Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - ScottyB - 02-24-2016 you're right, i never would have spotted a color difference between the engineered stuff and the steps. nicely done there. living room looks great...just reminds me we need a rug in ours, badly. ah, the fun never ends. He said they had to use 4 different colors to get the color right. Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - JPolen01 - 03-06-2017 Picking this up from the dead. Haven't done a whole lot with the house as we are nearing the point of diminishing returns. I've wanted to do a kitchen backsplash for a long time as it greatly improves the look for a pretty low cost (when you do it yourself). I've kinda strayed away from car projects lately becoming more handy around the house which isn't a bad thing. I've never done a backsplash or any kind of tile on a wall, but I've done a small bathroom floor with my buddy so we said f it how much harder can this be? Turns out not really that hard. Just a few tricky cuts and the fact that the counter tops weren't level made things a bit interesting when we were trying to find a level line. Good thing he is in construction and really good at trouble shooting problems like this. It would have taken me hours to come up with a plan that he figured out in a few minutes. Onto the pictures! Free tools are the best tools! Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - Sully - 03-06-2017 Curious as to what his solution to the unlevel counter was Edit: I think I might have actually found it but not sure Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - WRXtranceformed - 03-06-2017 Looks great my man! Caulk fixes everything Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - ScottyB - 03-06-2017 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Caulk fixes everything i hear he loves the caulk Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - Apoc - 03-06-2017 i hear black caulk is the best. it really gets in there and fills the gaps. Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - .RJ - 03-06-2017 I love to rock out with my caulk out on the weekends Re: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - JPolen01 - 03-06-2017 Sully Wrote:Curious as to what his solution to the unlevel counter wasPretty much what Lee said except with grout. The counter in the foreground is higher so we ran the line based on the counter where the sink is and cut the tiles gradually smaller the closer we got to where the photo was taken. You can't even tell there is a difference because the white grout blends with the tile. I do have some edges to caulk tonight. I also need to apply the grout sealer so it doesn't stain when I forget about the spaghetti sauce I'm cooking and it starts popping all over the place. I'm really pleased with the results for 2 days of work and about $275. Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - JPolen01 - 10-09-2017 Cross posted from the homeowners thread: So we were going back and forth with looking to move and staying in our house. To get the house we wanted we would have to move west of where we live now which is far from friends and family and my wife's job. We decided to stay put for another few years but that meant we needed to address the bathrooms. Our master bath is tiny. That and the guest bath were original to house (1987) and in need of work. We looked into full renovations and it was just stupid for not our forever house. Emily found this one man operation that did tile and tub refinishing. Basically he removes all the grout, re grouts, and re glazes the tile as well as refinished tubs and shower pans. Guy was incredibly professional, clean, and did great work. He also hung a new shower door for us. About $1400 later and the bathrooms look new. I have a new vanity to install in the master after we get new tile floors installed this week. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - Senor_Taylor - 10-09-2017 Man I love the new trend of clear glass shower doors. I hate taking a shower in the dark. Looks great! But seriously I think I might try this? RE: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - .RJ - 10-10-2017 shower squeegee RE: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - WRXtranceformed - 10-10-2017 Yeah we squeegee our clear glass shower (we have two full walls and a door with it) after every shower. We also spray down our shower tile with shower cleaner after every use and it really helps keep it much cleaner than letting it air dry. RE: Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - JPolen01 - 10-10-2017 Yeah I know the squeegee routine. So far it really hasn't needed it, but I will probably pick one up soon. Project Townhouse: 1st Time Buyers - ViPER1313 - 10-10-2017 Yea I ripped that shit out years ago. I don’t have to squeegee my shower curtain. I didn't buy a house to shower like a poor person in my master bath. Guests get the shower curtain treatment since it is a full tub. |
