Is this true? Can someone try this when it gets cold?

Ducks don't understand how cruise control works.

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - Jeff - 10-29-2013

It used to be true. Modern cruise control will cancel when it sees the RPM ramp up and huge difference in wheel speed between the wheels. Still might be enough to cause you a badness though. I had it happen in my old 97 Ram once.

Re: It's Friday and I'm bored - Tyler.M - 10-29-2013

I didn't even know the cold cruise control thing was a thing. Wish I learned this awhile ago

Like jeff said, it's really only applicable to older cars. Anything with an electronic throttle, this doesn't really apply. Anything with traction control, doesn't really apply. Even most modern cars without those two things, it ain't like cruise control goes full fuckin' throttle the second you drop to 59.999mph...

Yes, in poor weather conditions you probably ought not use cruise control, but that's got very little to do with your cruise control going apeshit and everything to do with "in adverse conditions, you should be in control of your car."

The original thread that was from had a comment from a tow truck driver saying that 3/4 of the people he pulled out of ditches were using cruise control at the time of crash. Don't know if he was exaggerating but I wouldn't be surprised if there were people out there using cruise control in snow storms and such.

The whole thing surprised me because it wouldn't even cross my mind to use cruise control in bad weather.

So you can turn on your mic and flirt with the strippers in GTA V. If you flirt enough, they'll offer to take you home. You can also do this in multiplayer, but when you do, other people can hear you...

I feel like we had this discussion on the forum before, but I guess not. Assuming the wheel speed sensor is on the drive wheels (every car I know of, but I'm sure someone can cite an exception), even the crudest vacuum operated cruise control system is, at worst, going to keep the drive wheels spinning at the same speed as they were going before traction was lost. Now THAT can be bad enough, in that a poor driver (at least 75% of our population IMHO, oddly enough the same 3/4 quoted that are in a ditch) isn't going to realize he's hydroplaning, car gets a little sideways, and the drive wheels are still going 65 MPH. They hook up the wrong way and sure, that's a problem. Just like it would be if your foot was still half on the throttle, but no worse. The cruise control system isn't going to spin the wheels faster than the set speed, otherwise that wouldn't be much of a cruise control system.
The only "cruise control" that would do that would be a throttle lock on a motorcycle. Or a brick on your gas pedal. Might keep you at a constant speed as long as traction was maintained and you're on a flat surface, but anything else leads to speed changes.
I use my cruise control ALL THE TIME. If I'm going to be going any constant speed over 25MPH for even 20 sec, I set it. Wind, snow, rain or ice. :dunno:
The duck is wrong on this one.

Now flirting with strippers in GTA V, that's funny. Funny sad.

Thinking about this more, maybe what people experienced is that the wheels were spinning but the car wasn't proceeding forward at the anticipated rate which gave the impression that the engine was speeding up. With a cursory

From a cursory search, it seems like the prevailing wisdom in slippery conditions is to not use cruise control. But that may be due to the fact that in a slide one would either have to tap the brakes or hit 'cancel' to get cruise control to disengage. If someone is experiencing throttle-on oversteer, it is unlikely that their first instinct is to immediately cancel cruise control then gently adjust the throttle while countersteering. Most people would just hit the brakes and that'd be game over. Probably wouldn't apply to newer cars with traction control.

So duck advice may be correct, but reason for advice wrong. For fun though, I'd love to get a big 80's rwd car and drive through a snowstorm with cruise control on. Actually, maybe it'd be fun for someone else to try that experiment.

Supposedly there's a way to get into a strip club with a gun. Can't wait to see a video of some dude flirting with a stripper during a lap dance, then getting shot in the face.

I'll jump on sometime this week and accept you. No one ever said anything about it so I didn't think anyone actually wanted to join.

Yeah wtf, I tried to join too  Gang punishment is in order, 30 seconds of gang beatdown on Jon!

I really do need to play with some people, it's hard to get people together on missions and racing can kinda get frustrating when every time you try to pass or are getting pass, people run you off the fucking road.

Just accepted you two and Joey.

If anyone has seen pictures or followed the Engineered to Slide project, here is the final product. This was a phenomenal build of a Hilux that I have followed for quite some time. The craftsmanship is simply amazing. Speedhunters has a great article on it: http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/10/the ... ide-hilux/
