Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 01-25-2013 I do not prefer the looks of a soft-top so never really considered a convertible. Retractable hardtop is really cool. Especially now that I live at the beach. Combined with the power that the cars have, I am attracted. I will be going to test drive one when I have time. I could see the top being an issue with age, and the normal BMW maintenance shenanigans. I have never owned a German car, plus only have basic knowledge about automotive DIY (mainly on a 40 year old camaro). Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - SlimKlim - 01-25-2013 Yeah, eventually the top will eventually be a pain in your ass. Just take a look at all the little hinges, levers and motors in there when its on its way up or down. However, I seriously doubt a newish one is going to crap out on you anytime soon, can't say I have any personal experience with them though. The 335i's also seem to be plagued by that High Pressue Fuel Pump failure issue, its hard to believe they haven't found a solution for them yet. My coworker with an '08 135i has had his in the shop for it at least 3 times in the past year. Again, I don't have any personal experience, I'd hope that after having them in production for 5 years they've found a fuel pump that doesn't crap out all the time. If you're considering them I'd just do some digging on the forums (bimmerfest and bimmerforums are the best) and get an idea of what you're in for. The one thing about BMWs that makes putting up with their bullshit a lot easier, is we have a great enthusiast community. For every problem you have someone has already had it, found a way to fix it and posted a DIY about it. Come to the dark side. Also, how big does the car need to be? What about the latest body style of Z4? Those things are super sessy. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 01-25-2013 I'll definitely start scoping out the forums. I think the Z4 would be too small, but I agree they look good. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 02-04-2013 ....or wait til September for the CLA? Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - JPolen01 - 02-04-2013 Levey Wrote:....or wait til September for the CLA?I could be wrong, but isn't that going to be offered in a 4banger only? Can't remember if you are considering 4 cylinders or not. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 02-05-2013 No you're right. Turbo 4 with ~210hp. Would most likely yield the same "meh" as the A5 with the 2.0T. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Evan - 02-06-2013 every other manufacturer gets ~260 out of their 2.0T (and usually on regular gas) I guess MB cant even build a decent engine anymore. My civic makes 210hp NA. Come on benz. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - CaptainHenreh - 02-06-2013 No one buying a CLA even knows what horsepower means... Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 02-07-2013 CaptainHenreh Wrote:No one buying a CLA even knows what horsepower means... Most likely true. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - xvxax - 02-07-2013 Benz used a wimpy turbo 4 to get as much torque as possible and I'm sure with the hopes to at least make a run at a reasonable fuel economy number to meat the looming fuel economy standards that everyone appears to be largely ignoring. I would have to guess that 260lb/ft at 1600rpm will sell wannabe Benz's 50 times over before peak power does. I'm sure it will do fine. That car wasn't built for car-types. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Evan - 02-07-2013 CaptainHenreh Wrote:No one buying a CLA even knows what horsepower means...the super bowl commercial said Id get kate upton shoving her tits in my face if i buy one. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 02-08-2013 I don't think an auto manufacturer would make an ad if it were untrue. I'm going to sign up for the waiting list for one (1) CLA/Kate Upton boob combo. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 02-08-2013 Would it be Allen Iverson stupid to pick up an 05 Maserati Coupe like this one: Probably have to take a loan out to get the clutch replaced Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Jake - 02-08-2013 Levey Wrote:Would it be Allen Iverson stupid to pick up an 05 Maserati Coupe like this one: Can you afford to maintain a car that originally cost $100k+? Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - HAULN-SS - 02-10-2013 Yeah i have researched those some..transmissions are junk. Also they are starting to look pretty dated. A better option for a bit more money is an 07+ QP, or, actually not a maserati at all Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - Levey - 02-14-2013 Reality check complete, no 6 year old Maserati in my future. Re: WTB: Grown-up Car - davej - 02-14-2013 seller dropped the B7 down to $34.5 just sayin is all.... http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh ... 257&page=2 |
