So guy was still passing on the shoulder. Lulz.

I think the sad part about this is how the cop just assumed it was the same guy. Wtf... Like yeah the dude that was so far ahead of you just decided to pass you on the right shoulder. Hahaha. Cop obviously never got a good look on the car and was willing to send someone innocent to jail.

Just imagine if that was anyone in this car club. I would be fucking freaking out. Police officer should be dropped to something else or be let go. I can't imagine what else he has just "assumed"...

Most traffic laws and enforcement are ridiculous.

Price out a 911 and Corvette Z06 vs Mustang/Evo/Challenger/Camaro. The z06 and 911 are cheaper than all those because of the demographics and usage. My z06 is only ~$250 every 6 months to insure on full comprehensive. My truck and my M3 were more expensive.
my wife's focus is the most expensive car on my policy. More than my Exige, and more than my newer, more $$ CX-5.

I really dont get insurance pricing.

Yup, my Mazda3 is insanely high as well. $700 for 6 months with a 100% clean record since I'm 16. Not even pulled over once yet *knocks on wood*.

Easily have paid more insurance money than the cost of my car right now... Doesn't make sense at all.

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - Senor_Taylor - 05-13-2015

$1400 a year doesn't sound that bad. I used to pay That on my much older Tacoma noe I pay way more

Our age group sucks for insurance rates.... sigh...

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - WRXtranceformed - 05-13-2015

Yall dont even KNOW high insurance rates. It's only this past year that I have gotten my insurance rates down below $200 / month, and now finally below $100, ever. Mostly my fault when younger due to my car choices and a few scalding tickets.

Idk, in the case with the Challenger I can't look past that those two cars were clearly different, especially if he was on the chase I would think he got a good look at the bad guy. But if a cop is sitting in the median and two similar looking cars blow past him at 90 and he's looking between the radar, all the cars and then to start driving etc I can see how he might get mixed up....

That is in fact exactly how i got lucky missing a ticket.
One of these were following me maybe 2 cars back
[Image: 10176077_20105412157.jpg]

This is my car, similar at least.

I went to close a gap to another pack of cars ahead in the left lane so I wasn't just left out in the open speeding without anyone to follow. While closing the gap I got up to a speed i shouldn't have been and I'm leading a pack of like 5. I clear the bush and BOOM hello officer, i know he caught me. He and look each other dead in the eye and I pass. The wheels start to turn and he pulls up to the edge. EVERYONE swings right except a few. One of those few being the guy in the civic. A black guy, with glasses, short haircut, with all windows down, sunroof open, no tint, silver wheels, blue coupe, with foglights. It literally could not have been a closer description to myself and the colors of our dirty cars were similar and from behind i can actually see someone mistaking the two cars. Well anyways, the cop came up on his ass and the dude is freaking out (cause he knows its not him) and hes pointing at himself like asking "me? you want me?" the cop plays his siren as a "yes" and to the shoulder they went. The entire time i'm 3 cars ahead hiding behind a minivan just cooling it. Booked it outta there. I always wonder what happened to that guy. Either way he was speeding his ass off too and I was following him at illegal speeds earlier, he got unfortunately picked out.. I do feel a little bad though.

it's guilty until proven innocent. the last ticket i ever got was completely false, but i wasn't going to waste my time going to leesburg to attempt to argue physics (white car went speeding by, i pulled out of a parking lot in my also white car, 100ft later nabbed for 45mph) so i just paid it. i think dash cam is the only answer.

I just got finished paying a lawyer $500 for fight a ticket for me, never thought I'd have to do that.

I got caught speeding leaving the midtown tunnel here in NYC doing 70 in a 45. If you see the road though, there is literally no reason whatsoever for it to be 45 and I (through my own fault) had no idea it was a 45. To be fair, either way I was "speeding" since the speed limit is 55 normally but 70 is usually the flow of left lane traffic here. Not arguing the fact that I was speeding just the following-

I've never had a ticket before (in NY anyway) and since it was 25 MPH over it automatically grants me 6 points and enrollment in the "Driver Responsibility Assessment." What's that you ask? A class? Mandatory meeting? Nope. Just $100 due to NY every year for the next 3 years. Or I can pay up front. On top of the $240 ticket.

No plea bargaining in NYC either - can't use the fact that I have a perfect driving record up until now to at least lower the points. So now I paid a lawyer whose only real strategy is delay, delay, delay. Court date is set for December 30 and, in his words, "I wouldn't expect anything to happen for another 12-18 months."

Idk, I get that I did wrong and maybe it's just sour grapes but something about the way this is set up just feels wrong. From the bogus speed limit to the questionable "assessment" and lack of bargaining.

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - SlimKlim - 05-13-2015

FFX Co Police have had their way with me on two separate occasions.

1.) Bought non-running Miata on Sunday night. Put it in parking spot, woke up early to go to DMV on Monday morning. While at DMV am written $50 ticket for unregistered vehicle. County employee on the phone gives precisely zero fucks that I was at the fucking DMV getting fucking tags when i got the fucking ticket. I still don't even know what I was supposed to do to make that purchase and overnight parking completely legal in the eyes of the county. I didn't think I needed a trip permit because the goddamn car didn't even run.

Girl on the phone advises that I pay the ticket or go to court to argue, I was a contractor at the time so the time away from work cost more than the ticket. Tried to pay it for 3 weeks, hadn't been added to the online system. Forgot about it for a week, got a $50 late charge.

2.) Pulled over for loud exhaust on my way to work. Cop writes me a ticket for not having a muffler installed on the car. Car does have muffler. Call the county, they still don't give a fuck, I'm still a contractor so I can't afford to go to court. Paid that ticket too. Should be a non-moving violation right? Nope, shows up on my insurance record for 3 years, just got rid of it last January.

I'm not saying the car isn't illegal according to VA State law, because it is, but if you're going to slap some totally bullshit ticket on me because you need to hit your monthly quota (happened 1/29/12 or something like that), at least write down the correct goddamn law.

I actually expressed that frustration to one of FFX Co's finest recently, that I find it particularly fucky that a diesel work truck, Harley, or stock Ferrari can wake everyone up in a neighborhood and it's perfectly legal, but the modified exhaust on my old shitheap BMW which isn't as loud as any of those things is illegal. He agreed with me, and made it sound like it was something he would personally gloss over, but it is the law and other officers can and will pull you over and ticket you for it. I've gotten real good at my neutral coast when I pass cops in that car.

Nothing to add here except I got a ticket once for 70 in a 55 on Rt 7 in Clark county. I went to court just for the sole purpose of uttering in my finest latin "Nolo Contendere" after which everyone in the courthouse turned around to see who the jackass was. I'm not sure if I got fined more, or less, but I got my $60 court fee's worth.

I got out of a tint ticket at court in Staunton because I have famous Civil War Confederate ancestors and the judge recognized my last name. I couldn't even make that up if I tried.

Just asked my 20 year old buddy. His R/T was $175 a month. Not sure on the details, though.

That's right around what I'm paying right now for the Taco (comprehensive) and the Miata (liability)

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - JPolen01 - 05-13-2015

Random rates mean nothing without what coverage the person has. We have a whole thread for this already.

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - WRXtranceformed - 05-13-2015

Yeah there's a lot that goes into rate methodology even outside of an individual's situation and driving records...cost to repair, how frequently that particular model is crashed, what state you are in...etc.

So basically both of you are butt hurt that you got caught. Is it the cops fault the speed limit is 45 and you were doing 70? No. Is it your fault for going 25 over the speed limit? Yes.

Joey, whose fault is it that you had an aftermarket exhaust? Certainly not the police officers. Is it his fault you didn't follow the proper regulations for moving and storing an unregistered vehicle? Nope.

Here's the point I'm getting at. Those officer's don't make the laws. They are paid the enforce the laws. Now maybe I'm a little jaded because I have a badge and I can see where they are coming from; but if you are obviously breaking the law just man up and pay for it. I've certainly paid my fair share of tickets.

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - *insertusernamehere* - 05-13-2015

Yeah but i think joey and ken are arguing more about how unreasonable police can be. Like yeah sure the law says "x" and "y" but just because you have a badge and on duty does that mean you're going to abandon all reason and be a robot? If you had to chase a bad guy cause he ran a red light and drove off a cliff are you gonna drive off that cliff just to give him his ticket too?

My post literally cannot be more in acknowledgement that I did wrong - also at no point did I say anything about the officer who pulled me over. I'm just more questioning the system around the infraction - and no, I won't just "man up and pay for it"- I'll make them earn my hard earned money thank-you very much.
