Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - Jake - 03-03-2016 Could you hack up the trunk lid to make it open differently? I'm thinking the back panel could flop down like a Mini Cooper convertible, which would allow access without unbolting the wing. And then if you did have to open things up more, you'd be able to unbolt the wing and raise the top part of the trunk lid separately.
Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - .RJ - 03-03-2016 Instead of cutting the trunk, build a support that is bolted to the frame rails that butts up against the wing mounts on the trunk, and bolt them through it. Sure you have to unbolt something to lift the trunk but that's better than cutting it up. The way mine is built its just as easy to pop off the wing then getting perfect trunk alignment.
Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-09-2016 Update this week: Out of Road Atlanta After a super fun weekend of Chump Car, I got straight back to work on the car and knocked out a ton of things on my list. Couple things wrong with the car. 1st, the owner put a 330i pump in, what probably lead the way for an early pump death. Darn you. 2nd, Brake switch died, ordered a new one, but have to bleed the system once I put it in...ugh. Ran myself ragged and then was ready for the dyno. Unfortunately Monday at work comes around and turns into week of hell. Barely made the dyno. 1st Run at "max" hp without further tuning hit peak of 342rwhp. Oops. I need to be more in the 325rwhp region. Spent 2 hours getting the M3 down to 328rwhp peak for about a 321rwhp average. Got it back home, and then got slammed with work again. All of this running around and stress unfortunately got me sick and this morning I am barely functioning (but yay still have work). So calling it for RA. Rest up the next couple days and finish the car up this weekend. Sucks about being sick though.I saw your post about having a hydraulic-based brake switch on Instagram or wherever, is there a plan or thought on how to convert that to being electronic like the stock setup? And what are you doing to choke it down and make less power, just restrictor plate(s)? I have to rig up a mount and momentary switch behind the pedal which I guess I get to now have the chance to do. Power is done through the tune by restricting the throttle pedal to max opening during parts of the rpm range. Restrictor plates apparently mess with the car (I am not sure the truth of this and wanted to test myself but never had the time). Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - ScottyB - 03-09-2016 ah bummer man. was looking forward to getting some shots of your new ride at RA. probably for the best, if you didn't get sick now you probably would after hurling yourself headlong at this race weekend. interesting about the restrictor but for how stupid easy it is to tune a DBW throttle body i can't blame them for wanting to probably do it that way. Should be a nice kick in the butt compared to the 206rwhp I was running in GTS2 :lol: Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-14-2016 Got some things done over the weekend while the wife was out of town. -Mounted and wired up LED Brake lights -Got wiring ready for momentary electric brake switch (converting from hydraulic) -Oil Change -Cut up bumper shocks to clearance for chassis wing -Cut up and mounted bumper cover, only to realize the quarter panel flares don't line up with the new bumper. Going to have to do some more work to move out the last 3 inches of flares on the rear bumper out about .5 an inch so it looks a bit better -Mounted 50lbs of ballast, only 350lbs to go..ugh -Mounted splitter -Mounted Chassis Wing Setup -Created brackets and mounted inner rear taillights (carbon trunk doesnt have mounting points) -Mounted SmartyCam -Sanded down and painted splitter stanchions -Built bracket for Motorola Radio -Built switch panel for part of deleted dash to hide ECU and mount more switches + fuse boxes for when I clean up remaining wiring Didn't grab many pictures, but much work was done. :wink: ![]() ![]() The new chassis wing mounts supppppperrrr tight. Just a test-fit, new hardware on the way. ![]() Still have a list a million miles long but its getting there. She will be ready for April Summit for a shakedown. The car will be ready for April event. Mostly just cosmetic/nice things to have at this point. -Installed Radio -Made Center Console Panel -Tore apart wiring clusterfuck on side of dash. Going to take some time, but probably wont be done by April. -Installed Remote Battery Terminals (because trunk is now permanently shut) -Rivnutted front and rear windshield for quick removal and previous owner's ugly rivet job (had to weld in some washers to at least make it look decent) -Took a stab at vinyling roof. For a first time job came out great. Could do better next time but not complaining for a race car -Relocated rear remote reservoir shock mounts for easier servicing when wing is mounted Wing all mounted... ![]() Progress on the interior ![]() Remote Battery Terminals ![]() And some fun getting rid of crappy torque converters (doing a manual swap in Jason's car)

It is 4-bolts to open the trunk so if battery replacement is required, it can be done. I added the remote battery terminals for when the car is sitting on the battery tender, or in the event the battery dies and I have 2 minutes on grid, someone can just slap my battery jump box on them without having to take apart the wing. Another "nice to have" item. The older I get the more I appreciate making backup plans and things easier on myself to service.
