Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 01-30-2015

Generally looks OK but that rear quarter panel is ridiculous looking. Like, 10-11o'clock from the rear wheel in the picture you posted of the black one. Still can't figure out why they aren't trying to fill the s2k hole

funny, i love that panel line. gives a sense of rear end kickup and follows the beltline crease in front of the rear haunches.

miatas have always been more accessible, liveable, and cheap by being less hardcore (why it always outsells other sportscars), and because the miata roots were never about power, it was about doing more with less.

plus, don't forget the mazdaspeed version will address the real hardcore crowd. give it a year or two.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 01-30-2015

 That R&T review had me salivating. And damn in that darker red.

Dat Velocity Red MSM in the background though:

Can I have both?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 01-31-2015

For real with the Jetsons antenna though? Come on even the mommy mobiles come equipped with shark fun antennas now

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 01-31-2015

Nowhere to put a shark fin that wouldn't block the 3rd brake light. Now that could and probably should have been moved to the back of the trunk unless it needs to be a certain height above the taillights as well as s certain distance within the rear window. they really need a hidden antenna. If bmw could do it in the 90's, surely Mazda can do it 20 years later

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 02-02-2015

So with the Nissan commercial last night we saw the first glimpse of the GTR LM Nismo car. A front engine, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, LMP1 car. This should be interesting.

It's rear-wheel drive. If it were front-wheel drive it would officially be the most retarded race car in motorsports history. Nice to see something different though. There hasn't been a front-engine LMP in a LONG time.

It's not RWD. It's front engine, FWD. The energy recovery system can power either the front or rear depending on where it needs power.

Quote:MP1 program Team Principal Ben Bowlby explains how it works in a Nissan Q&A:

The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO is in automotive-speak a front-engined, front-wheel-drive car. The internal combustion engine drives the front wheels, and the energy recovery system harvests energy from the front wheels. We've used the relatively low-powered internal combustion engine to drive the front wheels, and then we add power from the ERS to augment acceleration.

Allow me to correct myself:

Re: Automotive News Discussion - BLINGMW - 02-02-2015

that's pretty wild.... I could see it making sense if the electric system can put down even more to the rear, then it can do whatever it needs to in transitions and on straights the FWD is always there, which is fine. :dunno:
Hey, after making the batmobile work with those bicycle tires, Nissan is ok in my book

Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 02-02-2015

Yay, a FWD flying penis!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 02-02-2015

apparently its basically FWD/AWD and it all revolves around how much more aero boost they got out of the front engine packaging. the rear tires are skinnier than the fronts!

...so, it has come to this

Re: Automotive News Discussion - BLINGMW - 02-02-2015

Somone at Nissan apparently has no respect for convention. The only bad part is that if they're successful, people will think FWD is acceptable.
I'd like to see them finish top 5 in something like this

Work? Sure it worked, it gets more attention than all of it's counterpoints, breaks almost immediately and drives pretty fast for what it is.

Nissan has found that instead of investing money in just another "LMP" car to maybe get some headlines for advertising, that producing something that doesn't work, breaks, and "keeps up enough to not be kicked out" is a better marketing gimmick. Think how much more we have hard about Nissan and their (well not theirs anymore twice removed) Delta Wing than Ganassi or the Taylor brothers or the like that actually win?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JustinG - 02-02-2015

Yea the Delta Wing is a joke, I don't think it has ever finished a race. But people like to stare at it and take pictures while it sits in the garage.

For instance this year, Qualified P4, out after the 2nd hour in the Rolex 24 due to transmission issues......you guys left the spare in your other trailer?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 02-03-2015

The new Ford Focus RS was revealed early this morning. The important parts are 320 hp - 6 speed manual - torque vectoring AWD. No word on the weight or pricing yet, but so far it looks like it's going to be a hit.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://jalopnik.com/2016-ford-focus-rs-this-is-your-320-hp-awd-monster-ha-1683323602">http://jalopnik.com/2016-ford-focus-rs- ... 1683323602</a><!-- m -->

Edit: Actually sounds like Jalopnik made up the 320 hp number. The official statement is "well in excess of 315 hp". Sounds like that will end up being more than 320.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 02-03-2015

I'm sorry, thats awful. Sure it will be fast but its going to be $40k and its fucking ugly. The Side & 3/4 views are ok, but catfish face and the interior looks like it cant decide which way its going. Angles and lines all over the place, too many things bumping out of the dash, and that steering wheel & shifter trim looks like it came out of the 80's.

Edit: how do you even see those tiny little gauges parked on top of the dash in the center?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 02-03-2015

Eh I really don't care about interior looks at all. None of them are that great until you get into supercar territory.
