Aftermarket caps are pretty commonplace and apparently it's a 10 minute job, assuming you don't shatter the mirror. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Direct-Replacem ... 1481962211 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTWgRkIhlSI Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - WRXtranceformed - 02-10-2017 I did that on my Jag if you remember, except the only company that made them built them so you had to silicone them to the stock mirror housing. It's definitely mad easy and looks good, I wouldn't judge you if you did it. Then you can plastidip your grill Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - Apoc - 02-11-2017 I finally got to take it out on a proper road today - this car is the tits. Not only did I not realize how crappy the Mini was, I think the GTI might be the most fun car I've driven since my B5 S4. The 911 is fun for obvious reasons, but it's a purist's car with no power anything, including steering. It's a pretty tiring car to drive whereas the GTI is fun and relaxing. Sport mode had more if a difference than I thought it would. I didn't notice anything in steering or handling (didn't test it), but the throttle response and/or gearing is definitely lower. Shifts seem a little harsher, but I think it's because it downshifts earlier than regular mode. In regular, the DSG is pretty darn good; it rarely seems to be in the wrong gear and there's very little lag in power. The car is most comfortable around 70 mph because a few times I looked down at the speedo to be surprised I was actually going that fast - it felt more like 55 and I just kept ending up there. The hop from 70 to 80 happens in a flash and it'll climb higher than that pretty easily. Truth is I did not find a situation where it didn't feel rock solid... at any speed. I have bad news for Mike --- I fit in the seats a lot better when I'm not wearing a sweater and jacket. I had a thin sweatshirt on during this drive and the seats were infinitely better. Warmer weather and dropping some lbs should fix the issue altogether. Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - Mike - 02-11-2017 I don't want your GTI, I want the Porsche, Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - Apoc - 03-23-2017 I've been pretty disappointed with the gas mileage I've been getting. The GTI is advertised as 24 mpg city, but I've been getting around 20 on 100% city driving. I know 24 is the theoretical max and my commute is a 3.8 mile stint of sitting at red lights, but I didn't expect to get 200 miles per tank. The below is from my commute this morning; I was pretty conservative with the gas pedal and it was in Normal driving mode the whole time. :? Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - .RJ - 03-23-2017 MPG will always be worse with lots of cold start short trips. Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - Senor_Taylor - 03-23-2017 Damn, bamboozled by VW again! Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - JPolen01 - 03-23-2017 If your commute is mainly idling at red lights you're gonna have a bad time. Re: Project? Nah... Yeah, although I expected somewhat better given the Mini is rated at 26 city and I got like 25. It's not a huge deal, but does kinda make me wish that the GTI has the engine shutoff the 328 does. I think I'm more annoyed the gas tank is so small - I run it pretty far down and it still only takes ~11.5 gallons (tank is 13.2). I mean, shit, the 911 is 21 gallons and the car is noticeably smaller than the GTI. Yes, I'm complaining about having to get gas every three weeks. Re: Project? Nah... Re: Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI - SlimKlim - 03-23-2017 How many miles do you have on it now? My mileage improved significantly after getting it properly broken in. The exhaust also gets a bit louder after a few thousand miles. Register for a hyperdrive and break it in good and proper and see if your mileage improves a bit. I tend to average low 20s on my ~8 mile commute if traffic is heavier, I can easily get low 30s if it's light. On long trips I can squeeze high-30s to 40 out of it. Winter will definitely kill your mileage especially on short trips, it takes mine like 15-20 minutes for the oil to get all the way up to temp on a cold morning. Sometimes I get all the way to work without being able to use any (well, much) boost. |
