- BLINGMW - 08-01-2007 A lot of cars are dumb then apparently. Fortunately, there are a lot of people, myself included, that like "dumb" cars. I, for one, own and track them. So do some other folks here. My wife has dumb car that is our daily driver and is super fun to drive around town. Almost all the cars I've owned have been that dumb. So dumb. (I too like the avatar Goodspeed  ) - .RJ - 08-01-2007 No dumber than tracking a lunchbox. - HAULN-SS - 08-01-2007 All i'm saying is it's nothing to make your panties bunch up, fellas. I could save up another 6 grand or so and cut that number in half by getting a 2004 GTO. RWD, coupe, way more power. Yeah, it's 1/2 the cost over again, and not brand new, but still can be had for cheap. - .RJ - 08-01-2007 But... its more expensive, not brand new, and weighs 4,000 lbs. Oranges to Kumquats. - Jeff - 08-01-2007 There is way too much comparing things that don't compare and poop watching going on on MM today. - Goodspeed - 08-01-2007 I think this picture perfectly sums up how everyone in this thread feels about everyone else ![]() - BLINGMW - 08-01-2007 .RJ Wrote:But... its more expensive, not brand new, and weighs 4,000 lbs. Continuing my rant (I have nothing better to do). You know what I think is dumb? In a world with finite resources and pollution problems, we have an apparent majority of US consumers who's ideal vehicle would be an Abrams Tank with 10,000 HP, Barcaloungers for seats, an internet connection and flat screen TV. It would be really cheap and sold at Walmart dealerships, reliability would be horrible, but you just throw it away when the warranty period is up and get another one. So automakers stick with the "more is better" mantra and continue adding more weight and HP with every iteration, slowly working to build the ultimate US consumer's dream car! Hooray for suckin gas and haulin ass! :| - .RJ - 08-01-2007 I prefer my Canyonero, thank you  - CaptainHenreh - 08-01-2007 Evan Wrote:RJ is the new Derek who is the new Feerst. Those Japanese rumor mags are the same ones who have been predicting a "New" RX-7 since, well, 2002. All their "pictures" are artists renditions and it's all complete bullshit. When I see a press release from toyota saying "We think we maybe might just have explored the possibility of maybe growing balls", THEN we can talk about this. UNTIL THEN, as I have always said, fuck toyota. - Andy - 08-01-2007 BLINGMW Wrote:.RJ Wrote:But... its more expensive, not brand new, and weighs 4,000 lbs. Brilliant. Channing for president. - BLINGMW - 08-01-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:it's all complete bullshit hmmm... very saddened by this. Scotty, you're back on the clock. - HAULN-SS - 08-01-2007 Btw, I looked up the weight for the GTO before I made my post, and the numbers I found said 3275lbs - BLINGMW - 08-01-2007 swap the middle two numbers. It's 3725. ![]() - HAULN-SS - 08-01-2007 well, either way, that's still 9lb/hp...not bad - Ryan T - 08-01-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:Btw, I looked up the weight for the GTO before I made my post, and the numbers I found said 3275lbs You've got your 2 and 7 mixed up. The curb weight for the GTO is 3725lbs, nit 3275. Also, the reason I think the GTO failed is because it looks just like a grand prix. - Ginger - 08-01-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:well, either way, that's still 9lb/hp...not bad And that's what makes a good car, right? - HAULN-SS - 08-02-2007 Isn't that what this toyota is shooting for? And I dont know if it's what makes a good car, but it's one of the first steps in making a car quicker. - WRXtranceformed - 08-02-2007 BLINGMW Wrote:an Abrams Tank with 10,000 HP, Barcaloungers for seats, an internet connection and flat screen TVThis would actually be my ideal commuter vehicle! BLINGMW Wrote:Hooray for suckin gas and haulin ass!I actually couldn't agree more on that...even though you were being facetious ![]() The irony is that the true performance cars that are coming out are increasing horsepower AND decreasing weight. It's only the intermediate price point "performance" cars that automakers aren't even bothering to weight reduce. I agree with you that light, underpowered cars are not what most Americans want right now. - Ryan T - 08-02-2007 http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/01/rumo ... e-details/ Within days of announcing Toyota's formation of a "Committee to create interesting cars," this summer's Best Car Plus magazine reveals that the long-rumoured new AE86 type car has indeed been spawned by the group and should be in showrooms in the winter of 2008. The new article goes into some detail of the new car's spec. Under 4m long and 1.7m wide, it's pretty low at 1.35m tall, and engineers have been directed to keep weight below 1,000kgs. Power will come from a 1.5L 2NZ-FE good for 120 horsepower. What has been unknown until this time is where Toyota would source a cheap RWD drivetrain, but Best Car has learned that it will come from new partner Fuji Heavy Industries - better known to you and me as Subaru. And the best news of all? The committee's final directive is to keep the new car's sticker price below 1.5million Yen. That's about $12,300 USD in today's money. ![]() I would consider buying one at that price....and then putting a 2jz-gte in it ![]() - Goodspeed - 08-02-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:When I see a press release from toyota saying "We think we maybe might just have explored the possibility of maybe growing balls", THEN we can talk about this. Toyota has formed a committee called "Making interesting cars" or something like that, I'm serious...thats where this AE86 idea came from. They realized that their lineup sucks finally.
