DC integra (non-vtec) making no more power than your 3. he gave a 996 911 turbo hell for an entire session. the 911 would leave us like a joke on the back straight, and by the esses halfway around, we'd be harassing him again trying to make a pass.

power is cool, but underpowered cars making horsepower people look like idiots is better

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - CaptainHenreh - 04-13-2016

driving a slow car fast is way more fun than driving a fast car slow.

There's a video of a mildly modded Miata being driven by a Koenigsegg factory driver battling it out with a 911 GT3 on the nurburgring. He ends up passing him a few times. He was way faster in the turns, but the porsche obviously made up for it in power.

At work so I didn't watch it, but I think this is it:

I just played this video in class with the volume all of the way up. No regrets.
