- Evan - 10-29-2007 not a sore looser, we got our asses kicked. I still would have like to have seen shawn tailor fuck some shit up. - Andy - 10-29-2007 I love the skins as much as anyone but they got handled. The pats look a lot like the Niners in the early nineties with Montana. - Hunter - 10-29-2007 Evan Wrote:not a sore looser, we got our asses kicked. You're right, we did get our asses kicked. But, if they're still throwing it on 4th down and completing passes to randy moss on our 4th string CB while winning 38-0... they deserved to be knocked around. The way they finished that game was disrespectful and classless. There is no BCS ranking that factors in margin of victory, so there was no need to run up the score like that. - Apoc - 10-29-2007 Evan Wrote:not a sore looser I know... I said loser, not looser. Hunter Wrote:There is no BCS ranking that factors in margin of victory, so there was no need to run up the score like that. It's called the record book. The only reason I really say anything is because I heard people on the radio saying it was the Cowboys job to stop them when people mentioned that the Pats were running up the score on them. IMO, if you can score, go ahead and score... I don't care who you're playing. - damnit458 - 10-29-2007 Apoc Wrote:The only reason I really say anything is because I heard people on the radio saying it was the Cowboys job to stop them when people mentioned that the Pats were running up the score on them. While I really don't doubt that they were running up the score, if you care about it that much do something about it (redskins obviously, not their fans). They've been doing this for weeks so it's not really something new. I personally think the colts will beat them. NE has played a lot easier schedule thus far than the colts. If that happened that would completely make my day =). - Maengelito - 10-29-2007 Apoc Wrote:The only reason I really say anything is because I heard people on the radio saying it was the Cowboys job to stop them when people mentioned that the Pats were running up the score on them. IMO, if you can score, go ahead and score... I don't care who you're playing. fundamentally, i agree, but i have a few issues with this specific scenario. 1) sportsmanship is important, especially with the NFL this year really coming down on players for taunting, celebrating, etc. its no secret that the NFL is very worried about their image. the pats did get caught cheating in week 1, you'd think they'd wanna help their image as being fair. 2) going for it on 4th down is something that teams will do if they're down with little time remaining, or if they're in that grey area thats too short for punts or too long for field goals, not when they're on the 5 yard line and up 40 points. kicking a field goal there is gauranteed points. 3) passing when you're up is also not good because incomplete passes stop the clock and theres a chance of interceptions. this is why teams normally just run the ball up the middle when they're up big. 4) leaving your starters in to do this increases the chance of injury to your starters. there's no point in sacrificing the rest of your season when the game is essentially over. if you leave them in, just take a knee and run out the clock. i hate how everyone is drinking the new england kool aid and is all up their ass. if any other team had done this, there'd be all sorts of backlash on how it was unsportsmanlike for them to run up the score like that, but not with tom brady because he's captain america and perfect in every way. Evan Wrote:And after NE started going for it on 4th down when up 38 points I REALLY wish Greg W. would have sent Shawn Taylor in to fuck up Brady every play late hit or not. maybe buddy ryan was on to something... - JohnC - 10-29-2007 Maengelito Wrote:the pats did get caught cheating in week 1, you'd think they'd wanna help their image as being fair. I think they're out to say "Fine, you caught us cheating. Here's what we can do without cheating. F*ck all of you." And I'm also not upset in the least about them running up the score. This is the NFL - if a team wants to risk its starters and play for points, and the opposing team isn't doing a damn thing to stop them, then lets see how many digits that scoreboard can handle... Its up to the rest of the league to play the Pats tougher, all game long. - Hunter - 10-29-2007 The problem with the way they're doing it is that it makes people mad. (example: this thread) Sooner or later some DE is going to take a bad cheapshot on brady and it may not be pretty. It's kinda like how the NHL polices itself and every team has it's own resident thug. - Apoc - 10-29-2007 Look at it from the other side... maybe they went for it on 4th in hopes the Skins could actually stop them and get the ball. I mean, to me, kicking the "sure fire" FG would be running up the score. - Evan - 10-29-2007 Apoc Wrote:It's called the record book.another reason that the pat's "records" mean very little IMO. Not only have they cheated to get them, but the record holders of the past have broken those records while still having the sportsmanship to not run up scores. IMO, if you can score, go ahead and score... I don't care who you're playing. The redskins radio hosts like Brian Mitchell have said the same thing, and I agree. Im not going to whine that a team ran the score up on us, thats pretty lame. But one reason you pull your top QB and players in a blowout is to keep them from getting hurt. It would have been fitting to give Brady a nice pop to remind Billicheck this. - Maengelito - 10-29-2007 JohnC Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:the pats did get caught cheating in week 1, you'd think they'd wanna help their image as being fair. this is under the assumption that they've stopped cheating. at the risk of sounding like dennis green, you play to win. at this point, you've won the game. throwing more passes only means that you wanna run up the score, not necessarily just win. just run the ball up the gut and keep the clock going until the game is over. if that team wants to keep its starters in and run up the score, you should absolutely resort to the lowest common denominator and take cheap shots on pretty boy to teach them a lesson on what being a jackass is really like. - Apoc - 10-29-2007 Well... they did pull them after they scored 45 points. Heck, I think they even had their 3rd stringer in there for a series. Maengelito Wrote:if that team wants to keep its starters in and run up the score, you should absolutely resort to the lowest common denominator and take cheap shots on pretty boy to teach them a lesson on what being a jackass is really like. That's pretty weak Maeng. Meeting unsportsmanlike conduct with more of it is defnitely the way to go. - Maengelito - 10-29-2007 well, the current way of doing business is obviously working so well - REED - 10-29-2007 It looks like I'm the only NE fan here (and before we go there, I've a fan my whole life) but what is this Pop Warner football - running up the score? uh oh, you guys should had better put a limit on baseball too - winning 13 - 1 isn't fair. even Gibbs said it "its our job to stop them, we didn't do that" - HAULN-SS - 10-29-2007 JohnC Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:the pats did get caught cheating in week 1, you'd think they'd wanna help their image as being fair. bingo! - Maengelito - 10-30-2007 REED Wrote:It looks like I'm the only NE fan here (and before we go there, I've a fan my whole life) but what is this Pop Warner football - running up the score? uh oh, you guys should had better put a limit on baseball too - winning 13 - 1 isn't fair. its not pop warner, these are professionals, we hold them to a higher standard. if any qb deserves a retarded kid, brady should be next on the list. as for gibbs, he didnt publicly state he had a problem at the post game conference, but his expressions while this was goin on was pretty clear. the baseball analogy is lost on me, but if a team was up 13-1 and was still stealing bases, putting on the hit and run, intentionally walking players in the late innings, then yeah i'd have a problem with it. - CaptainHenreh - 10-30-2007 Anybody who's ever talked to me about football knows how much I despise, hate, and loathe Tom Mother Fucking Brady. But that didn't stop me from snatching him up as my first draft pick on my (and Julie's) fantasy football league and well would you look at that...we're #1 Big Chief Badass in our league. As in, 6 & 2 and the most points year to date in the league. I attribute this almost directly to Tom Brady. Whom I hate. So whatever, hate Tom Brady if you want to, but you have to respect him and his team. You don't get that good by accident. - Apoc - 10-30-2007 Every league I'm in and have talked to people about, the #1 team has Brady. I bet all those people love he stays in to score 40+ points. Maybe he's thinking of all the fantasy players that drafted him? |
