rherold9 Wrote:Plan was to drill out some brake lines and the fuel line on the other side. All serious that might be an issue. I'm remember them running right under the seats. Haven't looked in awhile though so could be wrong.

The M3 has some hard lines (fuel, maybe?) running under the driver's side of the car. We were able to just pull them out of the little bracket and have a friend hold them apart while I drilled the hole. Once the hole was drilled, the backing plate sits in place and doesn't bother the lines so clearance isn't an issue - just needed the space for the drill bit to clear.

Thank you for the tip. Will have to keep that in mind. I think mine is the same

Good point. BUT, DRILL ONE HOLE AT A TIME, then remeasure. No matter what, when I drill that first hole, everything shifts so slightly that by the time you are to the last hole, your measurement is off because each 1/32 over 8 holes finally puts you a 1/4 inch off.

This has happened with so many projects I have seen or been a part of

I'm going to have a good friend help that also owns a black Mazda3 in Hburg. He knows his shit 90% of the time if not he figures it out rather quickly or has ideas on how to do things. He has been helpful in the past as well. He has never done any of this but he understands it. Some students have also said they'd help like Lucy, Chip, and Zach so I think we'll get it done and done right

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Gordonovski - 03-22-2016

I'm really bad at math, so when we do this, you can just have me hold shit and drink beer. I'm really great at that.

Oh, and harshly criticize others over something that I have no knowledge.

This is exactly how any install should go. The owner works and everyone else tells them how they are doing it incorrectly.

That usually how it goes

Package supposed to be delivered today. Delivery dude calls and says he can deliver it tomorrow. I made my schedule free today and of course my capstone group wants to meet tomorrow. Then asks where my address is in Harrisonburg. Ummmm...... do they not have access do a basic online direction service like Google Maps?? Then says it will be on a 45 foot semi. Wtf. Then says delivery time between 3-6pm. Give you only a 30 minute heads up. May have to meet somewhere besides my apartment complex you know because he has a fucking semi.

Autopower sent it via Pilot. The cost was $150 for shipping and I have to deal with this?................

Oh and it was delivered to Dulles Airport 2 days ago. Definitely should be delivered today.

Welp it's in. There were no write ups for my car so we just went to town. Started at 430. With breaks we ended at around 2am. Everything was just tedious but not difficult. Definitely could not have done it myself. Needed extra set of hands on most parts.

I removed the rest of my rear interior on Thursday:

Everything out:

Starting to mark holes:

Annoying ass brake/fuel lines. Had to get a bit violent to get a plate behind them:

Holes:

Mallot and punched for the roll bar:

Shit is in. It was like 1:30am at this point so not a lot of pics but whatever:

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 04-02-2016

Well. I don't think I'll be able to make auto-x tomorrow but to say the least it is night and day difference from what I've driven so far. Definitely the best "mod" yet. Can't wait to get this thing on track again...

Best photographer ever.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - droflow - 04-07-2016

So when are we going to cruise 33 and see which mazda takes the cakeWink (obviously you) but for real I really like that you've done so much stuff that the average car enthusiast doesn't normally do to a daily.

Thank you man, I appreciate it. I have done a lot for a DD. Others in this club have done even more though :dunno: . It's obviously not the most comfortable but it is something I can live with to be able to have more fun on the track until I start towing.

As for 33. I may have time after graduation. So after 7th I'd be down for a small cruise up 33. I'm not going balls to the wall though. It's a little risky I've learned and it we are on a street with other cars. Still would push it a bit though regardless. Car is pretty slow in a straight line though so I wouldn't count you out to be able to keep up without a problem.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 04-07-2016

Honestly, you might be near the top in the most that a current student has ever done. You're caged properly and doing HPDE as a student. Not bad.
