Because I'm getting rid of my phone as soon as my Sprint contract is up in Sept! Plus I like to be able to listen to music without having to drain my phone's already woeful battery

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 (they have smaller ones too). I have one, absolutely love it!

Dude cell phones are so 10 years ago. I had Verizon install a 4G LTE hotspot where my wisdom teeth used to be and I make calls through a Bluetooth microphone installed into my jaw.

The best music player is still a cell phone. Use an old one, you can still use it even if it doesnt have service, and playing local music with the screen off uses almost no battery.

That's a great point, I can keep the old GS2 around just to play music on. With the extended battery it would last forever when it's not roaming constantly like it does now with crappy Sprint service.

The only downside I can think of is I haven't found a super high capacity microSD card that has actually worked in it...probably because I've bought the Chinese knockoffs on ebay. Is there a limit to the amount of memory one of those things can hold that will actually work in a device like this?

Each device has a limit it'll recognize. You should be able to find out what yours is via le internets.

Im still rocking the 2nd gen Nano, it plays well with my headunits, never leaves the car. Only 4GB though.

I'm doing the same thing except with my 16gb ipod video. Never leaves the car or even gets unplugged except to bring it inside to update it. Roommate does the same with ipod nano like Justin.

32gb should work fine in the s2. get a samsung or sandisk card and you will be fine. under $30.

and dont forget that you have wifi on the phone so if you have wifi at work you can also stream music.

Nano's are the shit. It's incredibly small, and also is the only IPOD that has radio built into it. I love mined and used it everytime I went for a jog or rode my bike, I just broke it though. It got 2 years of riding trhough heat/rain/cold when I biked everyday to work. And then I leave it in a car for half a year behind the seat and the thing won't start up :/.

Well thats interesting. We just bought about 40 of them here at work, I'm going to go steal one and play with it.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - SlimKlim - 05-09-2013

Do any of you guys happen to have an old android phone you'd sell me for super, super, super cheap?

I'd like one to hardwire into the GTI so I can run the Torque app for boost & oil temp/pressure gauges. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en

The knock off Bluetooth OBD-II dongles are like $25 and the app is only $5, but unfortunately my old OG Droid is completely unusable. It'll boot up but the screen won't recognize your touch, it'll move a little bit and then forget your finger is on it, so you can't even unlock it.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - CaptainHenreh - 05-09-2013

The torque app is pretty freakin' sweeeeeeet.

I bet my buddy craig has a GSII he'd sell you super super cheap.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 05-09-2013

I have my Evo, you'd need to replace the screen though which can be done for $15. I actually did it pretty quickly but like an idiot rushed it and left space for dust to get in. So bottom line, if you're okay with dust in the screen: no need to replace. not okay? 10-15 to replace it. $20?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - SlimKlim - 05-09-2013

Thanks guys. My buddy from bimmerfest has a Droid Incredible he's going to dig up and send me, but if it turns out he lost it I'm down for a $20 Evo with dust in the screen.

Not sure where I'll mount it, probably just in front of the shifter cause the cig lighter is right there and I don't feel like ripping the dashboard apart. Its a little far to look but its mostly just for shits and gigs anyway.

I was scrolling through the free version of the App on Jake's work android phone, its insane how many parameters you can measure with it. They even have skins to match the VW gauges.

Why not buy a cheap multipurpose windshield mount?
