- Ginger - 11-01-2007 Getting back on topic, I could pretty much guarantee you'll need reciepts for "performance/aftermarket parts" added to your vehicle for increased value. Not requiring reciepts creates a Moral Hazard and provides incentive for people with low value cars to over insure them based on "performance/aftermarket" provisions and help the cars to disappear. The simple fact that you're paying for increased coverage doesn't necessarily mean that an insurnace company will just cut you a check. To my understanding, there are exceptions to the above. In the case of cars that have a high value in man hours there are special policies (I've never looked into them, but I believe they're usually from special insurnace companies) available. In those policies an agent will meet with the insured to asses an agreed upon value. Insurance is as "As You Were" business, so they'll want evidence of what was... they're not in the business of making people better off. - .RJ - 11-01-2007 asteele2 Wrote:Not requiring reciepts creates a Moral Hazard and provides incentive for people with low value cars to over insure them based on "performance/aftermarket" provisions and help the cars to disappear How is that different from insuring a car thats worth more money? You pay a premium based on a number of factors, including the replacement cost of the vehicle. - Evan - 11-01-2007 andrew they increase your premiums based on the value of the car. no different from driving a car worth $10k more than the one you insure. although im sure they have some kind of algorithm that calculates a modified car's higher risk of theft. - WRXtranceformed - 11-01-2007 Evan Wrote:andrew they increase your premiums based on the value of the car. Not to mention another that calculates the car's higher risk of going a lot faster. Why else do you put performance parts on a car after all? - WRXtranceformed - 11-01-2007 I just got a call from Allstate, they were following up with the renewal package I was sent and wanted to make sure I had looked it over to see if there were any other discounts I could get. I'm very impressed with their customer service so far, we'll see how impressed I remain if I ever need to use them for a claim  - Ginger - 11-01-2007 .RJ Wrote:How is that different from insuring a car thats worth more money? You pay a premium based on a number of factors, including the replacement cost of the vehicle. It's different because you effectively artifically create value by over insuring. You also definitively own the more expensive car, Kaan, for example, definitively does not have 10K in the CRX. Evan Wrote:andrew they increase your premiums based on the value of the car. I know they increase the premium based on vehicle value. It's also highly based on purpose, typical behavior of other owners, and blah blah. I didn't realize everybody thought I was dumb. I think that it is different from owning a more expensive vehicle (see response to RJ above). Moral hazard stll stands. *ninja edit* receipts are a good tool for combating said hazard. - .RJ - 11-01-2007 asteele2 Wrote:It's different because you effectively artifically create value by over insuring As long as you are paying the increase premium for the increased value (whether real, perceived or artificial) are there any risks/implications from that? Quote:Kaan, for example, definitively does not have 10K in the CRX. I dunno, all those engine swaps are adding up
