Precious metal as an investment option always hit me as really weird. it seemed like a potentially good idea in 2008 but it seems to go inverse with the confidence in the market. i prefer to invest in etfs or mutual funds or a very wide commodities fund to reduce volatility in one market. i only hold like 6 individual company stocks and those were just for shits and giggles

I own etfs and mutual funds and a handful of other financial products. Precious metals are just another way to diversify and hedge against inflation ... and let's be honest it's more fun to sift your fingers through a stack of gold coins than it is to log into a web portal to see your money.

Some people also do it out of fear of market collapse. You could probably invest in ammo too, at this point.

news reports show ford is getting hammered on lack of frames to supply 2015 F150 production....something like a 10% deficit in operating profit due to this.
might be a great time to grab some F stock if its sliding because once production gets sorted they'll do fine.

It's pretty fascinating how the local industrial economy (or lack thereof) can have a ripple effect on earnings, jobs and tax revenue in any given state. Also interesting is that we are starting to have private investment firms come to us for labor market and economic data to plug into their modeling for what industries and specific companies they should invest in. Obviously being able to get a legal edge to "predict" the rise and fall of companies without breaking insider trading rules is pretty important to them.

If any of you follow the Benjamin Graham value-style of investing, seems like a great time to buy some stock right now. I save up for market dips like this because I can get good stock and discounted prices. I'm mostly a tech investor and most prices are inflated beyond value but this makes it a little more manageable!

Anyone considering an oil ETF or other funds around oil? Might be a good time to buy some oil stock cheap after this iran deal went through.... It should bump right back up in a few years at quite a tidy profit.

I considered it deeply. However, I just am not quite sure how oil is going to get shaken up. Economies haven't recovered (and some show signs of stumbling), China is slowing down growth (but will still need tons of oil), OPEC has been relegated to non-controlling interest so they are just producing to stay relevant, and American Oil Industry has already cracked the "making it cheaper to pull oil from America" nut in R&D.
It's the stock market, some south american dictator will inevitably decide to slaughter 1/2 his population and prices will spike. :?

Either that or pick an oil heavy stock that's diversifying itself into renewables... BP is the first that comes to mind but I've done literally 0 analysis of the stock.
