Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Jake - 03-14-2014 It pays to shop around every so often! What did you have to do to reduce it so much? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 03-14-2014 I wasn't aware I was overpaying until now. My whole family was overpaying. I'm so happy. This means I can actually make this and my house payment next year on 200 a week! Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - *insertusernamehere* - 03-14-2014 Wait, you own a house too? :evileye: I wanna drive a Miata and see what they feel like. Let me know when you go to test drive one (if you're in hburg) Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 03-14-2014 I'll probably be looking next fall. Also, I mean my house in Copper. $520 a month. Ridiculous. That's a mortgage payment around here. After next year, I may say Peace to my housemates and find somewhere cheaper. i'd rather have $200 a month to spend on my truck/car than have somewhere marginally better than the others to live in. Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - *insertusernamehere* - 03-14-2014 Oh! You mean rent! Lol How many roommates do you have? Re: Miata as first car? I originally had 3, but the rich bastards wanted to do 2 houses of 3 next to each other instead of one house of 4. The extra 2 people we added aren't even close friends. Jewels Wrote:That is not a mortgage payment around here. Unless you live in a shack. Well I don't live where you live ![]() Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - *insertusernamehere* - 03-14-2014 Weird. Do you know any other people with 3bedrooms and if they pay the same rate? I've heard a few people report awkward pricing between the same bedroom townhouses there. And some poor child thought water/electric was included with Copper's rent, its not. Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 03-14-2014 Nope. 520 seems to be the same for all 3 people houses in Copper. This is including the utilities. It's like 470 originally, then add in utilities and furnishing. Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - *insertusernamehere* - 03-14-2014 Ah, yeah. $470 makes plenty sense. Electric fluctuates, our last one was $145 (ouch) but we've also been as low as $70 (yay) in the fall when we turned the AC/heat off for weeks! ![]() Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 03-14-2014 You're in Copper? I thought utilities were always the same. That's what they implied... Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - *insertusernamehere* - 03-14-2014 Lol no, it varies. Just to be sure though, look on your lease, if it says $470 then thats all you pay Copper, if it says $520 then i guess its included. If not, you set up an account with HEC and water company and pay them separately. Before you do that though, set a UDAP with jmu so you don't have to pay the $300 deposit for electric and whatever the deposit is for water. If for whatever reason you forget to pay the bill jmu will pay it for you and then you owe the univ. that money. It protects your credit. http://www.jmu.edu/udap/ Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 03-14-2014 Thanks man! Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - JPolen01 - 03-15-2014 Senor_Taylor Wrote:You're in Copper? I thought utilities were always the same. That's what they implied...Dude utilities cannot ever be the same for every house every month. Not everyone uses the same amount of water and keeps the heat or ac at he same temp. The water is pretty constant as long as you guys aren't taking 5 showers a day each. Electricity fluctuates depending on time of the year. I've seen electricity bills at my house in copper anywhere between $100-$200 (200 last month when it was cold as fawk). Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 03-15-2014 Well damn. The people at Copper really tried to make it sound like they had managed a flat rate. Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - *insertusernamehere* - 03-15-2014 Lol they wanted you to sign. They're also not the best at communication. It won't hurt to double check your paper work. Some students get in trouble for mishaps the office makes and then have pay thooousaaannddsss! Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Senor_Taylor - 04-28-2014 Let's start her up again. Miata vs. E36. Cheaper in the long run? Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - V1GiLaNtE - 04-28-2014 Buy a honderp. Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - Jake - 04-28-2014 Senor_Taylor Wrote:Let's start her up again. Initial buy-in for a clean, cared-for one will be similar. Parts are cheaper for the Mazda - rotors are like $17 vs. $30, for example. Only uses 4 qts of oil versus 7. Things like that will make the Miata cheaper. That said, running costs of either one are pretty close. A cared-for 325i or 328i that's had maintenance done (so you don't get stuck right away doing steering and suspension bits) will be pretty easy to own. I'd say they're both pretty similar in "easy to work on" scale, too. See which one you fit better in. Now that I've sold my NA, I don't think I could (or would) go back to owning another one. Just too small for my tall self to feel safe. Re: Miata as first car? Suggestions? - CaptainHenreh - 04-28-2014 Between those two, I'd go "well cared for Miata". it'll be more fun, cheaper to maintain, and it'll teach you more in the long run on the racetrack. |
