Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - rherold9 - 04-27-2016 Probably need to replace axle Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 04-28-2016 so a torn boot definitely means a bad CV, or does a bad CV definitely tear the boot? Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - Maengelito - 04-28-2016 A torn boot means the CV is losing/has lost all the grease keeping the joint from destroying itself and can be relatively common. A bad CV may not necessarily tear through a boot but if it did, that means there are sharp things spinning around and you probably would've noticed well in advance. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-14-2016 Got it up on stands and checked the CV boots as I rotated it didn't see a tear. Took it to the shop and they claim the front right rim is severely bent. I'm skeptical because the problem didn't happen after hitting a pothole. I also.checked the dogbone mount, and it seemed in order. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - *insertusernamehere* - 05-14-2016 Sounds like a bad cv axle Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-15-2016 Well, I threw on a full size spare, and to be sure, checked the PSI of all the other tires to make sure I didnt have one secretly really low or something - still got the shakes. Guess I will try to diagnose CV axles Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-15-2016 Well I bought axles, and couldn't find a triple box bit to fit the CV bolts. Tried to use a T50 torx, which felt like it bit fine for taking 4 bolts off..and then it stripped two of them proper..fuck. This is turning into a real pain in the dick. I might just park this shit until VW buyback takes it from me Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - .RJ - 05-15-2016 You nee a triple square tool. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-15-2016 yeah..i actually went to sears to see if they had a set - didn't. Tried to wing it - was actually a 10mm hex bit, not a T50 torx..I ordered some from amazon to give it another try - I don't know if they are already too far gone. If they are I will just use some extraction kit I guess. I;m not even convinced this is the problem, but I don't know what else to try. Put the car on jack stands, get someone to bring it up to 40 or 50 while its in the air, look for whatever is vibrating. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-16-2016 Seems dangerous..I'd rather have a lift for doing that kind of thing Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - ViPER1313 - 05-16-2016 It's not dangerous unless it falls off. Just look at it from behind / the sides. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - Senor_Taylor - 05-16-2016 ViPER1313 Wrote:It's not dangerous unless it falls off.I may or may not have done this before. Only up to like 20 mph though. Pretty frightening. Every vw cv axle has been held on to the trans output shaft/stub axles with triple square bolts. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-16-2016 Hence the stripped bolt heads Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-17-2016 Well, hooray for using the right tool for the job. I was able to get the bolts out after all - they weren't stripped when using the triple square. Got the driver axle back in - lost one of the CV bolts so I need to go get that one. No idea where it could have gone. The next major annoying thing, at 10:45 at night, I discovered the passenger side axle nut is the wrong MFing size - so i'm dead in the water til I go buy a 24mm socket. I guess someone has already done this project once before. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-19-2016 Both axles in...vibration seems to have gone. I may still need to get the tires balanced again or something..there's a slight "wub wub wub" going down the road, but i can also live with it until I hear about the buyout details Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - JPolen01 - 05-19-2016 wub wub sounds like a wheel bearing. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 05-19-2016 Ive had bad wheel bearings before on another car - don't recall it sounding like this. It sounds more like tire noise to me maybe. I'll update if I get it figured out. Re: Vee DafuqDidIjustDo Sportwagen - HAULN-SS - 12-15-2016 Well.. Turned the old girl in today.. Put 43,000 miles on it, paid 6300 plus tires, plus CV axles, plus a headlight bulb, plus a exhaust pipe valve...getting $11750 for it. Not bad. |
