Project RS, now with 30% less trunk

hit in traffic....again.....thankfully my son wasn't riding with me. kid in a jeep commander, dropped his muffin, looked down, looked back up and bang. his bumper came in about ~4" over my bumper beam so the hollow sheetmetal just collapsed. unibody is borked at the trunk opening, but not the floor, so i have no idea if its even fixable or not.

its worth maybe $3.5k on a good day. i think i might be saying goodbye.

Sad

Re: Project RS - .RJ - 08-15-2017

Buy it back and turn it into a RALLY MONSTER

Re: Project RS - Beej - 08-15-2017

Just checked the date of the first post. So close to 10 years.

Sorry about that man, but glad you're alright. Any thoughts on what's next?

Re: Project RS - Senor_Taylor - 08-15-2017

Oh wow man, I can't believe it. I'm legitimately sad for you. Glad you're okay and the kiddo wasn't there. Is it realistic to consider this thing becoming a really cool rally car? Hopefully you can come out ahead here.

so much want, but i need something that's a street car first. i'll never stage rally but i need something that can rallyx. all my time, energy, and garage space is in the teardrop camper right now.

stuck in insurance claim quagmire BS, no idea what will happen. if its time for a new car, i'll be sure to create a bloated, generally messy Help Me Buy A Car thread and probably ignore all the advice

whoa, almost exactly 10. crazy.

i'm no expert, but i'm fairly sure that trunk seal is supposed to go straight down the photo, not bend inward to the right. you can see the sheetmetal separating at a seam just above the taillight too. no bueno.

Re: Project RS - JPolen01 - 08-15-2017

Ouch. Glad you're okay! For some reason I thought this car was WRB though.

Re: Project RS - *insertusernamehere* - 08-15-2017

Aw noooo Sad

Thankfully it wasn't worse and you're alright. My biggest fear is being rear ended, nothing you can do but hold on. Does Subaru give you discounts on subaru since you're an ambassador haha?

yeah - I can actually give anyone a discount on a new one. something like $500.

i don't want a car payment though....don't want to jump the gun but i'm looking at options right now for something used and fun with a back seat

Re: Project RS - ispoonwithmugen - 08-15-2017

Re: Project RS - WRXtranceformed - 08-15-2017

Bro! Dang! Totalled out??

Glad you are okay. Super sad with the heart and time you had in it but new car shopping is fun. We're good at helping you spend your money Smile

Re: Project RS - Goodspeed - 08-16-2017

Noooooo Sad. Sorry Scott, I always enjoyed reading up on your adventures with this thing. My favorite bodystyle, I'll put my hat in the ring for getting another, this time with a turbah

Re: Project RS - ScottyB - 08-16-2017

appreciate the thoughts guys. my wife almost cried. my neighbor came over last night and we pounded icehouses in the garage like classless savages to console me whilst scheming up a lot of hazy, stupid plans for the next step.

as i suspected, in terms of resale its worth nothing so paint alone would run over the value of the car. i had a bad gut feeling it was a done deal after popping the trunklid and seeing the trunk unibody pushed in after the wreck. i didn't want to see it go this way. it was supposed to be handed down or sold to a person that understood it and would do something cool with it. i have almost a square acre of documentation and paperwork of every service receipt and modification it saw...doesn't mean a thing now. i'd like to think it saw a better life than it deserved though, for an otherwise forgotten base model economy car.

Re: Project RS - WRXtranceformed - 08-16-2017

So when are we going STI shopping? You still have muddin' tires right?

Re: Project RS - ispoonwithmugen - 08-16-2017

Please refer to post above with the 66k mile 2004 Sti for sale. It looks mint and needs all ze mud

Re: Project RS - ScottyB - 08-16-2017

not sure i'm going back to subaru. if i do another, its either going to have ALL the proper STi parts on it (6 speed DCCD, hubs/brakes, etc) or be a brand new car. those things still command a stupid amount of money and the swapped ones are impossible to gauge if you don't know the owner. they don't suffer abusive owners well, and there are enough mechanical quirks that its hard to figure out if the car is being dumped because something's up.

i've also done AWD cars for close to 15 years now. i've never owned a RWD car, or a hot hatch. i'm not "old" yet but a new experience would be cool at this point.

i don't know. wasn't prepared for any of this and now i've gotta decide kinda quickly. uuuugggghhh

Re: Project RS - ispoonwithmugen - 08-16-2017

BMW M3... I saw that grin when you drove mine!

Re: Project RS - Apoc - 08-16-2017

Clearly you need to buy a GTI and gun safe with your winnings.
