Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Apoc - 11-28-2011 Click back 2-3 pages for my thought on OEM vs. Non. Unless you're Lee and you drive all over suburbia, there's no need to update. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - JPolen01 - 11-29-2011 Apoc Wrote:Click back 2-3 pages for my thought on OEM vs. Non.What about major road changes or new roads? New developments or business parks? We just got the ICC in Maryland (Inter County Connector) and that sure as hell won't be on any OEM Nav packs for a while. I don't see how OEM Nav could ever be better unless you start talking voice controls and music storage, but that goes beyond just the nav. :dunno: *Edit* All of you who say aftermarket nav units increase likelihood of theft, are you guys that dumb? Take it down when you aren't using it and store it in the glove box. Do you really need to directions on how to get to the grocery store or autozone? Tons of thefts occured in my area last year because morons left their gps units in the cradles stuck on the dash/windshield. Leaving it up is lazy and stupid. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Apoc - 11-29-2011 Taking it down is a hassle. There have been countless breakins because people saw the ring on the window and knew it meant there was a GPS in the glovebox, so merely taking it down isn't enough... you have to wipe all trace from the window. It's just not worth the trouble when there's a better solution anyway. I've had my OEM for nearly 4 years and I've never felt the need to update. :dunno: Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Evan - 11-29-2011 fuckoff, Im lazy and I leave mine up. So does my wife. 0 breakins so therefore by my own limited anecdotal evidence I prove all of you full of shit! Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - HAULN-SS - 11-29-2011 I'll add to that anecdote. My car was broken into at tysons mall and there was a GPS and a laptop on the same seat. The laptop got stolen, the GPS didn't. Everytime she put it away in the glovebox including the power charger. They proceded to break the window and steal it. I swear someone was doing it just to piss her off. Sorry, I like my integrated Navi, when calls come in or directions, it lowers the volume of music, mine is from 2007 and only once did it not have "the latest maps!". It does get a little confused with tysons/495/66, but that literally changes daily, so maybe ill worry about updating after 10 years when they finally get done, cause itll change 530429305x before then. (and smartphones cant even get it right either, dont fight me on this, ive compared side by side). I also like that I dont have to worry about it being in my field of view, dumb suction cups, small screens, and getting stolen. Dont get me started on smartphone GPS, my friends think they are hot shit when they pull it out when their in my truck with the navi, but then we always end up using my navi. That said, all that convenience is NOT worth $1100 for a proper in-dash. It was worth it to me when I got it a lot cheaper, can install myself, and wanted to watch DVDs, listen to my ipod, hard drive music, and integrate it all. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - CaptainHenreh - 11-29-2011 Why not split the difference and get a double-din in-dash like an AVIC or something? Upgradeable maps, additional integration, hell, even possibilities for custom firmware. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Apoc - 11-29-2011 I learned my lesson with custom shit on my M3. Never again. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - CaptainHenreh - 11-29-2011 Apoc Wrote:I learned my lesson with custom shit on my M3. Never again. C'mon man, A double-din aftermarket radio is hardly "custom shit". Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Apoc - 11-29-2011 That's what they tell you. All of sudden things aren't working the way you expect and it makes you angry every time you get in your car. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - WRXtranceformed - 11-29-2011 Factory navigation is for winners Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Evan - 11-29-2011 yeah if your car takes a double din those aftermarket systems are pretty sweet. (although then arent the thieves just going to steal that?) but most cars have center stacks that are all integrated now. I just use my phone for the once a month i actually need to be guided. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - ScottyB - 11-29-2011 people like Lee are on the road for sales and often in new towns all the time. i'd rather have a nav system guiding me in that case than punching info into a tiny screen on my phone while i'm (hopefully not) driving around. Maybe our young eyes are what's really winning here. These old timers need a bigger screen to see where they are going. Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Mike - 11-29-2011 Ken Wrote:Seriously, how often do you guys need directions? Re: Thoughts on Downgrading? - Evan - 11-29-2011 Ryan T Wrote:beat me to it 8)WRXtranceformed Wrote:If you can navigate in some of the places that I end up driving around without navigation, call yourself Christopher freakin Columbus! |
