Overwatch and I just started playing Diablo 3 again for the new season/character yesterday. I haven't played CS:GO in a while, but I'm sure I'll get back into that at some point. I also have Battlefield 1, but I stopped playing that after I bought Overwatch. BF1 just ends up pissing me off.

Happens to me as well as I wish I would win more. The last games I played last night I was 1st on the team leaderboard like 7 out of 10 games on Frontlines/Rush. 90% of the time I'm top 5 every game.
Overwatch gets boring too me but I'll play it with friends. Used to be decent at it but not great. I'll add you on Battle.net with your ID mentioned earlier tonight.

I got Player UNknown battleground the other day. Its taking me some time to get used to 3rd person shooter, but the concept is fun. Especially in duo or higher mode.

I would also be interested, I pretty much stopped playing again because I get minimum frames per second and in a race the car handling changes in a crowd. Very frustrating...

They plan on making first person servers and that's when I'll be buying it.

Alright boys, it's time. Let's build me a computer.
Budget <$1000, the cheaper, the better. I don't need a "rig".
I want to be able to play some games on my computer like modern AAA titles but it doesn't need to be full on Crysis 3 on Ultra.
I definitely want to be able to edit video effectively. Doing my GoPro videos on this laptop is a nightmare.
Nothing too fancy, but something I can upgrade over time. Also need to factor in a monitor and a nice keyboard as well.
Thoughts on buying a pre-built one? I don't really care (or have the time) to build one if the prices are comparable.

Check out reddit.com/r/buildapc and pcpartpicker.com. There should be a ton of builds there that will be a good starting point.
I'd probably shoot for whatever the high end Intel i5 is at the moment with a nvidia gtx1070. Graphics card prices are kind of stupid right now due to another cryptocurrency craze.
You could also try out AMD's new lineup of processors (ryzen). They're supposed to be almost as good as Intel for gaming, but better for other things like video editing.

I definitely wouldn't go prebuilt or you'll get way less bang for your buck. I had never built a computer and it took me and Tyler maybe 2 hours to figure it out, no problems in the last 3 years. Also pcpartpicker is a good way to make sure everything works together.
I have an older i5 and gtx 960, its starting to struggle a bit in new AAA titles so i'd go with a 1070. Idk when Nvidia's new series of graphics cards will come out so you may want to look into that and wait a few weeks/months. Its almost impossible to find a rx series card right now because of cryptocurrency unless you want to pay 3x the price. I know nothing about AMD's new processor lineup, but they've always traditionally been the best budget stuff.
Like i said in a post a few pages back, I'd put the most money into the gpu and processor, and you can likely get away with a more budget friendly motherboard and case. I wouldnt reccomend the $30 case I have cause its heavy and is literally falling apart, but you can save some money by getting a non-glass side panel case.
If you think you may overclock it go ahead and get a ~$25-$30 cpu cooler now and save some headache later. I'd also recommend to go ahead and get a 120 or 240gb ssd to use as a boot drive and put your most used games/apps on along with a 1TB HD.
Linus tech tips older videos, jaystwocents, and countless youtube channels have good build guides for beginners and its almost impossible to screw up.
Edit: I just put together one with a i5 and 1070 and its at $1200, oops

Make sure to pay attention to compatibility notes on the pcpartpicker website. For instance, the case in the one above can have issues with drive bays being blocked by big cards like the 1070.

Its running the beginner's recommended OS Raspbian, which is based on Debian which is linux i think? I know nothing about coding so its been a challenge getting everything set up.
I can't figure out how to get openvpn running through privateinternetaccess to save my life, but once thats set up I'm gonna use it for torrenting. I thought I set it up as a NAS with a external hard drive but that didn't work quite right either. I did manage to get Deluge set up so I can just browse torrents on my laptop or desktop and send them to it through a web app. I'm also going to use Plex server and hopefully Plex client on it as well, as it will be hooked to my receiver in the living room, but I also want to be able to watch stuff on my laptop over wifi. I've managed to break the OS about 4 times now, but at least its a quick 10 minute process to reinstall and start over. If I cant figure out the vpn, i have another microSD with OSMC (Kodi) loaded on it with a vpn already set up and I guess I'll just stream everything.

That's been my approach for my last two gaming computers. I like the models with low profile cases, though full size opens up your video card options.
Taylor, this would work for you too. No reason to spend $1k, even including monitor(s). Another $300 there and you have a 34" 21:9 (I love mine, gets approx 70-75deg FOV from a single screen) or dual 24"s.

All depends on what you really want. Do you prefer gaming and video processing? Or one over the other? Do you just use it occasionally to web browse? Good platform to build on later?
You can sacrifice one or the other but the two builds I mentioned above try to balance between all of those things.
The builds above check all of Taylor's needs.
A refurb doesn't give a good place to build on, a 1050TI will not play AAA games except on Low, and an old i5 (speed dependent) will not edit video very well.

Any i5 can handle multiple 1080 streams so I'd be shocked if it takes anything special. It's not enough if he wants to make "Toy Story 4".

As far as games go, crysis 3 specs said a GTX 680 would run full detail. And the 5 year newer but much lower power 1050ti has almost an identical passmark score and twice the ram, so that's why I figured it'd be enough for playing most recent titles reasonably. And, it's 3x what I'm currently using.
I just think cutting edge computers have been a false economy for a long time. You get 3 years out of the $400 refurb approach, and then you can still upgrade the drive, memory, and video card and get a couple more years. Or, spend 3 times as much. I hope that machine lasts at least 9 years...?

Anybody need a monitor? I have a 22" Westinghouse LCD that I bought in high school and want to upgrade to something with HDMI so I can use it with my new laptop.
The big claim to fame was all the inputs - DVI, VGA, Component video (red/blue/green) and Composite video (yellow/red/white). Still looks great, plenty bright, good pixels 'n' shit. Make me an offer, I want it gone.
Also have an 8-core AMD tower that I have offered to Taylor, but if he doesn't want it, will post back here too.
