well, sorta
I was able to ride around the neighborhood for a good while, didn't want to take it too far from home as its still running on 5 year old MD tags.
It still ran a little rough and would sometimes die if I came to a stop, so I'm thinking the idle could use some adjusting?
anyway - I started to take the carbs off last night, to give them a solid once over. I need to figure out how to disconnect the throttle cables and the.....carb setting bands? at least thats what I think its called - this thin piece of metal that connects the choke lever to both carbs?
anyway - its fun to get dirty with it at least

Alright, so turns out the problems I was experiencing in the last post were mainly do to it not getting enough fuel, and there not being enough fuel in the tank - D'oh
I got it registered a couple weeks ago and have been riding as much as possible since. I even got it out on the highway for a short bit.
Of course its been running alright until I needed it to. Was gonna take it to work on Friday and the battery seemed a little weak (probably from not riding it with all the rain we have been getting) no problem I start to give it a couple kicks to getting it running and all of a sudden the kick start just completely seizes up.
Its acting as if its in gear, when I kick down it tries to roll the bike forward, but its definitely not in gear, I can roll it around just fine with out the clutch in.
any thoughts?

well this has quite the bitter sweet riding season for me.
I almost debated trying to make this decision on my own, until I realized I'm now completely incapable of doing anything without the great and wise opinion of MM :wink:
so long story short - right cylinder is fuxord = no compression
was ballparked $1500 to rebuild the engine.
soooooo do I keep it, maybe see what I can push out of this little bike or just bail and give RJ a new project.
I'm concerned about my ADD with toys (its not as bad as RJ's I know) I would hate to fix it and then in a year or two be ready to move on up, which seems entirely reasonable within the bike world.

If you fixed it and moved up to something else later then absolutely keep it around as a fun commuter/city/errand bike. I really liked my tree-fiddy.

when it comes to motorcycles, "sell it and get what you can" is the best advice i can give. sadly, i poured enough money back into mine that it'd be too painful to let it go in pieces and not running.

I don't know how compatible they are, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could chime in. The engine in this bike wasn't great, but decent. Just a thought. :dunno:

I had another thought tonight and maybe this is just my heart trying to convince my brain to keep it but, all the while I've been browsing clist for bikes, the typical new stuff never reallllly caught my eye (typical sportbikes) nakeds and oldies are the only thing I really like so that leaves little out there so I guess I'm just debating what else could be out there that I would get instead.

i found a clean Shoei helmet in the garbage room at my new place.
I looked it over and didn't see any signs of trauma.
should I assume the previous owner had a good reason to junk it?
I'll probably keep it around for a passenger

a simple drop on the ground may not show signs of trauma, but could be defective. using it is a personal decision though.
with that in mind, it's all up to you on whether you use it or if you give it to someone else to use. i crashed in my current Arai helmet a couple times, but the helmet didn't touch the ground either time - i know this because i remember everything. i choose to still use it.

Thats why I'm debating keeping it at all, I should have clarified and said there were no obvious signs of impact

Hmm, maybe I'll get my Shoei inspected too, it fell off my bike once. Maybe it'll give me an excuse to buy the Valentino replica AGV
