Re: Any MM'ers golf? - WRXtranceformed - 08-24-2016 Yeah, it is a great game to learn for business. I've definitely done some dealings and strengthened client relationships on the course...if your goal is to do that and can get good enough to not completely embarrass yourself then you'll be fine (ie high 80s low 90s). The only other big thing golf has going for it is that you can play well into your old age and you can play with your significant other. Re: Any MM'ers golf? - Senor_Taylor - 08-24-2016 The only reason I was able to get into golf was the fact that I have access to free used golf balls and have never had to buy a sleeve. The golf course near my house also is only $25 to ride 18 holes. Other than that, Golf is wildly expensive unless you just play Par 3's and hit range. Re: Any MM'ers golf? - davej - 08-24-2016 Not having to do client relations on a regular basis has kept my outings to the occasional corporate scramble, however I'm looking forward to it as a retirement activity when time is more abundant. growing up, my access to 'free' golf balls was sneaking out on the driving range at night to collect a backpack full, then going back and hitting them again the next day. Our high school minds figured since we were doing all the work and not keeping the balls, it wasn't really stealing. Re: Any MM'ers golf? - WRXtranceformed - 08-24-2016 ^^ Haha well played. And indeed, maybe when I retire and have all the time in the world and nothing to spend $ on I'll get better than mid 80s at best. Re: Any MM'ers golf? - Steve85 - 09-12-2016 This is the grinds my gear thread right? No, golf thread? OK, same thing... BLUF:played a lot, played great, played like shit, played pretty well, not sure if I want to quit or dedicate my life to it. Played in my dad's annual tournament this past weekend at Bryce Resort and had a great time but damn this game! Format: 68 Players 3 Days 63 Holes Day one: 18 hole stroke play followed by 9 hole scramble (money for Eagles, Birdies, Sandies, Greenies in stroke play) Day two: 18 hole stroke play (new teams) (money for Eagles, Birdies, Sandies, Greenies in stroke play) Day three: 18 hole scramble (new teams) Daily adjustment to handicaps, Teams consist of A-D player for parity I went in with a 20 handicap, a far cry from my glory days as a 4. But on Friday, I was striking the ball well and grinding like a MFer when I didn't. I've been trying to just pick up my wedge when I have time and work on chipping and it seemed to pay off. Also had 4 shots that were 140-160 yd low punch-out 5 irons that ran right up the throat of the green. Made 3 pars and a birdie on holes that should have been bogies. Shot an 81, made $40 in junk and we took low twosome and low foursome. I was leading low-net individual for the tourney by 4 strokes and only 3 strokes off for low gross and happily anticipating the sandbagger ridicules the next morning. And even with the handicap adjusted to a 15 for Saturday, I was in pretty good shape! Well, handicaps are what they are for a reason - 100 strokes on Saturday - One hundred - 19 more strokes over the course of 18 holes. Every shot that caught the edge of the bunker and hopped on the green on Friday, kicked into the bunker on Saturday. When I was few yards in the trees on Saturday, there was no clear line to the green. Put three tee shots in the water, on 1, 8, and 15 - the water on 1 and 8 is 20 yards off the box and 15 is a 140yd par 3. It was 5 straight hours of Spieth on the 12th. Sunday comes and I'm relaxed with the knowledge that I will not always have to play my shot. And back came the ball striking. We didn't use many of my drives (we were playing with some older guys who were hitting from the gold tees and they get a pretty good advantage) but I was roping approaches in from everywhere and it felt good! We didn't putt well though and finished out of the money for the day. Overall though, another great experience at one of the best regular guy tournaments I know of. It makes we want to play more every year but I tend to let life get in the way a bit. I'd be more committed to playing 9 holes in the afternoon once or twice a week with the family if they didn't charge 90% of the 18 hole price... RE: Any MM'ers golf? - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2018 Are there any good Par 3s in Nova? Where does everyone play that has decent prices for a full 18 and ride? RE: Any MM'ers golf? - Sijray21 - 04-25-2018 What kind of Par 3s are you looking for? Long-tight ones or tricky green short ones? etc? I haven't played consistently for years (only play in a couple of tournaments a year) mainly due to the cost and time commitment. if you can get on the Fort Belvoir North Courses (Gunston and Woodlawn) those are interesting and challenging courses. Woodlawn tends to be tighter and more wooded and Gunston is more open and longer (i think more water and sand). This was our home course in HS. Too many good golf courses in the area to limti yourself to Par 3s. Any MM'ers golf? - Senor_Taylor - 04-25-2018 They were two separate questions. I'm looking for a Par 3 to get Joey and Zach out there at some point. Also looking for a real course for me and Tyler to put in a few rounds at. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk RE: Any MM'ers golf? - Sijray21 - 04-25-2018 The only par 3 course i know of in the area is the Burke Lake Course (full 18-hole par 3s). https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/sites/parks/files/assets/documents/golf/burkelake/blgc-scorecard-1.pdf it's one of the first places i learned to play without frustrating too many people or letting everyone play through. Great for short-game work, but i can't comment on the quality of the course since it's been a while since i've been there. The Herndon Centennial course is a bit expensive if i remember correctly. The Akgonkian Course (Sterling) is challenging (read: long - Regionals were held here when i was in HS). Twin Lakes was fun, but they're expensive and busy. Not much to note other than I feel like I've been on fire lately. Shot a legit 84 and beat two of my friends the other day (who are regularly in the low 80s) and seem to be consistently in the 80s when I can actually get out and play. It gives me hope that someday (maybe when I'm retired) I can actually break 80 when I have more time to play. I would love to pony up at some point and get a new set of irons, mine are getting a little long in the tooth. My buddy did just get a full simulator built at his house and I need to get over there and check it out #richfriends Any MM'ers golf? - plaugs_golf - 10-03-2018 (10-03-2018, 09:33 AM)Senor_Taylor Wrote: Thread is four years old and this is your first post here [emoji102][emoji102][emoji102](10-03-2018, 02:50 AM)plaugs_golf Wrote: Do any MM’ers golf? Boi Better late than never [emoji102][FLAG IN HOLE]️ If anyone wants to go anytime btw, I’m down to play. I’m at JMU and I’m not rich, so I can’t go off somewhere far away and spend a crap ton of money, but if anyone wants to play 9 or 18, hit up top golf sometime, mini golf, or just go to a driving range somewhere, I’m down. Heck, a simulator sounds even more fun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Any MM'ers golf? - Senor_Taylor - 10-03-2018 Do y'all play on weekends or what? I can't seem to find the time to make it. I haven’t played in a while just because I’ve been so busy, but yeah, weekends or just anytime I have 3 or so hours open and I don’t have anything else that I would choose over golf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Any MM'ers golf? - Senor_Taylor - 10-03-2018 Are you still on club golf?
