Car ran strong due to the nice temperatures (50s-60s). Tires felt great. Car felt great. I feel like I've gained a few seconds on time since my last time at Summit or maybe it was just a placebo. I can't complain about the car yet. Hoping the car continues strong. Even with some over revs this weekend temps looked fine on the engine coolant. Not sure what else to say with the car part as everything went well. I feel like I have gotten faster since the last time I was there and was having a blast. Had some people coming up to me in group 2 and say they were impressed with the car. Had a long talk with Matt Huffman (TTE Integra) who was talking to me about TTE and that he is looking forward to good competition if I go TTE. All this helped with stroking the ego  and gave me some more confidence to push the car during the weekend. Many derp moments to go around. Got some videos I need to edit with not a lot of time. So I'll be doing my best to show some footage ASAP. Some of my derp moments include hitting the inside curbing in 10 and spinning in 3. In turn 10 I decided to hit the inside curbing on accident. My rear tire lost grip swinging out my rear end. Basically left my foot matted to the floor, held a countersteer, snapped my wheel straight once my rear started coming around as I got close to the exit gators. Next, in the middle of 2 and 3 I'm looking at the corner ahead I see dirt and grass coming from the inside corner. I then see the yellow flag come out. I check my mirrors (see a GT3 exiting 2, luckily) and slow down to about 60-70 as I see everything is clear on the turn. Turn into 3 and start to apply light throttle and car breaks loose. I try my best to hold a countersteer. I think I caught it off track left like the car before or I suck at driving or a bump (I still need to watch the video). Whatever the case the rear starts coming around and I just put both feet in and slide across track backwards and stop off track right in gravel on top of 3. So, I pit in and little did I know one subbie blew a coolant line off the turbo and dropped coolant on turn 3. 3 people in front of me almost spun as well they said. Felton didn't even come talk to m, car was checked, and I was on my way. back out being careful in 3 (steering was loose through 3 for about 3ish laps and went away). Guy who dropped the coolant came to talk to me. Very nice and respectable guy. Things to do over winter are safety. Bolt in roll bar, seats, harnesses, and a hans. Then a check ride for DE3 next season. I feel like I can I'm ready for 3 to be honest. Yes, I'm a bit nervous going to 3 but I was the same way entering 2. We shall see. Pads are at 1/2 or so done after 4 DE weekend and DD duty they are holding up well. I'm still able to brake in 3 to 3.5 area so I'm not to worried about getting brakes anytime soon. Video of my two derps: Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 11-10-2015 I present to you a quick hot laps video of my faster laps progressing from slowest fast to fastest fast. Looks to me I'm around high 1:29s to low 1:30s at the end for my fastest times? Which if that's right means I'm really moving for my current setup and driving experience, imo... obviously there is still time to be gained on my current setup. The fully maxed and dyno reclassed TTE Integra is only running low 1:27s to high 1:26s at Summit. Saturday June Times @ Summit: http://tinyurl.com/qgy7vmz Sunday June Times @ Summit: http://tinyurl.com/phf7fvb I think this car will be very easily competitive in TTE. I still have 10 points to play with on my current setup along with dropping weight. I know I can lose at least an extra second or more on my current setup by learning the line better and more consistent on braking/line. Also, be more willing to push the car once I throw in safety gear over winter. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-11-2015 rherold9 Wrote:Finally got the video of my derps. Exactly what you want to do. 2nd one you can see how your arms got crossed up because you were just a *tad* too late on the correction and you were "catching up" to the slide. Great awareness. On both of them, you needed to use the throttle to pull yourself out of the slides. I know it sounds counter intuitive but GET on the throttle when it starts going sideways in a FWD. You did a freaking awesome job though, the first one your correction was great  I have seen some pretty crazy nasty slides by FWD that would never be recoverable in a rwd, be recoverable in a FWD. One of my favorites was at 2012 NASA Nationals a Honda Challenge 2 blue civic si went about 90 degrees sideways, dumped the clutch and did a burnout of the front wheels while sliding at 50mph and straightened the car back out. If I hadnt seen it, I wouldnt have thought it was recoverable  Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 11-11-2015 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Great catch on the 1st one. Smooth, slow and deliberate. Exactly what you want to do. Yeah the first one I knew was coming so I was able to react easier. The next one I did not expect and threw me off guard so I done fucked up. If I would have mash throttle right before crossing arms I would have saved it (maybe) staying halfway on track and half on grass. I just did not know it was going to slide that quickly because I did not know it was wet on track there. But damn was the cars rear so slick it would not react worth shit... Note to self look for liquids on track as well as being aware of everything else. I hate seeing these videos at the same time is good to learn on. Another reason to get safety shit over winter done because you never know what can happen that is out of your control (mostly). Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-11-2015 ^^^ Yup, always *maybe* you could have saved it. I think you did a bang up job though. Glad to see the mistakes though, it means you are pushing, which in my mind is a good thing. Glad to see the mistakes though, it means you are pushing, which in my mind is a good thing. Thank you. With more experience I'll get better at saving. For now it will be mostly luck. FWD is a lot easier to correct so it makes a noob driver like me look better at saving than I am  . I'm used to applying throttle and countersteer to save stuff but for some reason it just didn't register lol :dunno: . Also, when I get safety gear for next season it would be nice if you could show me the ways of the mystical DJ. Definitely want to take a second or two off my current times and get a more solid line down. I know it is hard to see my line in the faster laps video above but let me know what you think when you get time. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-13-2015 rherold9 Wrote:JustinG Wrote:Get DJ to ride with you and give you pointers. It really all depends on the driver. Most of the time in autox, people are a bunch of pussies; so yes, I yell GAS GAS GAS GAS. This past weekend, I actually never used it until the last session of the weekend on a student I had; because that's not what they needed. And for a lot of my track students I don't use it till they have the correct lines. But yeah, 99% of you fuckers can do threshold braking; its not hard when you have ABS. However, the difference between braking at the 3 maker and the 4 maker only makes you gain .1 seconds. Getting on the gas .1 seconds earlier however lowers your lap time by 1-2 seconds by the end of that straightaway. So yeah..I focus more on the gas (and more about getting on it sooner than actually the full application of it) |
