Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 08-24-2015

Woe! Dismay! China was artificially inflating their economy! OMG Surprise! Companies are super cash rich but not maintaining double digit growth every year so the economies are in disasters! The "entities" who control the markets are hilarious. I'm in it for the long haul so not super concerned at the losses right now but hopefully you flippers got out while the getting was good Tongue

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 08-24-2015

My brother (FA in DC) told me this morning he has had more people calling him this morning to buy than those worried about the economy, like literally taking crazy orders.

Re: Stock Market Thread - Kaan - 08-24-2015

Undecided hopefully I can retire one day.

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 08-25-2015

Today's episode should be at least as exciting as yesterday! Might open higher than Friday and then who knows!

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 09-22-2015

So who's buying VLKAY? Wait another day?

Re: Stock Market Thread - rherold9 - 09-22-2015

Looks like people are buying it thinking the same thing you are to invest as it is starting to go up slightly. I'd buy now, imo. Don't think it will drop that much more

Edit: I think their stocks will level off soon. Unless more bad info comes out.

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 09-22-2015

I was tempted, but with US halting their sales I'd like to know if that'll happenelsewhere too...
Of course waiting for the bottom isn't much of a strategy, buying now and buying more later if it keeps falling might be wise.

That is a good idea

Re: Stock Market Thread - SlimKlim - 10-05-2015

Is it stupid to buy VW stock?

The mediaz are whipping up a frenzing about dieselgate potentially killing the company. I find that hard to imagine given the ridiculous size of the company and # of brands they have. Not looking for a short term ride so it doesn't matter if it takes a couple years to bounce back. It was at $170/share before dieselgate, now its hovering around $90.

Re: Stock Market Thread - rherold9 - 10-05-2015

No, there is no way it will end the company. They'll be bailed out if it gets thay bad. I'd invest they'll bounce back over a longer period of time

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 10-05-2015

I talked to my brother about it and he recommended to wait until they find out exactly what the fines and total financial fallout will be. They are saying the fines alone will eclipse the BP oil spill fines, plus all of the liability that exists (the lawyers scrambling to file class action suits against them) could get close to $100B. If you're gonna buy low it might make sense to wait for that...I doubt this will "kill" the company but there is a lot more financial impact to VW right now than just US EPA fines. I read even the IRS is investigating due to the ~$100M or so in tax breaks that were given for clean / energy efficient vehicles they sold in CA.

Re: Stock Market Thread - SlimKlim - 10-05-2015

Yeah I'm holding out, checking the news and stock prices every morning, hoping I can catch them near the bottom of the curve.

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 10-12-2015

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 11-05-2015

If anyone uses BoA / Merrill and is a member of their Preferred Rewards program, I got some great advice today from my brother on how to maximize your financial footprint and get and keep your qualification level as high as possible. Feel free to shoot me a PM and I will walk you through it.

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 02-24-2016

Just went all in on DIS, F, AMZN, more CEF too. Holding out on BP and VLKAY for now. Still concerned that VW's inability to do diesel takes away a lot of their momentum and uniqueness. But BP is at a 20 year low, pretty tempting for a good dividend stock.

Re: Stock Market Thread - Mike - 02-25-2016

you've enticed me to get back into the market. plunked down on some bp and f. let's do this.

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-25-2016

Also bought in on some Vanguard Mega Cap today with a CD that came due. Make that monayy

Re: Stock Market Thread - Apoc - 02-25-2016

Everyone should buy lots of AMZN.

[This is because I want the price to go up and not because I have any information that impacts the stock price.]
