Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 07-24-2013 chromecast does require app support, so you cant just mirror your screen onto your tv unfortunately. Ill pick one up if a couple apps that i use like hbo go, pluralsight, amazon, and fios streaming add support. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 07-24-2013 Don't most TVs allow you to stream natively these days anyway? I don't mean apps within your TV, but just streaming content. edit: Now that I think about it, that's just content that lives on the device, not online content. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 07-24-2013 Ordered it from amazon. No tax and prime shipping. $35, if it sucks oh well, not out much. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 07-24-2013 most tvs do have internet apps that let you stream from content services, as well as local network DLNA content. i guess the biggest draw to this is that you control it with your tablet instead of navigating a clunky interface with your remote? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 07-24-2013 Yeah I was about to say, don't a lot of new TVs have all of these apps and Wifi built in? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 07-24-2013 I don't have any smart TVs in my house. Does that make me poor? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 07-24-2013 ok its on amazon now, ill bite. dammit I keep buying more Google Advertising Delivery and Personal Data Collection™ devices. FWIW, the native aps on my Bravia are terrible and I try to avoid them at all costs. Nothing beats a long-ass HDMI cable! Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - HAULN-SS - 07-24-2013 I guess you guys missed WiDi? http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ ... splay.html Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 07-24-2013 JPolen01 Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Nothing beats a long-ass HDMI cable!Except something that does it wirelessly across all devices (assuming you aren't solely mirroring your screen/extended desktop) a the time. Not if it requires app support to do it. It doesn't look like it supports playing local content, which most of mine is. It also doesn't (currently) support HBO GO. :? Am I the only one who thought this would be awesome to stream Netflix/Play or my laptop while on vacation/traveling to the hotels TV? I thought the same thing and sent it to my dad who travels a lot. Not enough to put any money on it, but if it happens, might get work to buy it It really has to do both things good. As a software dev, I'm mostly excited to have a true linux platform to develop mobile shit on, if I choose to do so. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 07-25-2013 This is gonna make me wanna upgrade my TV......I don't think my TV will do the auto input switching or provide enough power so I think ill need to plug it up. My $35 purchase just got way more expensive. |
