$25k 300hp RWD coupe - Printable Version +- Madison Motorsports (https://forum.mmsports.org) +-- Forum: Madison Motorsports (https://forum.mmsports.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=3) +--- Forum: Lounge (https://forum.mmsports.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=6) +--- Thread: $25k 300hp RWD coupe (/showthread.php?tid=6698) |
- HAULN-SS - 11-13-2007 ^what RJ said. - G.Irish - 11-13-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:Sure, perhaps non enthusiasts will buy them. Like RJ said, why they do the things they do when it comes to cars is a mystery. But, as an enthusiast, if you spend 25k on a new Hyundai instead of a tried and proven used 350Z or even C5 Vette with aftermarket support, theres something wrong with your brains. Prove me wrong in a couple years when you buy one.New vs. used is a bit of spurious argument. The same with the whole modified vs. stock argument. If you want to compare used cars to the Hyundai then wait to compare used against used. Against a new 350Z the Hyundai may not be a great bargain either but that would depend on who is driving it. Maybe someone who wants something reasonably sport and decently fast would just spend $3k to $5k less and go for the Hyundai. Someone who is into track events might buy the Z, or they might say no to both and get a Miata. Just depends on what the goals are. I do think that if Hyundai can keep the weight down that will strengthen their case. But even if not I think it'll find plenty of buyers. If the turbo engine proves to be stout enough to handle plenty mo' boost then it will probably be pretty popular among the tuner crowd. - Goodspeed - 11-13-2007 I'm sorry, I thought Madison Motorsports was composed of enthusiasts. My bad. I personally couldn't give a shit about rear passenger accomodations when I'm looking, as an enthusiast, to buy a RWD, 300hp coupe. If an enthusiast, looking for a performance car, has 25k laying on the table, the one I would deem not braindead would choose the C5 Vette or FD RX7. Performance per dollar, end of story Whatever, I'll be anxiously awaiting the MM throwdown over the new Toyota Land Cruiser...is it better than the Escalade? How much rear cargo area do they have? Whats in store for VW's "new" New Beetle? I can't wait! - .RJ - 11-13-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:I'm sorry, I thought Madison Motorsports was composed of enthusiasts. My bad. Not all enthusiasts are supra sack-swingers. 300hp/RWD coupe seems pretty 'enthusiast' to me, and performance in the same ballpark as a used stock supra :dunno: Goodspeed Wrote:I personally couldn't give a shit about rear passenger accomodations when I'm looking, as an enthusiast, to buy a RWD, 300hp coupe. And some people do. What if you're not a college student, and have a dog, or kids? Not having a back seat in your only car can become a deal breaker. Look a little further past your own nose - not all people want the same things. Goodspeed Wrote:If an enthusiast, looking for a performance car, has 25k laying on the table, the one I would deem not braindead would choose the C5 Vette or FD RX7. Performance per dollar, end of story I cant belive you're comparing a 10 year old car with well documented reliability issues to something brand new with a 10/100 warranty. At least you wont ever be confused with bringing any logic to the table here. Again, you're allowing the badge on the hood to totally dismiss the car from any and all possible considerations along with comparisons to cars that are 5+ years old. Ok, if you dont like it thats fine - we get it already. - Evan - 11-13-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:I'm sorry, I thought Madison Motorsports was composed of enthusiasts. My bad. Can you possibly comprehend that not everyone has the same priorities as you? In fact _most_ people want 4 seats and even 4 doors. Comparing new vs. used isnt even the same sport, you should know this. Every real enthusiast I know knows how to appreciate a vehicle for what it is, and what it is in comparison to its competition. If you cant do that, you're just another stupid fanboy. Take a look at one of your car magazines, and if you can manage to pry the sticky pages apart you will see that even as clueless as the automotive press is, they still evaluate cars according to their intended market and relative performance against similar cars. Personally, I would never pay more than $300 for a overweight 80s boulevard cruiser that handles worse than my truck, but Im not going around calling anyone who drives one braindead. I have a miata that would fuck up your lead-sled supra on a roadcourse. OH SHIT DAWG you're a braindead moron!!!!1 performance per dollar!! - CaptainHenreh - 11-13-2007 If performance per dollar is Goodspeed's bottom line, where's his motorcycle? Oh wait, toyota doesn't make one. - ViPER1313 - 11-13-2007 Id probably spring for the base model 2.0t. At 19.9g thats baller. Nothing else in the new car field comes close (GTI - more cash, FWD || Civic SI - same price or more, FWD || MS3 - more money but price/power ratio right & AWD (closest competitor) || Lancer - lol || RSX - more cash, FWD || Miata - $21k for 166hp). I see the Saturn Sky / Pontiac clone as the most direct competitors, but their turbo motors don't come in at that price point. Combined with good looks and a 10y/100k mile warranty and I don't see the downside. RWD + turbo + 20g sets it in a class by itself. - Maengelito - 11-13-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:toyota SUPRA. goodspeed, go clean your shorts. um, how many threads have i started that praise the greatness of all things supra and how many pictures of them have i put up? Goodspeed Wrote:Seriously now, if you had 25k, would you immediately run to your local Hyundai dealer and put yourself on the list for a new Tiburon or whatever the hell this thing is? Or would you buy a slightly used 350Z and have some money left over for tires or something. um, a used car and a new car are very different things. Goodspeed Wrote:I think the styling looks like ass, the brand name makes me vomit, and the fact of the matter is this: a 300 hp RWD car, new or used, is not uncommon these days, and this car isn't special or revolutionary or exciting or good looking enough to sway me to it or Hyundai i think far more people would think a 20 year old supra is much worse of a buy than this, but this is subjective. not everyone wants what you want, and its pretty apparent that you want what most people don't want. - Goodspeed - 11-13-2007 You people are idiots. You cannot comprehend the idea of In My Opinion. Everything I have said was in my opinion. I wouldn't be seen dead in a Hyundai. And, as I referenced earlier, neither would most of you, but only time will tell. And you bring in zomg Supras, when I didn't mention them once. Way to try and childishly refute my argument and personal viewpoint. Where the fuck do you get off comparing my 20 year old car with a Miata or this god damn Hyundai? Y'all are dumbasses. Automotive magazines examine and review everything to appeal to everyone to sell the most magazines. Every enthusiast has their niche, their corner of the automotive world that they choose to fit in to. If you care, I also have a distaste for most things Honda as well. ZOMG!!! My opinion goes against the others of MM!! Bring on the Supra shit again. - ScottyB - 11-13-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:I'm sorry, I thought Madison Motorsports was composed of enthusiasts. My bad. are you kidding me? any real, true enthusiast can appreciate anything for what it is*. so answer me this - because i bought a lowly 2.5RS instead of a WRX, i'm not really an enthusiast, right? come on man. look, for me, in the real world, sometimes practicality and new car perks take precedence over numbers on paper. as an enthusiast i could have bought a swapped 240Z, an beat-ass Evo, a Vette, an S2k....but i didn't because they won't work for me with what i do. it doesn't make me any less enthusiastic about driving or beating up on badge whores in the autocrosses i go to. *except the aztek - .RJ - 11-13-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:Where the fuck do you get off comparing my 20 year old car with a Miata or this god damn Hyundai? Just sayin. - Goodspeed - 11-13-2007 ScottyB Wrote:look, for me, in the real world..... Thats great, you're saying whats in your opinion. And thats cool, I have all the respect for you if you buy what you want for your needs. But in my opinion, if you're trying to buy a performance sports car, as earlier in this thread it was compared to the 350Z, and you choose this Hyundia over other offerings, you're a dumbass. In my opinion. .RJ Wrote:Where the fuck do you get off comparing a new, not even released yet car with something 10+ years old (FD, C5, etc)? Dont preach apples to apples when you dont do the same. Because thats how every other enthusiast other than and including myself thinks, at least the ones I have met. I think you're missing the point of my argument. Forget new vs. old, warranty, rear leg room, blablabla. I'm approaching this purely from a performance standpoint. Would any enthusiast you know choose this car over a Corvette? - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-13-2007 Shep would buy a dsm over that hyundai - Ginger - 11-13-2007 Don't worry, in a couple of posts he'll have had it with our childish attitudes, not care, and have something far better to do than argue on the internet. - CaptainHenreh - 11-13-2007 asteele2 Wrote:Don't worry, in a couple of posts he'll have had it with our childish attitudes, not care, and have something far better to do than argue on the internet. I'm glad we could have this heated debate in the middle of the work day. Now get back to your TPS reports everyone! |
