Go go gadget watch nerds!

If you didn't overpay for laptops, you could afford a decent watch!

If you are going for cheapish quartz fashionable pieces, just buy a Skagen from Jomashop and save the cash.

Chris, good suggestion - this looks nice - https://www.jomashop.com/skagen-watch-skw2151.html

Two years ago I waited until the last minute to Christmas shop for the wife. Got lucky and found her a Skagen on sale at Nordstrom for $70 and she says she gets compliments on it. I don't think she'd care, but she has no idea it was so reasonably priced. ::easy button::

RE: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - .RJ - 11-28-2018

I bought it. Good price/watch and I've been happy with my Skagens. Thanks for checking me on the fashion brands.

RE: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 12-07-2018

I have a few things to celebrate lately, one of which is 15 years of marriage. The "modern" present for that is watches, so I've been perusing the internet for about nine months. My wife finally talked me into a Navitimer during a recent night out away from the kid. I'd always thought I was buying new, but wasn't happy paying new prices for the versions I liked. Enter Lee.

He sent me a link to Chrono24 listings and for the hell of it, I filtered on manufacture year 2003 - the same year I got married. I found a 50th anniversary edition I really liked, located in Georgia, and reasonably priced (for a Breitling). One missed two-day delivery and a WFH day later, it was in my possession. I had some mild buyer's remorse the day after I bought it, but then I realized I have a bunch of watches, but I've never spent more than $225 on one (excluding the Suunto smartwatch).

I need at least a link for my fatty wrists. I messaged the dealer on Chrono24 to ask if they could source links and they called me within a half hour later, asking I call to confirm the order. I'm supposed to get a call tomorrow before they ship them out. I'm told they're genuine Breitling. My work schedule is bonkers all next week, so hopefully I can walk to the shop I visit near work Friday to get it fitted properly. The real question is whether I ask the wife to wrap it up for Christmas Day.

Absolutely stunning buy man. I love the added touches of that edition, especially the logo change and red "50th Anniversary". Even the hands are starting to develop a nice patina already!

I may have something in the works in the near future. Not a Breitling but also a chronograph Wink

RE: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 12-24-2018

I need links. It's a bitch to get links for a 15 year old watch. In the meantime, I got impatient and ordered a Breitling black crocodile strap. My dumbass wasn't paying attention, because I thought I got a good deal, and I managed to get one with no clasp. Soooo... now a Breitling 20 mm clasp is on order. The best part is I didn't notice there was no clasp until after I put the strap on.  Cool

The links are not returnable, despite ordered via authorized dealer, so I have to order one, wait a few weeks, get it installed, and then decide if I want to wait a few more weeks for another link. I'll wear this thing at some point.

Congrats on that Breitling Mr Derecola, it's gorgeous. Not sure I should follow the Breitling with a piddly lil Seiko.

But I received my first "real" watch as a gift today for Christmas.

Its a Seiko 5 auto (SRPB91)  I saw it, asked the consortium, and they approved.  I like the simplicity, and the 4R movement is pretty nice.  [Image: 1468e283b76156ef8cf91f86dbca27f1.jpg]

I've only ever owned cheap Fossil watches and g shocks. Plus my smart watches.  And even though this is nothing crazy or special at a few hundred bucks MSRP, you can still tell the build quality is there. So I can only imagine the quality on a 4-5 figure watch.

I am really digging its simplicity on the outside, yet complex guts.

I need to get the bracelet fitted. But conveniently I had ordered some 22mm bands from Barton for my other aquisition.

A Fossil Hybrid (insert haterade).

Luckily, they arrived a day early, and I'd highly recommend these bands over the clockwork synergy stuff. I decided to try out the Elite Silicone band (with black hardware) and I'm happy with the results. I also snagged a black Nato, and black canvas band.

But anyways, hope you guys will have me in your cool kids club now.

Dat LUME....

RE: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 12-26-2018

I think you just hurt Lee's heart saying the words, "piddly little Seiko." Except for the Breitling and my gift Carrera, all my watches non-smartwatches were under $200.

I looked at some of those analog smart watches and really, really wanted to like them... but didn't. I realized one of the reason I'd wear a smart watch was for phone notifications, including who was sending me a message or calling. Without that, it was just a watch that wouldn't be charged when I wanted to wear it.

I have important contacts calls/texts assigned to a specific #. Wife calls/texts, both hands align to 1, parents 2. You can assign Up to 6 apps or contacts to a #.

Fossil has the hybrid smart watch thing figured out.

I say piddly Seiko when compared to your Breitling.

Im so hooked, I cant stop stairing at the second hand.

Wink  Every watch has its place!  Even smart watches, (which is in the trash)

I might have something sexy incoming too.....  Cool

Secret santa christmas gift was a winner.  Skagen is pretty good value for the money, I think.

Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 01-04-2019

With the sale of my Nixon I wanted another everyday watch/ruggedish. Thought about another smart watch.....then a Suunto Core, then a Pro Trek 3100, and for shits I checked some Luminox watches.

I've always liked Luminox watches for the tacticoolness of em plus radioactive lume.

So started looking into them and decided that was the route is take.

Was gonna get a 30XX series, Colormark "Navy Seal" which is their entry level watch.

Then I found these 88XX Recon series watches in my range on Chrono24 and a reputable seller on Ebay.

There are 2 in the Recon series, a "Pointman", and the "NAV SPC (Navigational Specialist)".

Swiss Quartz, Sapphire, carbon case.

I decided on the NAV SPC, cause it has a 2nd time zone hand, which points to the 24hr time on the outer bezel, and some other cool features that I have to figure out how to use. Walking speed scale, countdown zone (green 9-12), etc.

Ordered on Ebay from seller Watchgooroo, and 5 days later, it was waiting on me when I got home today.

I'm digging it....

Alright Bear Grylls...

That night shot of the watch is great. I love how advanced cameras on phones are.

Love it man, tritium is about the coolest thing ever.  I think you can pull off bigger watches than I can.  I used to wear a lot of 42mm+ pieces but now mostly wear smaller ones closer to 40mm.

Except for this one.  I finally pulled the trigger on this to celebrate a good year at work.  I was able to source one through the same contact that found my GMT II so I got it for about half MSRP brand new in box with stamped warranty card, and I sold a few pieces at a tidy profit to help fund about half of that.

The history of the Speedy Pro is a really cool one, I won't get into it here but you can read more about it on this Hodinkee article:  https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/understanding-the-omega-speedmaster-professional

There are literally a million versions of the Speedmaster (as they release like 2 special editions a year) but I chose the one that has stayed pretty much the same since they were worn on the moon walks.  Manual wound, hesalite crystal to reduce the chance for shattering (bad in space).  Absolutely stunning watch.  The box set it came with is incredible, dare I say much, much nicer than the boxes my Rolex came in.  It came with bracelet and two straps, a changing tool, a few sets of springbars, a loupe that looks like the tach bezel and a bunch of literature with shots from the Omega archives of some of the moon walks where it was worn.

This one is getting a LOT of wrist time lately  Big Grin I've got a guy making a custom leather strap for it, the same one who made the strap for my vintage 6309 Seiko. You can check out pics of that one on my IG

Sooo nice -  was just at the mall today and was gawking at this exact case and stuff through the window. One day...
