Well, there's still a chance that SPK will allow people to bring their own karts at some point.

i really wish they would. they can do an intro program/HPDE-ish with their karts as one group (obviously a rental deal), and then have a couple of other groups with people who bring their own. is their facility set up for high HP karts? it might be holding them back.

They did that when they opened, even had some wka races there, but I think with the a&d business doing well it doesn't make as much financial sense for them.

They do have a feedback survey on Facebook right now so you can request it and if there is demand they may be open to doing it once or twice a month.

Yeah might be the kind of thing that if enough people showed the willingness to pay enough to make it worth their while they'd do it. Maybe on a Sunday morning before 11 or 12 when they wouldn't have that many arrive and drivers anyway. Would have to do a bit of legwork to scare up some karters who'd want to go though.

I would love to meet you there or at VIR, like, this weekend.
What else is down this way other than VIR and GoPro?
Apparently Woodbridge also runs here, or did? http://nccar.us/

Maybe i didnt go back far enough for the decision but i guess this did not end up being a shifter kart?

Im assuming no updates cause winter but whats the plan come spring. I started talking to my buddy about splitting a kart in the future because we both want to get into some type of go fast wheel to wheel action.

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 02-24-2015

Yeah we got a rotax kart. It's still a 125 with 28 horsepower but it's a sealed engine so far less cost and maintenance than a shifter. The other reason we went rotax is because the grid sizes are pretty good for the classes that use the engine whereas shifter grids are thinner except for national races.

We're gonna try to do some shakedowns in March and early April. Baby is due in May so I probably won't be able to get our and race until July/August timeframe but if anyone wants to race with Kevin he'll be going out a few times in that time period.

The tracks you listed are all kinda far for a day trip for me to come watch and see what it's about in person but the gopro track seems the most interesting if you make it out to that

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 02-24-2015

There are two tracks in Maryland that are about an hour away from Nova, and we'll probably do a Sunday morning open practice at VIR at some point, maybe on the March Nasa weekend.

EDIT: Dominion Raceway might also be a possibility, I just emailed them to ask about their karting schedule.
