At 8:40 p.m., JMU Police received conflicting reports of an individual with a gun in Potomac Hall. Officers immediately responded and after a thorough investigation by campus police, a toy Airsoft gun was recovered. Subject has been identified as a student and JMU police are in possession of the orange-tipped toy gun. The matter has been resolved and there is no threat to the campus.

You would be surprised how poor many police officers are in tactical situations (outside of SWAT), and even more surprised to know how few have ever actually fired their weapons outside of qualifying / training. I have several CMPD officer friends who serve security with me at church and they comment about it all of the time. I go to the range occasionally with one of the ones I am closest with and he is a great shot and very competent with his firearms because he is a "gun guy"...but he admits he is few and far between on the force.
