So you're signed up for the Halo 3 multiplayer beta? I'd really like to give that a go, but I can definitely wait until the game comes out to play it.

- drivesideways46 - 03-30-2007

I didn't think this was worthy of its own thread, but have any of you guys been following Forza Motorsport 2? It gets released on May 15th, and I'm soooo looking forward to this one!

Here's a 26 min long video presentation on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKSU9Hdv-ro

If you're all geeked about the new features, by all means watch the whole thing. If you want to see a car on track, start at about 14:40.

The real-time telemetry looks very interesting, and I'm all about the new more realistic damage system.

- PDenbigh - 03-30-2007

Chad and I have been playing around with GTR2 and he's found soem really cool real-time telemerty stuff. Plus, we've downloaded VIR and WGI tracks. For $20 or whatever the low price is for GTR2 now, it's a heck of a racing sim.

Werd, I'm done w/ consoles. Sure they are easy to use, insert CD/DVD push button but the stuff you can do w/ a PC game is light years ahead. Yea the system cost more (well, not much more w/ the prices of XBOX/PS3 these days). The fact I don't have to 'win' money to unlock the cars/tracks I want to race on is the #1 selling point for me (unlike tEaMfOrzA or whatever it was). I paid for a damn game why do I have to spend hours and hours I don't have in order to unlock the damn thing. I just want to drive and punt Pete in the Uphill SS' of WGI.

GTR2 is a quantum leap ahead of Forza and I'm going to go out on a limb and say the same will be true for Forza2. With the proper CPU/Graphics card GTR2 has all the eye candy one could ask for. Oh and you can get MUCH better wheels for the PC.

GTR2 is current in development for 360.

Addons for PC games are MUCH easier to install, new car, tracks, want better graphics install a better graphics card. I'm not going to get into a console/PC platform war with you or anyone else on here. That's a topic that has been beat to death by hundreds of people over the years. The simple fact that Sony/MS/Nintendo keep pumping out these damn consoles every few years and attempt to charge what they do for them, then charge what they do for games has TOTALLY turned me off to consoles. The ONLY reason I bought an XBOX was for Forza and I was pretty disappointed. I had more fun playing the $5 burger king games than I did Forza.

- Mike - 03-30-2007

addons are easier to install? 360 games work in one of two ways:

1) they have a download button in the game menu. it lists all available car/track addons.
2) i go in to the xbox marketplace and download them.

next time i start the game? bam, they are there. i was a pc-boy all my life and never witnessed anything as easy as the 360.

How do you install your own custom addons? Can you develop your own tracks/cars for Forza? Maybe 360 makes it a little easier, the original XBOX, no way.

Download ZIP, unzip to directory isn't all that hard either, people do it every day in the PC world...

you can create tracks and paintjobs that the world can use. yes, the 360 is vastly different than the original... incredible, eh?

correct, that process isn't hard, but you said it is easier; it is not.

It's easier for me, since I already know how to unzip. Every time a console comes out it's suppose to be 'better' in some way, every time I'm disappointed. I'm done throwing $$$ away.

- Mike - 03-30-2007

Funny, I feel the exact opposite Smile The 360 is one of the best gaming purchases I've ever made, and I've been playing PC games since I was like 5.

Mike Wrote:Funny, I feel the exact opposite Smile The 360 is one of the best gaming purchases I've ever made, and I've been playing PC games since I was like 5.

Good for you, must be why they still sell them then
I've been playing both since I was like 8, now that I can afford to build a decent PC gaming rig or two, I'm a PC game fanboy. Screw a console, I can upgrade what and when as I feel.

- Apoc - 03-30-2007

I've been playing since I was 2 and I like both venues.

- WRXtranceformed - 03-30-2007

I'm the opposite, I've officially given up on PC gaming. There are some amazing games out for the PC, but it's really annoying to have to constantly upgrade it to get the most out of each game. Plus, PCs just tend to go downhill constantly in reliability and speed, whereas my 360 is as fast as it was the day I bought it. The fact that the 360 connects to XBOX Live like Mike said allows you to download patches to every game you own, play with people across the world like you can on a PC, etc. etc.

Every time a new game came out on the PC I always felt like I had to spend a couple hundred bucks to upgrade the hardware to make it look / play as good / fast as it should. With every game that I've bought that has come out for the 360, I have been blown away by the speed, quality of graphics, and playability (XBOX Live).

- HAULN-SS - 03-30-2007

quit getting pr0n virii on your computer, and it'll be just as fast as the day you bought it too

WRXtranceformed Wrote:There are some amazing games out for the PC, but it's really annoying to have to constantly upgrade it to get the most out of each game.

Well you're either upgrading to get the most from constantly evolving games or you're stuck with games that are designed for a static platform. You upgrade piecemail or all at once when a new consome comes out. It's a win/lose either route you choose.

- WRXtranceformed - 03-31-2007

Well, as an example, there might be one game that comes out every 6 months - 1 year on the PC that requires or makes me want to do an upgrade to my hardware, whereas there are 10 games that come out every 6 months that make me happy that I bought a 360. Give me another 4 months and I'll let you know if the yearly investment is worth it ; )

Don't most of the console makers take a hit on the console and only make money on games? If that is the case it is in their best interest to keep throwing games at the system. Also, because a consoles hardware is "static" I would say it would be easier for other game companies to keep devoloping and improving games. whereas with a pc, the hardware is much more "fluid". I would think it is easier to keep making games when you the hardware will be the same for a good number of years (how long was xbox around before 360 came out) versus making games in an environment where the technology is constantly changing.

- WRXtranceformed - 03-31-2007

Exactly. That's basically the science behind what I said.

- Goodspeed - 03-31-2007

Well now I'm glad I've waited to get my 360, I'll just get the black 360 Elite Smile

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/776/776448p1.html

March 27, 2007 - In what appears to be Microsoft's standard cart-before-the-horse style of information delivery, the leading console manufacturer of this generation confirmed nearly all of the rumors preceding today's announcement of the new black, HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 Elite.

Dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite (not the "Zephyr" as had been rumored), the new black, $479.99 Xbox 360 comes bundled with a 120GB hard drive, has an HDMI port, and will ship to the US and Canada Sunday, April 29, 2007, Microsoft told IGN today in an interview over the phone.
The new "Elite" console contains the same parts, processors and chips as the Core and Pro units, and has the same dimensions, only it's got an HDMI port on its back-side (in addition to the standard RGB port) and comes with a 120GB hard disc drive (HDD), cables and headset, all in black.

"And for a unit that's got twice the hard drive storage space as the PS3, comes with an HDMI cable, an Ethernet cable and a headset, it's still $120 cheaper than the $599.99 high-end PlayStation 3," said Albert Penello, Microsoft's director of global platform marketing.

A standalone $179.99 HDD also ships April 29. This package includes one 120GB HDD, software, and a specialized cable to port data from a user's current hard drive to the new one. To complement the new black console, Microsoft will also ship a wireless black controller (MSRP $49.99), a black Play and Charge Kit ($19.99), and a standalone rechargeable battery pack ($11.99) on April 29, also in black.

"The Elite is not a limited edition. It's permanent. And we will not replace any sku," Penello explained when referring to the flurry of rumors preceeding the official announcement. "We now have three SKUs and we predict the primary seller will continue to be the Pro system."

Penello also addressed concerns the new bigger hard drive might lead game developers to require it as a standard. "We won't force experiences that require the new HDD. Games will still be optimized around the 20GB experience. Nobody will be forced to buy a new drive."

Microsoft has no plans to offer rebates, discounts, or free trade-ins for loyal early adopters. When asked how he thought gamers would respond to the new higher-priced addition, Penello said, "I think and hope that people are going to understand. There is as price for being an early adopter and your points and feelings are valid (Penello said when referring to gamers IGN suggested would be angry about the new system). But whenever you innovate and change, you have to face this situation. Your same old system is still perfectly valid. Think about it this way, it's a new bundle that comes with a bigger hard drive."

When IGN asked why the launch system didn't come with a larger hard drive and an HDMI port, Penello explained: "We could never have done this before, to bring HMDI and 120 GB to the system when we launched in 2005. The reason we didn't do it before was because the HDMI standard wasn't complete. It takes time to develop these things. We started the console earlier than Sony did and when the HDMI standard wasn't done. At the time we were developing, this stuff was in transition."

IGN suggested to Penello that gamers might become skeptical about buying an Xbox 360 because of the introduction to this new system. Many gamers are already skeptical the existing systems aren't reliable, as they have witnessed countless stories of broken 360s only one and a half years since the launch in November 2005. Why should they buy a new system now, if for some new reason, Microsoft decides to create a new system a year and a half from now?

"Should we just ignore new technology? Or listen to the input we hear from gamers and address it? If some new technology comes out, I'm going to have to look at that. We're trying something new."
